It’s Saturday, so that means it’s once again time for Shorthanded Goals. Shorthanded Goals is an informal mixtape of the best sounds from the past week (or weeks) that I didn’t get a chance to cover. These tracks arrive via the Sirens of Decay inbox from bands/labels/PR folks and readers, as well as from my own exploration on Soundcloud or Bandcamp. They are all great tracks looking for a new home. These are the tracks I end up missing, so you get first dibs. Think of yourself as [...]
Face Off features two tracks, both unknown and unheard by myself. Did I mention these tracks are selected specifically because they encompass genres that I am ignorant of, or generally avoid? Well, there’s that too. Oh, and they are from the Hype Machine charts, so apparently they are fairly popular. Face Off is meant to be a fun interlude in the seriousness of music blogging…if blogging can be called serious, which it cannot. I tackle songs I would never give a second thought, or delve into genres where I’d be better off sticking my [...]

You can't pass up tracks from someone named Mister Lies. It's an impossibility, like the internet not exploding over new Daft Punk material. Just can't happen. I'll be up front. I don't really know where to begin or end with "Magichour". I enjoyed it, I guess that's enough.

This is good stuff. It falls somewhere between seaside lounging and the despair of the Midwest. Very stately, wind down after a hard day kind of music.

Everyone wants more classics Classixx in their catalog, yeah? "Valley Vacation" was released into the inter-wild today, but it's not from Hanging Gardens . Pretty strange. Also pretty awesome. It's not as fetching as the other singles we've seen come through, but it's still great.

Raising hell throughout your Thursday, Disclosure brought back the fire with "When A Fire Starts To Burn". I think I'm the last living soul with a blog to post about it. Since no else is gonna say it, I'm gonna say it. This track is weird as shit. I don't know what the sample/voice is talking about, and I suppose it doesn't matter. I do get some kicks though, particularly when he says something that sounds like "they don't wanna do nothin' with they life". I really have [...]
Watch Generationals run through the city of...I'm not sure what city, but I'm going to assume New Orleans and if I'm wrong you can write me a citation.

Thomas McNeely is from Asheville, NC. Recording out of his own home, he's delivered "Common Year" and a handful of other tracks for our listening pleasure. "Common Year" is poignant, with gorgeous synths underneath acoustic guitar. McNeely's voice is interesting and his lyrics are more so, meandering through personal thoughts and observations with the ease of a young man and the discerning eye of one who has seen too many bad beats. "I threw some words at a wall, but they were words and a wall, [...]

Part relaxing ambience, part sensual burner, "Downtown" takes you through the bright lights to the neons and further, where it's just moonlight streaming through the windows onto the sheets. This is the debut track of Puddel, comprised of Philadelphian Jeremy Lloyd and LA native D.J. Stanfill. Not bad for first timers, right? It's finally warm and bearable outside at night in something other than a winter coat. Enjoy it with "Downtown". Download it for free on Bandcamp .

"Every Minute" continues the ridiculous run of great tracks Lovelife has been on of late. Seriously, one four track EP and the beginnings of another, plus this tour split with The Neighbourhood? Wow. "This is for every lie you told, for every grudge you hold, for every minute that you have wasted..." Basically, a smooth listen for whenever you need that sort of thing. Or maybe you know someone petty and this is your jam.
Red Lights . Revamped and re-energized. Red Lights is a segment where I can quickly run through the tracks remixes and electronic sounds that caught my ear but didn’t quite catch my tongue… Red Lights to make you stop and listen. -
Christopher Paul Stelling released his album False Cities yesterday, and along with it he dropped a video for the awesome "Brick x Brick". Lots and lots of roads. Recognize any of em?

Sometimes it's a sunny day, sometimes it's rainy. Often you never know until the day in question is well underway. "Dark Star" doesn't provide the answer to this question, but it'd sound absolutely superb beneath a star-filled sky. Jaymes Young produced and belts the lyrics on "Dark Star" - quite a feat considering I'm no where near positive which aspect of the track is better. The production is dark and warbling, with thunderous beats that are amplified by Jaymes' silk-laden vocals. You might think you've heard [...]

Another piece of gold just lying in the riverbed, waiting on me to come by (and search Soundcloud) and snatch it. "Daydream" sounds just like it's title...intentionally, I'm sure. This track is very relaxing. It reminds me of the never-ending back roads of home...or about as far from Brooklyn as it gets. This is a full on audio/aural massage.

I floated through all four minutes of this beauty. "Pendulum" is serene and weirdly elegant. It's the type of track as apt to be on a playlist for beach-side relaxation as it would be on repeat during a crisp sunny day in January. Moon Tides will be out August 20th in the US.

It seems I (we) can never get enough of these dreamy beats + falsetto vocals. I'm racking my brain to think of one artist in this style that has popped out in the last year or two that I couldn't listen to repeatedly and failing miserably. The sheer sound of "Please? (Vignette)" is unbelievably engrossing - the way it pulses in your head while Gallant drops those sweet vox is worth a replay or six. A huge thanks to Gold Flake Paint for turning [...]

Finally, to cap off your Monday evening we've got a new track from Luna Is Honey. "6AM" is a romantic blast of upbeat percussion, burnished with fuzz and reminiscence. Luna Is Honey captured the young (or "new") love dynamic perfectly here - the frenetic pace, the questionable decisions, and of course that starstruck gloss that coats your eyes and mind in those early days of courtship. "6 in the morning baby, you are on fire, we've been driving 'round all night on all four flat tires..." [...]

This is a welcome addition to the first sunny day in some time. The Chainsmokers said that they "wanted to create something that really screams 'let me in I want to fucking dance, but I also brought my own beer.'" Success, gentlemen. I think that if we all take a moment and be honest, this was what we wanted to have someone do with "Julian". It's a great track, no lie, but it was begging for someone to put some bounce to it. I [...]

Plot twist? The Neighbourhood releases a new track that dives headfirst into their hip-hop influences. "West Coast" is the most hip-hop influenced track since their initial EP release, and while it might take some adjusting for the unfamiliar it's actually an intriguing step for the band. What if they'd have continued in the "Sweater Weather"/"West Coast" direction instead of "Wires"/"Let It Go"? Food for thought. "If the sun was God I'd be covered in faith, if the ocean was the devil I'd be covered in hate..." [...]
