I'm home, and it's time to make a mess. Speaking of, I was starting to look a little bit crazy, so I went to get a haircut. I was slightly concerned that [...]

It's time to pack it in when you and your dog have matching raincoats. Either that or get used to the 'who's walking who' jokes.

Some scattered reflections from the past 3 weeks. A pretty civilized show schedule, crossed with some pretty hectic travel. The shows were almost incidental to the places we were traveling to, and the things we were experiencing. The rooftop bar at the Swisshotel in Osaka. They took a shot at preparing pizza and hamburgers for homesick westerners. The view was unreal once the sun went down. [...]

Where in the world? I'm a little worn out and confused right now. I feel like I've been beaten with a rubber hose for the last 17 hours. The only thing I'm certain of is the fact that Air New Zealand's business class lounge was serving hot dogs this morning. [...]

Another 20 hours of flying, another James Lee Burke book down the hatch, and I've found myself in Australia. I had a brief layover in Singapore. It was just long enough to have some toast with delicious, delicious kaya butter from toast box (now at the airport), and buy a jar full of candied ginger for the remainder of my flight. [...]

The tale of one intrepid Australian and a black magic marker.

Osaka. Given an afternoon off, a few of us took the train out to Kyoto. It was a bit of a stretch navigating the underground. The Tokyo subway system is a cinch, but Osaka is slightly more confusing, and once you venture out of the city the little bits of English get increasingly less common. We [...]

No one thought it was funny.

A few more days on the Pacific rim..... Rock shows in Nagoya and Tokyo were pretty solid. The crowds tended to be deafeningly silent. Everyone is just so damn polite. Even the coffee cups are pleasant, and rarely have a [...]

What a fantastic, frenetic, crazy place. No matter how many times I come here it feels like I'm seeing it for the first time. Everything is just so flat out foreign that it all seems to have gone sideways. Maybe you need an eye for it, or maybe you just need a keen sense of humor and a camera, but Japan truly is a play place for the immature. I'm not splitting hairs here, but that is, in fact, a cheetah. [...]

It's been a tough learning curve to get my body back in shape for another round of time travel. No sooner was I shot into space than I immediately began to feel like I had the plague. Coughing, sneezing, seeing ghosts. Now I'm holed up in a hotel in Shibuya, nursing my wounds, and trying to convince myself that it's Friday at 8 pm, and that this is a perfectly reasonable time to have dinner and not run screaming naked through a tai chi class because I'm feeling a little bit unhinged at the moment. I don't know what I [...]

Shut up tea, what do you know about anything? My time at home really slipped away, like Foucalt's giant wristwatch. Each downed peg a monument to pleasant, idle homelife. [...]

I leave for Japan tomorrow. I leave behind a good couple months of calm reflection. I'm not even a little bit prepared for the madness that is bound to ensue. Steady.
