It's gig time and tomorrow night I see the Pets for the fourth time live in concert. The first time was in 1999 in The Point in Dublin (now reborn as the O2 incidentally) avec the Mexican Ex (henceforth known as t'ExMex). It wasn't a sellout and they barely filled half the venue. Oopsies! They were pretty good though. The second time was in London at the Astoria (RIP) for their Release tour. Again with t'ExMex. Amazingly that was my first ever visit to London, where I now live! 'Acoustic' and great atmosphere. [...]

And it's gorgeous video no. 3 from the deranged Empire Of The Sun. As We Are The People (shot in Mexico) gets into the UK Top 20 finally, Australia get the third single. This time the video is shot in Oz and has a lot of Luke doing the usual shape-throwing and being ridiculous. (And as frequent readers will know, this is precisely how Daddy or Chips likes his pop stars). Question: Nick Littlemore doesn't seem to be in the vid much (at all?). He's also not going to be part of [...]

And here (finally) is part one of us in Natal, Brazil. The joys of being flung off a hillside into a lake....

Catchy as fuck. Even if it does sound like ' Jennifer Rush was jammin' with Def Leppard and Mister Mister [sic] in an eighties rock nightmare .' And here's the other 'new Abba song' as sung by the staff of B&B's hotel (yes, really).

They're beginning to call this child abuse saga the Irish Holocaust. After watching this man, you'll begin to see why.

From Boonehams : The idea of "Inappropriate Soundtracks" was inspired by the SomethingAwful forums. Basically, it's taking a scene from a movie, changing its background music to something wildly inappropriate and thus, ruining that scene from the film. Ok then... Fight Club Titanic Awakenings [...]

Last weekend I was a slight muppet and muddled dates. I was supposed to attend my nephew's First Holy Communion back in Galway. I'm sorry that I disappointed my sister and all the effort that she would have gone to to celebrate the occasion, but how on earth could I stand in a church and endorse such nonsense especially when so many of their leaders are people whom one cannot take seriously. On ITV's News At Ten last night, the Most Rev Vincent Nichols, the chap who became the latest Archbishop of Westminster, most senior Catholic [...]

"Oooo! Oooo! Mommy, can we keep it?! Look how cute and androgynous it is!" Living near Shoreditch/Hoxton, I'm feeling quite an affinity with this site. I daresay I may make a conribution at some stage. In the meantime, here's my favourite entry. More at Look At This Fucking Hipster . Indeed. And why not download Shoreditch Trauma , my homage to the young alternatives, while you're here.

2002 PSB: "We hope you like our new direction! Guitars!" Parlophone: "Love it! What do you want as first single?" {Please say Home and Dry} PSB: "Home and Dry" Parl: "Yay! This is why we love you guys; you still have your finger on the pulse. And for the video...?" PSB: " About that.. ." 2006 PSB: "Hi guys! Album time again. This time, we think that..." Parl: "You think nothing. This time we talk, you listen. No rats, no poncy boring youths being [...]

Oh noes! Oh hang on, I forgot that I had lots of music on CD already and that I've illegally downloaded much of the rest. Phew! Some interesting facts: I have spent €270 approx. in the iTunes Store since it launched in Ireland. I have over 100GBs of 'content' (the vast majority is legit) Microsoft are not fooling anyone with this silly, silly logic.

Following up on Astrolabe 's vlog on irritating words , here is author Joseph O'Connor 's thoughts on 'going forward' (with a few sideswipes at 'strategic' and 'issues' along the way). Originally broadcast on RTE Radio 1's Drivetime on 29th April. Funny, no? He does this every week. And he's Sinéad's brother (small country this). My bugbear words and phrases include sophomore to mean 'second', as abused by music journalists: 'Lady GaGa's sophomore effort should [insert machine gun [...]

I'm off work with Swine Flu* so I've been poking around the intertubes to see what lovely tunes are out there . Here are three I did find and I can share them with you, you lucky, lucky things! 1. Mexican Institute of Sound: Sinfonia Agridulce Imagine if the head of EMI Mexico made sample-heavy records in his spare time. Imagine no more, tis true! This track is from his less-sample heavy new album, Soy Sauce , but [...]

I can't say who wrote this or who they wrote it about, but I just had to quote this utter scorch of a quote from an email I got recently. S/he is really annoyed with the recent contents of a blog (not me, thank Christ!) and, boy, does fury bring out eloquence! [Blogger X] has a rare moment of useful insight today in an otherwise hideous blog. Tragically, [he/she] misdirects the analysis and fails to recognise that the blog is a self absorbed, fictionally-slanted interpretation of a reality predicated on constant motion to prevent ever having [...]

Well, look at what you'll soon find in the International Films section of your local HMV (if there are any left). Do Começo ao Fim (From Beginning to End) by Aluisio Abranches is coming to cinemas in Brazil shortly. I'm getting my popcorn now. Less about the movie, which seems a tad telenovela, but more from the shitstorm that will inevitably follow it if it gets into the US and Europe.
