Adventure Galley's video for "Weekend Lovers". Great track, watch the vid.

As I sit here feeling down and dejected from the Capitals round two exit of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, I figured I'd shift the focus to the left coast and LA (by way of Ventura) based Captions and their track "Bearfight". I actually found this track via the awesome Buzzbands.LA , which I check pretty regularly. Writing about this LA band is appropriate for two reasons: one, it's a great track and it fits just right into the Sirens rock niche, and the second is I'm gonna throw my hockey support behind the LA Kings [...]

If you scour the web looking for the lowest of the lo-fi rock jams, this is about as lo-fi as it gets. Slam Donahue is a Brooklyn three piece who specialize in taking expansion and making it...less expansive. Take the catchy "How To Be Cool" for example - if this was the gas pump then this would easily be the lowest and cheapest grade fuel that you could purchase. That's a compliment. "How To Be Cool" sounds like what happens when someone is playing a grainy garage pop anthem for you...except, they are playing it for you through [...]

There's plenty of awesome bands with Ghost in their name. There's also lots of awesome bands with Beach in their name. What happens when you combine the two into Ghost Beach? Apparently some tropical flavored indie rock, if "Miracle" is any indication. This track is summer tinged, spiced and packaged from the lo-fi guitar intros to the 802s pop vocals - it's a combination of synths and guitar that will be instantly memorable. I'm always a sucker for duos...I dunno if it's my own personal nature or just a love for the spontaneous and wild enthusiasm that always [...]
Turn your eyes towards G-Eazy's video for his track "Marilyn (feat. Dominique LeJeune)". Watch as G-Eazy acts like a man, then turns it around and acts like a man. See what I did there?

When I hit play on "Go To Sleep", I think about basement jams. Our favorite bands all begin this way (for the most part) and if they survive, they eventually evolve into polished studio and touring acts that we typically turn on like a letter high fastball in the fat part of the plate. Why do we decide to turn on them? Eventually, they lose their exuberance, the flat out joy of playing. "Go To Sleep" is filled to the brim with that potential and exuberance I love. This track by The Micks seems at once carefully crafted [...]

After a recent divergence, it's time to go back to the wheelhouse and bring you some more golden indie rock. Twinkling guitars wedded with some wild synths abound in "Automocar", the very first track I have ever heard from The Danks. I received their album in my inbox more than two weeks ago, yet I hadn't bothered to check it out. Shame on me. To be honest, I'm not sure why I didn't listen the first time I saw the e-mail. The name of their upcoming album Are You Afraid Of The Danks? is very reminiscent of [...]

I'm not a down tempo musical connoisseur. Not at all. I like my music upbeat in some form or fashion; whether that be in the rhythm, the melody, or the message, it's just my preference. Middle school to high school was an unending and inescapable maze of dark songs, depressing lyrics, and general mopeheaded-ness (editor's note: if that's not a word, it is now). After I got to about 20 years of age, I just couldn't stomach depressing music anymore. What was the point? If I felt bad, it just made me feel worse. Cue musical listening evolution, [...]
Shot somewhere in a room with pictures of a lot of dudes with beards on the walls, The Rest made a video for "Always On My Mind" live style. It's got a backing choir and some creepy ass animals hanging out in the background...I think you might just like it. If so, stay tuned. We'll being having some more The Rest coverage in the near future.

Last night, I watched what had to be the most absolutely gut wrenching loss of the season for the Washington Capitals. Here I am, jazzed (yet nervous), and Joel Ward draws a four minute major penalty with 21 seconds remaining. All the Caps have to do is keep the Rangers out of the net in a 6 vs 4 matchup for 21 seconds (ie: win the faceoff!) and they go back home with a chance to close out the series. Instead, we give up a goal with 6 seconds remaining...then another on the second half of Ward's penalty [...]

A few hours ago the second child in the Sirens household came into the world; this little beauty weighing in at 8 lbs 1 oz and twenty inches in length. He's heavier than my first son, as well as a little shorter. He also has a head full of hair, which will surely make both of his grandfathers jealous. Included is a picture of the youngest Siren, shortly after his emergence into the wide world. I'm pretty sure he was listening to something pretty chill in the womb, because he was hockey goalie calm while they cleaned him [...]

The Neighbourhood was an enigma until recently. No one knew who they were, how many members there were in the band, or why they hated the beach but stood with their toes firmly in the sand. Time has passed, the veil of secrecy has been lifted, and surprisingly (at least to me) the band just dropped a five track EP - I'm Sorry... If The Neighbourhood's music is an apology, then I assure you that Sirens will take up apologizing in every post in order to maximize our reviewing skills. That [...]
Caged Animals released a rather dark video for their surf tinged track "This Summer I'll Make It Up To You". Check out the reaper on skis behind a speed boat!

The Neighbourhood have released two tracks so far in this five month old year. This is also the number of tracks they have released...ever! "Female Robbery" was the first, it was pretty solid - almost like a warmup for the gem that was "Sweater Weather". Even my wife likes "Sweater Weather", and she's a mainstream kind of girl, so you have hit the right chords as (to that point) an unknown artist when she actually asks me to play your song. "Wires" is the newest addition to The Neighbourhood, and will be included on their debut EP [...]
Tom Williams & The Boat's video for "Teenage Blood"... a particularly awesome track .
Reptar has a new video for "Three Shining Suns" off of their just released debut Body Faucet . Give it some eyes and ears.

If you check out the Ttotals (not tee-totals, just "totals") music on their Soundcloud page, you'll see it labeled as "psychedelic" and "outer blues". "Special A" is most definitely psychedelic. The sound is that of a midnight desert landscape, complete with the lonesome vocals and a shimmering, almost pulsing, feel that is only broken up occasionally by some slightly more aggressive guitar work. I'm not sure what "outer blues" is but I'd imagine that the label applies. You can find this Nashville duo via Facebook. MP3: Ttotals - Special A

As I write, I am sitting here waiting for game four of the Capitals vs Rangers in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Caps are my team, obviously - they are the local guys and are on a bit of an improbable run because I (and everyone else) was pretty sure the team imploded in the regular season. Regardless of how they do, my favorite Siren is the sound of a Caps goal at home. What's that got to do with Teen Mom? Well, it's not the reality series - they are a band who is also from [...]
Jhameel, whom you may have recently found via the hook on Hoodie Allen's track "No Faith In Brooklyn" , also has some pretty stellar solo output. Check out the video for "White Lies" - it's a great track and the video showcases some Jhameel dance moves.
