No, readers, this is not The Onion . Text: "Yes and no. We have done our part to support the economy by purchasing three assault rifles and a pistol. Our concern that the new administration will limit our gun rights outweighs our desire to limit family spending. We are cutting back on everything else." via MSNBC

You've seen it all, seen it all, but I happened upon this again recently and its wanton absurdity made me smile.

Sam La More Remix of Walking on a Dream. The Beeb do this every year and the acts they tip do tend to go on to success. Last year Adele topped the poll followed by Duffy, The Ting Tings and Glasvegas. See? So, I'm practically vomiting with excitement to learn that Empire Of The Sun have made the longlist for 2009. The band are very popular round these parts and have been for some time since Walking On A Dream appeared in August. Follow up single We Are The [...]

... and totally nails it. 'Run' was rather epic to begin with, but somewhat 'understated epic' as indie bands are wont to do. So along comes Leona and turns it into a belter, but not in a nauseating Whitney overcooked wobbly-throat ballad way. Christmas No. 1 anyone? It's got a killer chord change and is a good proper quiet-to-loud tune after all.

.... What on earth are we going to talk about now? Scanning the UK Independent yesterday, I got a bit teary reading this opinion piece from amazingly-named Baratunde Thurston. He writes: And what a ride this has been. The manner of this campaign is as important as its ultimate outcome. Grassroots organising met peer-to-peer networked technologies, learnedfrom old school campaigning and was remixed through new school art. And it won. We won! Our new president. Our new president, Barack Hussein Obama, truly represents us, America and the world. ... [...]

So, as I have been sitting here forlornly in London City Airport since 6:20 this morning thanks to fog and will continue to do so until 10:40, I may as well take advantage of the free wifi and update le blog. The Ebony & Ivory party last Saturday night was wonderful fun. Lots of strange and glamourous creations falling about eyelash over glitter. Zombies, mummies, and Amy Winehouse and a Sarah Palin - all sorts of frightful things were in attendance. The hostesses on the far left and [...]

I'm obviously overworked and slightly delirious, but I have taken it upon myself to remix that seminal 1982 opus by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. In a bhangra style (but of course... ). Well, to give some context at least before you release the hounds. Every year in London town for the last five years, Sanjay (late of Bangalore) and Robert (late of somewhere very Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil ) host a Hallowe'en party entitled Ebony & Ivory (one is Caucasian, the other is less so - see what they [...]
It was ever thu s has a lot to answer for. His post inspired my pos t and still they come every day to find out something about Titanic only be bombarded with Sufjan Stevens' sexuality, funky house and Obama's tweets. Funny ol' world, innit?* *Practising being a Londoner.

Republican former Secretary of State has endorsed Obama. He says that Obama would be a 'transformational figure' which is what the US needs now. He is particularly eloquent about his concerns at the shift further to the right that the Republican party has made recently and he points out that Sarah Palin is taking it even further. It's easy to caricature Republicans as dumb and greedy, but this man sounds intellectual and reasonable. Of course making a move like this will do him no harm in terms of his own rehabilitation with the public too, but let's not [...]

... on Twitter . Shot of notification email I can't wait to see what he thinks of the sandwich I had!

The speeches delivered at the Alfred E Smith dinner are far more entertaining than the official debates. And they do much to relieve the tension and ugliness of the campaigns of late. McCain is quite funny and is very gracious towards Obama midway. Obama can get a job on television no problem.
Is it safe to say that McCain-Palin are beyond a joke yet? After all, people did say that Bush couldn't be re-elected. Not safe yet? Ok, here's more fuel for the fire (via the very talented and attractive Fred - download his music, peoples!)

Just stare at the dot for the 35 seconds of this video (no, it's not one of those stupid ones where a ghoul jumps out at you) and see if you notice the optical illusion. If not, just watch it again without staring at the dot. Mad.

Martha & Me Irish Web Awards , originally uploaded by Enda P . Ok, so I missed out on a Blog Award earlier this year, but I grabbed an Irish Web Award at the weekend on behalf of our work website . In the pic, is my colleague Martha who maintains the site with me and became known as the Yay Girl on the night, such was her enthusiasm for EVERYONE involved [...]

He's back. And he's beautiful.

"No, I'll just touch his hip up a liiitle bit more... oops.. ok, I'll just make it look the same on the other side... oops... maybe if I use the healing tool, I promise I won't use too mu... oops..." To see really fucked-up Photoshop jobs, try Photoshop Disasters . Minutes of fun!

I've encountered more than my fair share of Catholic priests over the years both personally and professionally (when I used to teach English, I met many trainee missionaries). Sadly, the vast majority of them are afraid to speak openly about either their sexuality (if gay, which many of those I have met are) or their liberalism. Most of the men of the cloth I know will privately confide that they are uncomfortable with the Church's stance on homosexuality, and I have no doubt that in their own private ways, they do nothing to promote the irrational and hateful stance of [...]

If any of our students are reading - and we love you very much and all that - please don't come near me for the next week and a half unless it's mind-crushingly urgent (e.g. Sarah Palin has mistaken you for a moose and has started shooting at you from her helicopter). ktnxbai Speaking of work, our experimental little groovy website is up for Best Third Level Site Award this weekend in the Irish Web Awards . One is rather [...]

After a couple too many refreshing Carlsbergs last Friday afternoon, I went a bit bonkers in HMV and Zavvi in Cork and spent far too much on CDs. Like many music fans who buy shedloads of CDs, I have a code of ethics around downloading. If I'm curious about an artist or track, I'll probably go get it from a torrent site somewhere, but if I really like it, I tend to buy the physical CD too. Yes, I want to reward the artist, but I also want to have it in high-quality audio. So, every now again [...]
