Court Street Pastry makes the best Italian ice in all of Brooklyn. So good, in fact, that I'm guilty of having one almost every day since they started serving for the season. Even little Devin is getting into the action.

There's a new baby store/play area coming to Court Street called Giggles and Green. According to the signs that are up, opening day is June 28 and you can expect both retail (toys, clothes, books) and social (a party space and classes) space.

Electro-funk heavyweights Ladycréme, Jon G, Carrie White[noise] and Giant Pander will bring you some serious body-jackin-jamz this Friday at Deity. If you're lookin' for something to do in Brooklyn, this is your night!

I came across these fantastic mixes over at The Sweet Fix this morning. They're from the DFA Party at Moma back in March. I'm sad now that I missed it. Justin Miller & Jacques Renault Holy Ghost! I'm going to make the bold declaration that the newest pizza parlor in the neighborhood is the neighborhood's second best pizza. South Brooklyn Pizza, attached to PJ Hanley's on Court between Luquer and 4th Place, is firing up a coal oven, and it's a shame the city doesn't let more coal ovens operate (and I'm not sure how this one got the go-ahead), because there is nothing like a coal-fired pizza crust. Though both my dining companion and I felt a bit like we were cheating on Zaytoons, we had a lovely time at the new Olive Vine Cafe on Court Street near Degraw for lunch today. Perhaps the nicest surprise is the backyard. While the plastic tables and chairs are not creating any amazing ambiance, and a few more umbrellas need to be added, any backyard eating addition is a good one in my book. It seems that every day, the news from Burma becomes more and more devastating. Today's New York Times reports that one of the boats carrying some of the first aid to survivors, hit a submerged tree in the river, and sank. The government continues to deny visas and entry to foreign workers and to confiscate the aid that does make it into the country. Lineup for the Yard (Carroll Street on the Gowanus) Sunday parties has been released and it looks to be a super fun summer--and all within walking distance: Sunday Best! takes over The Yard, a leafy waterside lot on the Gowanus Canal for a nice, mid-afternoon barbecue. I promised myself that I wouldn't be one of those moms who posts pictures of her baby on her blog, so consider this a photo of cherry blossoms and a great incentive to run to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens while they are still in full bloom.

Just taking a moment to mourn the neighborhood's best fried chicken, greens and various roasted veggies. Also, I'll miss the burger.

Albert Hofmann, inventor of LSD, passed a few days ago at the age of 102. This intrepid explorer of psychedelic compounds is directly responsible for much personal mental exploration of a few generations. We've been so busy promoting our DJ night, Suspiria , we haven't had much time to make mixes for the podcast. Thankfully Carrie sent me this one our way other day. I've been listening to it ever since. As always, Carrie has pulled together a nice menagerie of tunes. My favorite is the Midnight Juggernauts track "Into the Galaxy" right at the end. Nice touch! Carrie's next appearance at Suspiria is May 25th.
