Way back in the olden times of November 2012, Australian band Milk Teddy released Zingers a ramshackle guitar pop album that owes as much to the, um, ramshackle guitar pop scene in New Zealand as it does to The Feelies and the sort of mindboggling, hey-check-out-what-I-made-befo re-you-even-got-up-this-mornin g vibe that so many bands hope to reach but rarely do. Basically, Zingers is an album for moping around your house. It feels designed to be re-discovered (or, if you’re like me and “late” to the party, just discover it for the first time). Do you ever have a day [...]

Before you get all tripped up over This Town Needs Guns' cryptic album title, 13.0.0.0.0, allow us to drop you a hint: the Mayans. Or, more specifically, the Mayan calendar's Long Count. And while the album's title signifies the beginning and end of creation, we have made it safely to 2013, so we're free to concentrate instead on the 12 tracks the effort is comprised of. For their sophomore album, the UK indie pop outfit have blurred the lines between creativity and technicality, melody and experimentation, showcasing an effort that's as much a musical journey as [...]

"We've wanted to re-release this album for some time," says ADULT.'s Adam Lee Miller, "but we weren't ready until now. We have some new material in the pipeline, and we thought this would be a nice way to reintroduce ourselves." It is indeed a nice way for the hugely respected Detroit duo to herald their return to the world of music, especially for anyone who missed out on Resuscitation the first time around — the album's never been available digitally, and the CD version has been out of print for some years now. The reissue thus presents [...]

Set for release on January 22nd from Canvasback Music and Atlantic Records, you can hear Wolf's Law in all its fuzz-bombed glory. First single and opener "This Ladder Is Ours" offers a taste of the hard rocking heights to come as the Joy Formidable push their earworm riffs into heavier territory on the punishing "Bats" and quick [...]

Hilly Eye is the collaboration of guitarist and vocalist Amy Klein and drummer and vocalist Catherine Tung. The two have been working together since 2009, and began as an effort between Klein (formerly of Titus Andronicus) and Tung to create something noisey and primitive while maintaining elements of psychedelia. Hilly Eye’s forthcoming album Reasons to Live embodies exactly that, from the droning guitars to the aggressive vocals. It’s an effort that makes use of soft sounds as well as violent, loud ones. The album will be released on Jan. 22 via Don Giovanni, but [...]

Zombie Nation is the German techno and electro project of Munich based DJ and producer Florian Senfter. Part of the reason for the label Turbo's resurgence has been the way the label can coax unexpected performances from established producers. Take Zombie Nation: responsible for more than his fair share of massive tracks, the German beatsmith continues to impress. Those main room anthems are still in place, but the machinery, the engine work under the bonnet has been radically altered. Read more »
