by Fred Pessaro Mike Judge and Porcell with Judge at Webster Hall last night (via xfaceupx ) Twenty-three years after breaking up, legendary New York hardcore crew Judge took to the stage to a packed house at Webster Hall last night . The show was their second of two dates at the venue (May 18 & 19), both as part of Black & Blue Bowl with support coming from Breakdown on one night and Madball [...]

Portland, OR's Eat Skull were once known for the sort of blown-out punk some called shitgaze but the band have begun turning the levels down to 9.3 and the band's move from Siltbreeze to Woodsist is telling. Eat Skull III , which came out back in February on Woodsist, is on the jangly side with forays into weird synth postpunk, plus melodies and everything. You can stream vaguely tropical "How Do I Know When To Say Goodnight?" as well as the whole album via Spotify, below. [...]

by Andrew Sacher Vancouver's Weed make the kind of sludgy, melodic rock that bands like California X have also been helping to revive lately, and if you liked Cali X's album , or you know, Dinosaur Jr., this band is for you. They've got a few EPs/singles under their belt, including 2012's Gun Control , and their debut album, Deserve , will be out this July via Couple Skate Records. The album's first single, [...]

by Andrew Sacher Ann Arbor, MI four-piece Pity Sex may have ties to the emo scene (they're about to tour with The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die and they're on Run for Cover Records ), but their new album, Feast of Love , which is due out on June 25, is straight up shoegaze/dream pop in the realm of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and it may very well [...]

Photos by Greg Cristman The Feelies @ The Bell House, 5/18/2012 Hoboken legends The Feelies played The Bell House on Saturday (5/18) -- one of two NYC area shows for the band this past weekend -- and the venue's relaxed vibe made for a nice pairing with the band's strummy, post-Velvets sound. The band treated the crowd to a two-set, five encore show, including lots of classics ("Raised Eyebrows," "Higher Ground," "Let's Go") and, as [...]
by Andrew Sacher KIngston, PA punks Title Fight , whose 2012 emotionally charged post-hardcore record, Floral Green , was one of the best of its kind that year, just returned home from a European tour with Whirr and they've now got some upcoming US shows scheduled for the summer. A full tour announcement hasn't come yet, but they were recently announced for LA's FYF Fest . They've got East Coast [...]

by Andrew Sacher Could there have been a more perfect moment for an epic documentary on Giorgio Moroder? The man who, according to the show's very starry (and very generous) presenter Niles Rodgers, invented dance music? On the night that Daft Punk's fourth studio album finally launched, with fitting audacity at the top of the Shard, Radio 2 put out Electric Dreams: The Giorgio Moroder Story, the most enjoyable music documentary I've heard this year. Snippets of recent Daft Punk collaborator Moroder, 73, talking about his life were tacked over [...]

by Bill Pearis Fred Armisen & friends / Stefon & Seth / Kanye & Ben on SNL Even without Kanye 's musical appearance , last night's Ben Afleck hosted Saturday Night Live season finale was especially eventful (and teary) as it was the final show for three long-running star players: Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudekis . Fred got his farewell moment via a [...]

Romanthony, an influential house producer and singer best known for performing the vocals on Daft Punk's single "One More Time," has been reported to have died earlier this month. The artist, born Anthony Moore, reportedly passed away at his home in Austin, Tex. on May 7. As Chicago's 5 Magazine points out, Romanthony's sister Mellony Moore confirmed the passing in a Facebook post on May 9, and friend/collaborators like Boys Noize, MikeQ and Daone Remmidy (better known as Eve Angel) have all taken to social media to confirm the news and express their grief. The cause of death [...]

Kanye on 'SNL' Kanye West has had a busy weekend. On Thursday (5/16), he played a private show at Roseland for Adult Swim where he performed a few new songs. He also, as is his wont, let loose one of his stream-of-conscious rants, this time mostly about celebrity culture. You can watch video of that below. One of the songs Kanye performed at Roseland was new track "New Slaves." A video for that song made its debut on Friday night (5/17), projected at, [...]
