I recently gave in and reluctantly purchased a used car after not having one for 4 years. This was an old used car that I bought where the cd player barely worked, but it did have a cassette deck. On a trip to Soundgarden I found their small cassette section and picked up Dustin Wong's "Let It Go" album which I played on repeat for a couple months, it's really great. Besides seeing Wong on a couple occasions in Baltimore (which were also great live performances) this was really the most I had ever been exposed to the [...]
Wilco guitarist Nels Cline has an impressive amount of gear. Yeah double-necked guitar.

Pitchfork gave this album a measley 4.4, but I wouldn;t really expect them to understand that Nada Surf aren't a band that are going to be breaking new ground in music but are probably one of the most consistent indie-pop bands out there. I find their albums to be very infectious and something I can pop in at any time of the day for a good quick listen. You can stream the entire album at Spinner.com .
This isn't really a video at all for "outro", but M83 seems to be the perfect accompaniment to epic nature videos so thought it was fitting and worth posting on (plus it's a beautiful video): Yosemite HD from Project Yosemite on Vimeo .
One of the more underrated albums of last year was the seemingly out-of-nowhere You Are All I See ; the debut from Active Child . The band is basically just Patt Grossi, and if you're into M83 (minus the "epic-ness") you'll probably dig this album (he opened for M83 last November). The second single, "Hanging On", gives a night-drive/end-of-the-night-r omp kind of vibe, which is why it surprised me to find the video standing in as more of a soundtrack to a poetic River Runs Through It. This song doesn't exactly make me think of [...]

Whenever the cold weather sets in and it's dark by 5:30PM I tend to veer towards more singer/songwriter type tunes. So it's kind of perfect that one of the better ones of the past year, Cass McCombs , who put out two (!) albums last year, is coming to town to play the Ottobar this Saturday (1/21). I've seen both of his albums on a lot of Best Of lists...if that means anything to you; either way it should be a good show. Check out his most recent single:

Great new track from Lower Dens recently completed forthcoming album (no release date yet). The track is available for free here .

Excellent new lazy dance track from Tanlines.. I nearly forgot about them and need to go back and listen to the EP they released 2 years ago. Looks like their is a full album coming out this year. Tanlines "Brothers"
Love the crazy keyboards in this song.

One of my favorite albums of last year is Tycho's "Dive" LP, best listened to at sunset or sunrise (or really any part of the day for that matter). The album is just chalked full of washed out electronic yumminess. However, I never really considered what this album would sound like live, or if it even could be pulled off live with REAL INSTRUMENTS. Well, here ya go.

In my opinion, one of the best songs of all time is Leonard Cohen's "Everybody's Talking". If there is ever a stressfull day, it can be quickly cleared up with that song as soon as the opening chords come in. I digress, Leonard Cohen has a new song out as a lead-up to his new album Old Ideas set to be released Jan 31st and I consider this a pretty big deal, especially based on the quality of this track.

Been loving this album Still Life by Kodomo. It's very light ambient electronic music (i.e. great music to work to). This song is especially good. Kodomo "Concept 163

So I got a new car recently and have a free 3-month subscription to Sirius radio, resulting in my immediate discovery of their Studio 54 station, which played this 1979 italo gem during my commute this morning. Certainly a great way to get a friday (and the upcoming weekend) started. Wiki tells me that Claudja was born in Jamaica but relocated to Canada and became "Canada's Disco Queen". Who knew. Check after the jump for more of her chart toppers. Sweet Dynamite (1976) [...]

The Wrens , who've been recording their Meadowlands follow-up (for real this time) for the past couple months (years?), took to facebook to unleash some gems such as "we're finishing up a total of 21 songs" and "91:48 minutes of music (not a misprint)". Great news! Now it seems their question is whether to go M83 style and create a double-album opus, or milk that creative output for 2 different albums. Full post below: Some news on the record – with whether it's good or bad depending on how comfortable your headphones [...]
