Let's Go Mets!

Yeah, baby! Opening day! To celebrate, here's video of an old promo for a Mets vs Braves series from 1983 on WOR-TV...dig the disco music bed and the big cut Rusty Staub takes halfway through:

Non-Stop Morrissey & The Smiths For Free All Weekend Long.

All this weekend, Sirius is celebrating the release of the new Morrissey album by programming it''s "First Wave" Channel 22 with nothing but Smiths and Mozza music. I'm a big Sirius fan, and enjoy my receiver in the car, but I really love the fact that I can listen to the zillions of music channels online. Here's a link to a free online trial of SIRIUS'commercial-free music channels that lasts for 3 days, long enough for you to enjoy the Smiths stuff. No credit [...]

Beer Battered Grouper, Ramones History, Biscotti With Martha, Editors & The Big Sleep @ Webster Hall

Beer Battered Grouper, Ramones History, Biscotti With Martha, Editors & The Big Sleep @ Webster Hall The trip was incredible, thanks for asking. When your day's most important question is "Should I go to the beach now, or stay in this giant bed a little longer?", it's a good holiday. This was the view from my lounge chair where I spent the week reading " On The Road With The Ramones ", the book written by longtime Ramones tour manager Monte Melnick...a great read for any fan of the band. Saint Martin is known for it's amazing restaurants and extravagant cuisine, but I'm all about the cheap plate of local food. I [...]

Music To Bikini Watch By.

So I'm leaving on a trip to the Caribbean tomorrow for about a week, and as I type this I'm loading the iPod with some stuff that I think I'll need to make the transition from "scrambled guy from Jersey trying to make it through the cold weather doldrums" to "resting guy in St. Martin on a lounge chair under an umbrella drinking blue-colored cocktails and thinking about ordering a grouper sandwich". Here's what I'm loading for the trip: The Lovely Feathers - Hind Hind Legs [...]

Did I Mention How Psyched I Am To Be Seeing Two Gallants Next Month?

Did I Mention How Psyched I Am To Be Seeing Two Gallants Next Month? One of the CD's that has taken up the most time in my player this year is Two Gallants ' What The Toll Tells . A guitar & drums duo from San Francisco, these guys tell cool stories over bluesy rock (or is it rocky blues?) in a unique way that fends off lazy White Stripes and Black Keys comparisons. They are playing Bowery next month, and I can't wait to hear and feel their sound live. And don't they look like Matthew Sweet and Jeff Foxworthy in the photo [...]

VETO = Danish Rock Goodness

Someone slid me a copy of a CD sampler of Scandinavian bands that played SXSW, and there is a track by a Danish band called VETO on it that will not leave my head. Edgy and new wavey, it kind of sounds like a more-rock/less-disco version of VHS Or Beta...and it sounds great in the car. Their bio on their website is in Danish, so I don't know much about them, but info on the sampler clains they are "the new shooting stars of Danish rock." [...]

Music To Hangover By.

As I recover from last night's fun and rambuncious Pogues show (and it's associated hangover), here are a few tips while I wait for the ibuprofen to do it's thing: Lets Kiss And Make Up features inelligent but fun musical discourse on the good stuff, both new and old. He's hipped me to more than a few good new bands, most notably Eagle*Seagull , and the mp3's he posts have filled a few notable gaps in my music collection. Mars Needs Guitars has been posting a series of [...]
