In case you haven't noticed, rock music is often dominated by men, which means groups fronted by men often get more attention than those fronted by women. We're not really sure what the case is elsewhere, but there is a plethora of amazing female-fronted bands here in NYC/Brooklyn. We here at StereoactiveNYC may just take this for granted because we see and hear them as much as, if not more than those fronted by men. But we're wholeheartedly in favor of anything that draws attention to the sensationally talented women playing music in this city, so we definitely suggest heading [...]

The Secret Life Of Sofia has just released a new and free digital-only EP called Empty Sleeves . These three newly-recorded tracks can be downloaded from the band's website or MySpace page . The songs here manage to sound slightly more stripped down in comparison to the band's 2008 full-length, Seven Summits , yet are still impressively arranged and seem to showcase a band still striving to refine the abilities they've already proven even as they continue to venture down new paths. As we've [...]

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show we helped organize on Saturday. It was a huge success all around. Gold Streets played one of the tightest, most powerful sets we've heard from them in a while, which is saying something - they remain one of the most solid groups we know. And Mancino - unfortunately forced to drastically cut their set down after some technical difficulties with their Rhodes - managed to floor the packed room with four still as-yet unrecorded songs that loaded as many ideas into a tight twenty or [...]

Back when we were first starting to book bands for the Hot Rocks Party , we had Mancino booked to play a date and asked them if there was anyone in particular they'd like to play with. Their suggestion was chopshop . After listening to the band's impressive first demos, we were interested and invited them to join the bill. And after hearing them play live at the show, we were convinced these guys were one extremely talented group of musicians. Eventually, they played a couple more StereoactiveNYC-sponsored events, but then, unfortunately, had to [...]
