Open’er Gdynia Part 1

Open’er Gdynia Part 1 Travelling is so much fun. so long as you either have a shower every day or twice a day or you don't have a shower for such a long time that it doesn't even appeal to you anymore. Trains aren't unsafe. You can sleep in them, eat in them, meet people in them, dodgy or not, smelly or flowery (remember the shower issue). But they're just a means to an end. Getting off a train, especially one where you had no seat reservations and had to suck it up and sprawl as much of yourself as you could [...]

But before I go, here's some of my favourite music to smoke, eat, shower, walk, imagine driving, drink a nice bevvie to, this darkening side of 2006. things that go bang in the middle of the night

I haven't done unsigned goodness in a while, heck, I ain't done nothing much in a while. I've been planning my trip (mainly getting to Chopin's house and what to drink in Poland) not that you care much, but I have to get my passport tomorrow after compromising with the lady at the desk (it was due the 10th of July I think) and leave on Tuesday bright and early, but shit I can't be fully happy until I have that bloody piece of binded plastic and paper between my evil toes (natch!) or fingers. MySpace has been leaving [...]

Yes, Virginia

Yes, Virginia Since it's a bright and breezy summer, I thought I'd make it a bit darker for you today. Not entirely end-of-the-world, because Dear Editor- I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it's so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus? -Virginia O'Hanlon No matter how light the concept, The Dresden Dolls ' latest LP, " Yes, Virginia " reaks of penumbre. Which [...]

Mirah and Cibelle

Mirah and Cibelle Mirah ( K Records ) is the kind of artist I don't want to know anything about except her music. If I were the kind of the person that got headaches, I'd listen to a looping Pollen . A good thing can creep up on you like the understated bass line in this song. It's folky but not limp; like pink sunshine Mirah - Pollen mp3 (You've got pollen on your nose) Mirah - The Sun mp3 Mirah - [...]

hold your masterpiece

hold your masterpiece How was your Sunday? Good? Mine too. Awfully good then plain awful. If you were one of the other <10 people in the cinema, or you've seen this documentary then you've probably done enough research for yourself. If not, prepare to be passionate once more. The DVD's out so you can go down that route, oh and you'll want the soundtrack too. Screaming Masterpiece (2005, Ari Alexander/Ergis Magnússon) People from Iceland are beautiful mongrels - Viking alpha male blood and Irish ethereal [...]

Sorry

for my lack of posting - i had no internet connection for four days and yes that's a lame excuse but it was refreshing. I was constantly thinking about you guys however. I have to run now - remember the festival that starts on the 6th of July in Gdynia? Well me passport expires on the 4th of July in Bucharest, which is where I'll be staying if I don't act quick. I'll update today anywho.

There is a PET that always goes out

Let's say I'm in a good mood today, and a rushy one too so here: Be Your Own PET LP (zip, 37 Mb) Note. Keeping it up for a week, and it's just about the only file I'm willing to take down on popular demand

The Noisettes

The Noisettes I keep stumbling onto bands that are from the UK and that everyone says are the bees knees live. Well live is actually what sells them, so the more bootlegged or scratchy an mp3 the more I delude myself that those blips and blops are live particles. Moving on!

Jamie to the T

Jamie to the T I'm not one that generally listens to a full LP these days - like I can't concentrate on films or books. I'm on an ADD wave Luckily Jamie T has EPs out. That sound like inebriated swee peas. Notoriously hard to come by, almost as soon as they were released they vanished into thin 7-inch air. It's precisely this detail that made me gallop the internets like mad until a nice last.fm jamie fan clued me in. This made my day Jamie T [...]

giddy

i thought poland was about going to church (so my dad tells me) and ridiculously high-priced urban housing. and chopin (whose house i'd have to see anyway). apparently there is more. i might have some ins to go to this partic'lar festival . ladytron, matthew herbert, the streets, sigur ros. "Open'er takes place in Gdynia , a seaside town in the north of Poland on the Baltic Sea cost. With a line-up [...]

blogs, pringles and crack were all made by the Devil

blogs, pringles and crack were all made by the Devil hrsh That's creativity for you. I love the martian pringles. The crack - who knows, I haven't gone down that line - though black is no darker than white. But who dunnit? Who made Christina Aguilera? I don't know how i feel about this. i'm... i'm confused. Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man mp3 (via sintalentos ) shoegaze? for sure. soft radiohead without falsettos (no matter how lovely they are- for real, thom's falsettos make me twinge with delight) and a female singer [...]

