Im sure many of you have been watching the Afro Samurai mini-series over the past month (for those of you who haven't, its on 11PM, Thursday on Spike)... Its only 5 episodes and i suggest you watch it on ya tvs or download this cos its fireeeee... Shit-kicking samurai anime action with voices provided by Samuel L Jackson... Anyhow, as fans will know, the RZA produced the score for this cartoon and has left us with a rather tasty soundtrack.. Though not up to RZA standards in my oppinion, its good to hear some fresh Bobby Digi and [...]
i'm just gonna go straight to TIMBALAND & MAGOO who connects to CHAD HUGO & the NEPTUNES on my last post through JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE's first solo release JUSTIFIED. i wasn't big on the magoo guy, but he was listenable enough cuz of timbo's beats, plus, dude sounded like Q-TIP. i remember tip's appearance on NAS' classic debut release ILLMATIC on the song ONE LOVE, which he also produced, where they jacked WHODINI's song of the same name. btw, you history-deprived-youngins, nas also jacked whodini's FRIENDS beat for IF I RULED THE WORLD with LAURYN HILL.. damn! and he took that [...]

ok. anyone ever heard of the NEPTUNES? lol. well, they've done production for damn near everyone in the last several years including my last post's NORE. is there an offical release for all of their production/ remixes of non-hip hop artists like SADE and LENNY KRAVITZ, PRINCE, BSB(!!), etc? someone hook me up if they know anything. ANGIE STONE - STONE HITS: THE VERY BEST OF.. (2005) VANESSA PARADIS - VANESSA PARADIS (1992) [...]

hey hey hey. i'll try to make it a quickie today.. you know, after QUESTIONMARK ASYLUM i stumped myself for a minute on where to go with it. the only other thing i remembered was that they were from dc or md or one of those areas where go-go music was/is the shit. i had to do a quick look-see to learn that DALLAS AUSTIN did a beat for THE ALBUM, so now my options just got wide open.. whew! SALT-N-PEPA - A SALT WITH A DEADLY PEPA 1988 [...]

in a perfect world it would be soooo simple to just brainstorm the artists' connections, and pick a few from that list and throw them up for you. but, alas, the world is not perfect.. i am not the only one doing this, therefore, my choices become more limited cuz i hate to see/have too many repeat-uploads; i don't have all the material i'd like to put up sometimes; i get requests on occasion that i like to fill, so i try to fit that into my agenda; some artists on the list are too obvious/popular; someone or something reminds [...]

peace peace peace. what's up everyone!? happy effin' new year to you & yours!! sorry i've been m.i.a. for a couple of weeks.. i lost a folder of 890+ albums several days ago, and i was hesitant to mess around with that external drive until i was certain there was nothing else i could do to retrieve my files; to make a long story short, i tried all sorts of nonsense, but all i really needed was my older brother to come thru for like 10 minutes to perform some command-prompts, fix some bad sectors, and whatever other [...]

Im off to Byron Bay for two weeks.. Hopefully this awesome documentry keeps you going till i return.. First off, sorry to cut off Scoop's awesome post, check it out if you havent already... Anyhow, i know its been a long time but im back!.. Biff here and im dropping a hot release from the grimey world of Bastard Pop.. I dont remember if i posted the 2005 release... Anyhow, every year Bootie which is some mash-up night clubs in the US release a best-of mashups album every year.. Last years was better in my opinion but there are some undoubtable classics in this release... [...]
i got an email from da homie biff earlier and in the message he said that grand puba was possibly his favorite emcee of all-time...which got me to thinking...who is at the top of my personal list?...maybe not the person i think is the most skilled or has had the best career...but who is my favorite lyricist?...without hesitation the answer was reggie noble aka funk doctor spock aka redman...his upcoming release (red gone wild) has been pushed back to march by def jam so this is a great time to satiate the masses with something else you will [...]
as i mentioned, CUT CHEMIST was in that DEEP CONCENTRATION compilation. he was also originally a part of this los angeles latin-type-band collective: OZOMATLI - OZOMATLI (1998) literally, it means the aztec god of dance, but OZOMATLI felt like so much more, especially when i saw them live. what a great band!! there was a kid in it, an asian (looking?) dude or 2, white dudes, spanish guys.. i don't know how big (in #s) they were, which also included JURASSIC 5's CHALI [...]

i imagine THE COUP's most controversial album would be PARTY MUSIC in which the original artwork depicted BOOTS & PAM blowing up the world trade center; it was slated to be released that same september that the attacks occured. of course it was released a couple of months later with a different picture. too bad for 75 ARK who released that lp. 75 ark also released this weirdo futuristic shit from BEANS, HIGH PRIEST, & M. SAYYID: ANTI-POP CONSORTIUM - TRAGIC EPILOGUE (2000) [...]

i left off last week with that CLASSIC ELEMENTS compilation from washington state.. so, in continuing with the great northwest connect, i present portland, oregon's PETE MISER's 1st solo release: PETE MISER - WHAT IT BE... (1996) pete miser has been living in brooklyn for a long minute now, and has a few albums before and after this particular cd. this half white-half chinese kid had a live band in 92 called 5 FINGERS OF FUNK, and i hear he has a band these [...]
Just wishing you all a very safe and merry holiday season and a happyyyy new year!!.. The only presant i can offer you all is the guarentee that BIFFHOP will be back and running in full swing next year so keep your eyes on this space.. PEACE! Biff, Zion, Alley Al and Scoop..

- - thanks for BROILED SALMON biff reazy.. speaking of cleveland, ohio.. BONE THUGS & HARMNOY come to mind, but i just never got into 'em. who i did get into a lot was fellow statesmen MOOD (cincinatti). i just couldn't help but get into HI-TEK's production. this was his first group before he connected with TALIB KWELI (REFLECTION ETERNAL). MOOD - DOOM (1997) of course this means hi-tek did plenty of work with rawkus and many of the artists involved [...]

so i was out the other day and the latest issue of scratch magazine caught my eye because of the ridiculous quote from "diddy" on the front..."if you're not dr. dre on the boards, you're not f**kin' wit me!"...ahem...uh...right...but this issue also featured a list of the top six mixtapes of the year so i actually opened it once i finished laughing at sean combs...checking to see if i had missed anything from the year the joint at the top of the list caught my eye...take the most consistent performer from the wu and pair him [...]

whew! what a bizzy week.. eff it.. weekend's here, and so are your goodies treats.. i believe i left off with GHOSTFACE last week, so imma start today(night) with something (pre-)WU-related: SPARK 950 & TIMBO KING - UNITED WE SLAM (1994) at this point TIMBO KING was going thru his label woes, even when he released this with producer SPARK 950. i'm not sure what the beatmaker went on to do, but the emcee changed his sound/style up, and sounded even better [...]

Back again. Time to drop a few random cds. Lets start with the final contribution to my OZ Hip hop collection. I havent listened to this much, but from what I've heard I enjoy it. Many people I've talked to even consider this Best album of the year. Funkoars - The Greatest Hit Now, most of you shouldn't be new to the Herd if you've been [...]
i ended last week with BROTHER J's DARK SUN RIDERS, and i believe he's been working with california's FAT JACK for some production for the new X-CLAN album due out very soon. FAT JACK - CATER TO THE DJ disc1 (2002) FAT JACK - CATER TO THE DJ disc2 (2002) this is the usual underground l.a. suspects, plus a gang more going nuts on fat jack's beats. although i'd heard of ACEY, [...]
