[ The 40 Watt Club put on a special show last week to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Barrie Buck running the club. The 5 sets were short, so rather than my normal pace of 2 shows per week, I'll be posting one set each day this week.] Three other Drive-By Truckers (and Muscle Shoals legend Spooner Oldham ) backed up Patterson to close out the night. Track 1 - Heathens Track 2 - The Opening Act Track [...]

[ The 40 Watt Club put on a special show last week to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Barrie Buck running the club. The 5 sets were short, so rather than my normal pace of 2 shows per week, I'll be posting one set each day this week.] David Barbe and his Quick Hooks haven't played much recently. Here's hoping they'll do another early-evening residency series at the Caledonia in the fall. Track 1 - Silver-White Flash Track 2 - In The Weeds [...]

[ The 40 Watt Club put on a special show last week to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Barrie Buck running the club. The 5 sets were short, so rather than my normal pace of 2 shows per week, I'll be posting one set each day this week.] Jack Logan has made several appearances lately after a couple years away from the stage. William Tonks and John Neff support for this set heavy on songs from Jack's earlier albums. Track 1 - 15 Years In [...]
I've recorded quite a bit of "experimental" music in Athens, and almost none of it has seen the light of day. This piece is the entire set by this group at the " Superfluous Umlaut Family Reunion." Creston Spiers of Harvey Milk, Neil Golden from Lona, and Producto's Frank McDonnell play about 13 minutes of improvised sounds. Track 1 - My Space
I'm going to switch blogging software soon; I hope to do so this weekend. I'm using GoDaddy's "Quick Blog" software, and I can't trick it out with all the neat custom blog stuff everyone else has. Anybody want to recommend a substitute? Please do below.
The Gerbils' Scott Spillane played a brief set at Happy Happy Birthday To Me's Popfest last summer ( this year's schedule looks promising). Scott had some tech problems with guitar and amp, but still turned in an interesting set. FLAC files are located here , as part of the ongoing E6 BT Project . Track 01 Track 02 Track 03 Track 04 Track 05 Track 06

I missed out on the Star Room Boys while they were still together, but I'll settle for three of the five members, performing here as Star Room Boys Trio for a reunion of sorts. Dave Marr, Philip McArdle and John Neff run through a bunch of the SRB's great repertoire (like Cocaine Parties, the best song country radio would never play), along with a couple choice covers (VU, Springsteen). Dave Gerow of Ceiling Fan/The Sunshine Fix/Hayride/etc. sits in on drums for a large part of the set. I've already seeded FLAC files for this one, but [...]
This was the last GOAT show before Don left for Europe for a few months. He's back just in time to play the main stage at Athfest (plus some other shows ). Track 1 - Werewolf Moon Track 2 - Strange Faith Track 3 - Back In The Woods Track 4 - Florida Vacation Track 5 - Dogs Howl Track 6 - Devil Bucket Track 7 [...]

Looking forward to this year's Athfest jogged my memory about this set from last year (and the strange looks from friends as I went off to record a band that "doesn't play instruments"). Here's a track (full MP3 shows are on the horizon, I'm investigating hosting options): Track 8 - Silent Film Stars Track 9 - Boys Don't Cry (I can run a BitTorrent of the FLAC files if there's interest, comment if so)
Here's a video clip of "I Was Never Young" from Of Montreal's 3rd stop through Atlanta on the "Sunlandic Twins" tour.
On a break from Of Montreal's never-ending tour, Bryan Poole played a brief set with his own group, opening for 63 Crayons . Thanks to B.P.'s allowing the Internet Archive to host recordings of his shows, and the Archive's unlimited free bandwidth, this one's a complete show. Track 1 - Raisa Raisa Track 2 - Reminder To Self Track 3 - I Tried To Make It With You Track 4 - Cuban Sunrise (The Lost Side [...]
Gearing up for the release of their third album, Southern Bitch worked some new stuff into their set on this PBR-sponsored night with Lake City and The Dexateens . Lead singer Adam Musick has a solo project in the works as well. You can find their discs at Athensmusic.net , along with everything else you'll need. The whole set is available in lossless FLAC files at digitalpanic.org . The Day Jobs has instructions if you're new to BitTorrent . [...]
OK, I have a lot of live recordings of Athens bands that deserve to be heard. More on all that later. As a preview while I get this thing set up properly, here's Dan Nettles' jazz outfit Kenosha Kid doing an arrangement of REM's "Camera" at Flicker Bar, 3/30/06. Kenosha Kid - "Camera"
This one was already posted at The Day Jobs , but Phosphorescent is high on my list of favorites, so I'll be featuring him/them often. Matthew brought along Erin Roberts from Porlolo , here's a video of the last song of the evening.
Great set by Producto Saturday night, they seem to get better each time. This was bassist Andy Baker's last show with the band, Craig McQuiston from The Tom Collins will pick up the bass for 'em now. Here's the first two songs of the night: Track 1 - Run Track 2 - Buildings

WARM released Liz Durrett's second album "The Mezzanine" earlier this year. Here's a pair of tunes off the new one, from The EARL in Atlanta. Knives At The Wall Cup On The Counter