Get a drink then watch the lights

Get a drink then watch the lights If you look through my last.fm you'll get no consistency whatsoever, buh heey- this mix by DJ Bully (Romania) i found on feeder beats my weird eclicticism (or whatever), i cannae relate to this particular flow of indie-rock/pop/hip hop. it doesn't really satisfy my tastes except here (TSU Tornadoes) and there (Razorlight) and there's still some fish-like smell hovering over this one as a whole so that's precisely why i had to mention it Download mp3 (bit over 50 Mb) Tracklist after the jump. There goes the neighbourhood

Please excuse me for this news, I'm going to digitally wipe my arse with it. Never heard of SIRA? That's the way Big Copyright and their lackey's want it, and it's bad news for you. Simply put, SIRA fundamentally redefines copyright and fair use in the digital world. It would require all incidental copies of music to be licensed separately from the originating copy. Even copies of songs that are cached in your computer's memory or buffered over a network would need yet another license. Once again, Big Copyright is looking for [...]

Voxtrot and some willy nelly

Voxtrot and some willy nelly Shiny days with dust in the air call for Voxtrot . I forgot they existed for a while but I'll always come back to them when I feel like hopping along on main streets. Their band name is so inspired, it inspires others to write headlines like "Hot To Voxtrot" . Their pop is twee and they are as web 2.0 as a band can be what with the myspace space the blog and the band's flickr page . Way back in December 2005 the buzz about [...]

Partial review of events

Partial review of events I got a call this afternoon from my friend Jojo (no links to her blog/site/whatevs cause she ain't got none, but if she did they'd be bangers not anthems - w00t). Kenichewa, Jojo! Hei nu pot să cred că n-ai venit aseară/I can't believe you didn't come last night was her opening line for me. She came round mine and gave me the skinny on what happened last night at the latest incarnation of Space Club, Eclipse, where as I mentioned in my last post, Andy Smith dropped by to do what he [...]

Disc Jocular

Disc Jocular DJs. I have horrid debates with people on forums whenever I say that I think the cult of the DJ is going-going-gone. It's a normal cycle after all, if we think what sad-arsed geeky creatures with an extensive record collection DJs were in their humble beginnings (not so long ago- about two decades and a half), then suddenly you alter your perception willingly and the DJ is the Rapunzel-like (as in untouchable) dude in the proverbial tower, channeling the changing times - you appreciated the medium and not the instrument that brings you music ( 24-Hour [...]

Mumm-Ra

Mumm-Ra Mumm-Ra - the Freudian slip of band names - it's a joke, you'll know, if you've seen the ThunderCats cartoon series. Band of the week no less, on Lamacq's 6 Music show. At 15, they say, they were the only ones listening to guitar music (!) in their highschool (?!). Good Heavens. Isn't that one of the first types of music you discover in your years of fiercest rebeldom? I liked the fact that they couldn't get enough of pointing out how corny they are: brainstorming tracklistings for future albums [...]

The Cuban Heels and Senses

The Cuban Heels and Senses I'm not sure whether I appreciate shoegaze properly but Senses are right up my alley somehow. Or maybe they're emo. And I know I like ratata from my guitars, songs that justify that anyone can learn how to play guitar, but divine sounds aren't music god's way of repaying just hard work. Bleeding fingers - maybe. On a purely technical note, Paco de Lucìa is the hardcore classical guitarist who doesn't let a bleeding bloody finger get in the way during live performances - he bites the hardened skin off them bastards into submission. [...]
