I've recorded quite a bit of "experimental" music in Athens, and almost none of it has seen the light of day. This piece is the entire set by this group at the " Superfluous Umlaut Family Reunion." Creston Spiers of Harvey Milk, Neil Golden from Lona, and Producto's Frank McDonnell play about 13 minutes of improvised sounds. Track 1 - My Space

The Gerbils' Scott Spillane played a brief set at Happy Happy Birthday To Me's Popfest last summer ( this year's schedule looks promising). I missed out on the Star Room Boys while they were still together, but I'll settle for three of the five members, performing here as Star Room Boys Trio for a reunion of sorts. Dave Marr, Philip McArdle and John Neff run through a bunch of the SRB's great repertoire (like Cocaine Parties, the best song country radio would never play), along with a couple choice covers (VU, Springsteen). This was the last GOAT show before Don left for Europe for a few months. He's back just in time to play the main stage at Athfest (plus some other shows ). Looking forward to this year's Athfest jogged my memory about this set from last year (and the strange looks from friends as I went off to record a band that "doesn't play instruments").
