Well, after much thought and consideration, I have decided to stop updating Looking at Them indefinitely. However, this does not mean the Internets are rid of me. For those of you who enjoy my Soundtrack Saturday feature, you can now find it at Popdose . I am also contributing more general ramblings about music to Ickmusic . I'm really excited to have the opportunity to write for these sites and I hope you will check them out, if you haven't already. I would still love to hear from musicians who are eager to get their music [...]
Hey everyone! I know it's been almost six months since I last posted. I'm sure 3 of you probably wondered what happened. Most of you probably didn't notice. But, anyway, I thought I'd let everyone know that I'm not in witness protection or anything. I've actually been pondering the future of this blog (yet again) and I'm leaning towards shutting it down. I haven't been very inspired to keep it up this year. Also, I just don't know how much the Internets need another music blog. I'm still considering what to do, and once I have a decision, I'll let [...]
All the 2008 election hubbub has gotten me in the mood to re-watch every episode of one of my favorite television shows of all time, The West Wing . Since I can't afford the complete series boxed set , I added all seven seasons to my Netflix queue and managed to get through the entire first season this past weekend (I know you're jealous of my glamourous lifestyle). One of my favorite moments from any season of this brilliant show comes from episode 118 from the first season, "Six Meetings [...]
Hey guys! It’s been almost two months since I showed my raggedy ass around this place. You’re used to that, though, right? To be completely honest, I’m seriously considering putting this blog out of its misery. I just haven’t had the time, or the inspiration, to update. I’m still going to think about this, so you’re not rid of me just yet. Before I decide whether or not to jump ship, I figured I’d do my favorites of 2007 list. I don’t really go in for [...]

I saw my only show of Tori Amos 's current America n Doll Posse tour last night in Indianapolis at the Murat Theatre (one of my favorite venues). This is the first time since 1996 that I'll only be seeing one show. It just isn't in my budget, financially or time-wise, to see as many shows as I normally do, and I'm fine with that. As much as I love travelling to see shows, for Tori or anyone else, it's just not been as feasible for me as it [...]

Okay, so, I lied. Regular posting hasn't resumed. Work has lit erally been a circus and I am just now figuring out how to exit the clown car. Being so stressed out has sucked all the creative energy out of me, so I just haven't been up to posting. But, it's getting better, so I'll probably start posting at least a couple of times a week, though it may only be on the weekends for now. I am sorry to report that I'm ditching Prince Wednesdays. I don't want Mr. Nelson coming after me in his pursuit to [...]

Sorry I've been MIA the last week or so. I had hoped to post a glorious entry on Saturday about the amazing time I had seeing my buddies, Oh My God , play at the Gypsy Hut in Cincinnati Friday night. Unfortunately, the guys were involved in a very serious car accident on their way here and the rest of their tour has been cancelled. Everyone is alive, but they were all seriously injured and have some major recuperation ahead of them. I consider them to be good friends and it tears me up to think of them having [...]

So, it looks like Prince wants to start suing a lot of people . Again. Whether or not he will "reclaim the 'net" remains to be seen. My guess is he will alienate a lot of his fans, which is territory he's not unfamiliar with. That aside, today's Prince Day post is one that requires audience participation. With the recent 21 Nights in London tour generating some genuinely fantastic shows (not that I got to see any), I've been thinking about what my dream Prince set list would be. I've thought about this before, but [...]

Regular readers of this blog know that Wednesday is Prince Day. I mean, what better way to get you through the rest of the week than a little bit from Mr. Nelson? Mondays can be pretty rough, so I'm starting a new Monday feature to help make sure the week starts off right. Each Monday, for a while, at least, I'm going to be featuring a different artist or group that worked with Prince in some fashion. Expect to see side projects, artists produced by Prince and the like. Should be good times. [...]

You're engaged to be married to a wealthy cosmetic heiress. You are "kidnapped" from your engagement party by three of your friends to attend the wild bachelor party they have concocted at your apartment. You awake from a party-induced sleep to find a beautiful, injured angel in your swimming pool. What do you do? If you're Jim Sanders, the character played by Michael E. Knight (best known as Tad Martin on All My Children ) in the 80s comedy, Date with an [...]

"Anotherloverholenyohead" is becoming my favorite track from the 1986 Prince & The Revolution album Parade . The more I listen to it, the more I love it. I dare you to listen to this song and not immediately start shaking your ass. This was the third single from Parade , and it didn't do well, peaking at number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The extended version of the song was [...]

Desperately Seeking Susan created quite a stir when it was released because it was the film debut of a hot new pop star by the name of Madonna . For someone whose film career has been hit-or-miss ever since, this is quite a good performance by Madge. Of course, her character, Susan, isn't very far off from herself in those days, so the role really wasn't much of a stretch. The film follows bored New Jersey housewife, Roberta ( Rosanna Arquette ), who keeps [...]

This classic John Hughes flick was a staple in my household when I was a kid. Any time it was on cable, my brother and I would eagerly watch it, reciting dialogue right along with the actors. It just never got old. The fantastic and hilarious scenes are numerous. And, no matter how many great movies he does, Bill Paxton will always be Chet. In case you've never seen Weird Science , let me give you a brief synopsis. [...]

So, today is the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana 's death. I was never one that really followed the royals, but I was upset when I learned of her death. I always thought she was an enigmatic, yet sad, figure. She always seemed like someone who would sit with you and have tea and talk, if you were in the right situation. When I was a kid, I used to see pictures of her all the time, or see snippets of her on the news doing something, but I never heard her voice. I always wanted to know what [...]

The first Prince album I ever bought was Diamonds and Pearls . I was in 8th grade and bought the cassette at a Sam Goody during a trip to the mall with some of my friends. It was a memorable purchase for a couple of different reasons. One, all of the people I was with bought stuff like New Kids on The Block and Color Me Badd , so I somehow felt superior to them because I thought I chose better music. And, two, my parents didn't know I [...]

When I was a sophomore in high school, I was obsessed with Frente 's Marvin the Album . It was practically all I listened to for months. Several of my friends were obsessed, too, and when we found out they were doing an in-store at a local record shop, we made plans to ditch school and go. Only, I chickened out and didn't go. And, I wasn't allowed to see them play a show at a local venue that night because it was a school night. Boo. So, I missed out on my only chance to see them [...]

I just spent an extremely fun weekend in Chicago. Although I'm quite exhausted today, the 10 hours in the car and 8 hours total sleep I got were totally worth it. Thanks to all my Chicago buds for showing me such a great time. I'll be back soon. The purpose for my trip, though I ended up doing much more, was to see the Puppini Sisters at Schuba's, which ended up being Martyr's due to a power [...]

I have a big weekend ahead of me, and it all starts tonight at Columbus, Ohio's Lifestyle Communities Pavillion (aka PromoWest). I'm heading up there to catch Rufus Wainwright and I couldn't be more excited. This is actually the first time I'm catching Rufus on his own tour. The other times I've seen him were when he was touring with Ben Folds and Guster . The opening act tonight is The Magic Numbers , an act I haven't been able to see live yet, but have wanted to for quite [...]
