Pretty good list just for the fact that it's got things on it that you probably haven't heard yet and covers more than just indie. Be sure to check out: Dominik Eulberg's 'Diorama' which is electronic music made with outdoor sound samples. Julianna Barwick beautiful 'The Magic Place' might actually take you to that..well..magic place. King Creosote & Jon Hopkins' 'Diamond Mine' almost sounds like a cross between dubstep and Scottish folk music. Shiny Metal from Krallice on [...]
A bit old, but still great. NIN: "Cars" with Gary Numan, live from on stage, London 7.15.09 [HD] from Nine Inch Nails on Vimeo .

One of the more underrated movies of the 802s has to be Real Genius . And this song, from the soundtrack, is pure gold. Plus the movie includes val kilmer as a teen, giant lasers, and turning your dorm into an ice rink. Bonus. The Comsat Angels - I'm Falling (MP3) Happy friday. ( thnx qutter )

Woods have a new album out and it is sounding very good so far. They have upped the ante on their take on pyschedelic Neil Young. The album begins with the jangly folk that Woods is known for and starts to get really good halfway through, particularly on track 4 "Out of The Eye". Woods: Sun and Shade by alteredzones
Not just anyone can read those posters.. it takes a lot of training.
This reoccurring series focuses on a bands sphere of influences and what influences those bands might have had in the past...repeat. Kind of a down the rabbit-hole and seeing it where it takes me. This is by no means meant to be complete, just a musical exploration of sorts. Contributions and further input are greatly appreciated to keep the discussion going in the comments. So I was going through my normal music sites checking out new and old finds among the blog world when i tripped onto Shriekback on WavesatNight.com . Old school, [...]
Here's Justice's new buffalo-future-ific video for their single "Civilization", off their upcoming album due out later this year. Pretty sweet, and the parts of the song that i can hear over the annoying sound effects sound pretty good. You can buy the single sans sound effects on itunes.

Pretty excited about this collaboration, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks are set to release Mirror Traffic August 23rd. The album is produced by Beck which will be his second production credit this year, the first being Thurston Moore's Demolished Thoughts , which has been getting great reviews. Malkmus albums are always a treat, even if Real Emotional Trash was a bit indulgent and lengthy at times there were still some really great songs on it (One of which was about our fair city of Baltimore, or at least being in love with a soldier [...]

If you have never heard of Zombi, then really all you need to do is look at this awesome album cover, read the following blurb, and then listen... it's pretty great stuff. Zombi is a two man instrumental group from Pittsburgh, PA. Their sound is heavily indebted to Italian progressive rock group Goblin, who recorded several synth-heavy soundtracks for horror film director Dario Argento (including the international cut of Dawn of the Dead, which was entitled Zombi). Drums, electric bass, and a warehouse full of vintage synthesizers are the building blocks for the duo's complex, evolving [...]

Speaking of Daft Punk, here's a cool mashup of a lot of their discography in a sweet visualization form showing the layering of all of the songs together.
Before Daft Punk and before Phoenix there was a band called Darlin that consisted of Guy-Manuel, Thomas Bangalter and Laurent Brancowitz from Phoenix. None of this music is anything to write home about (actually it is pretty bad), but interesting to listen to these guys' roots.
Back in 2009 we were pretty fond of The Horrors' album P rimary Colours , saying "The album is equally off-putting as it is inviting." We weren't as fond of them live, but it looks like they're ready to release their next album Skying (7/26) and if this single is any indication of how good it'll be, count me in.
Baltimore's own Lower Dens put on a pretty sweet "acoustic" show for La Blogotheque while they were in Austin for SXSW. (via GvB ) Lower Dens | A Take Away Show | Presented By La Blogotheque, NxNE, SxSW and ASTW from La Blogotheque on Vimeo .

Interesting look at the early electronic music pioneers. This doc came out in 2007, so it's still fairly new, and available to watch on youtube in 3 parts. What the Future Sounded Like tells this fascinating story of British electronic music. What The Future Sounded Like mixes experimental visual and sonic techniques with animation and never-seen-since archival footage. A sonic and visual collage, this documentary colors in a lost chapter in music history, uncovering a group of composers and music engineers who harnessed technology and new ideas to re-imagine the boundaries of music and sound.

I can't stop listening to the new Gang Gang Dance. There are many aspects to this album that I usually wouldn't like, overly produced beats , sounds verging on "World Music", and songs that sound like they could be from the soundtrack of Three Kings ... but dammit if this album isn't fun to listen to. I don't even think this song really does the album justice, more something you have to listen to all the way through, but it one of the only ones available to post (re: get the album!) Gang Gang [...]
