Hi. I know, I know...it's been a while. 3 things today: 1. Jazz ...It's what I do from 7- 9 Am every morning, and it doesn't get much better than Yusef Lateef. Prestige has recently remastered his classic (and hard to find up until now) Eastern Sounds album. Here's the first cut: Yusef Lateef_The Plum Blossom pick it up over at Prestige Records. 2. [...]

Some of you know, some of you don't...I'm a DJ...not a club DJ(I do that sometimes), but a radio DJ. My show, called The Inkwell Magic Hour is really two hours on Saturday nights (I also do the morning show on this same station to pay the bills, but that's a different story). We put a lot of work into the show, with both of us (Matt and Bart) fooling with and retooling most of the songs...so you won't hear what we play (for the most part) anywhere else. Anywho, I think that last weeks [...]
So, if you actually read this thing, you know that Onieda has a new album on the way. July 11...and the record labels still haven't sent it to us yet. Strange...somebody better get on top of that, because I'm already thinking (after hearing 3 songs) that this is going to be one of the best of the summer... pitchcrack leaked this track today: up with people DAAAAAmmmmmNNNNN!!!
okay, I like the french kicks. A lot. So that's why it's very suprising to me that I'm so late in finding out they have a new album on the way - it drops on July 18. That's great. They're playing in Austin on Saturday with the Futureheads *yuck*....anyways, if you're like me - you want to hear the new stuff now!! Well thanks to the awesome folks at Star Time International you can! listeny: Also Ran

My brother and I were talking about the new Hot Chip album this weekend. About how good it is. I think it comes out tomorrow. Anyways we got an advance copy here at the station...and if it was just for the single, Over and Over , you'd have reason enough to buy this record...but really, it's a solid listen the whole way through...bless the gods @ DFA for putting out another stellar accomplishment!

Ghost exits = good. That's really all I want to say. They're from Brooklyn. They're on The Social Registry which is, in my opinion, one of the best record labels around. You tell me what you think it sounds like: she is beyond good and evil

all hail mighty satan! let's do this! Tv On The Radio_let the devil in Deerhoof_satan Peter Tosh_mark of the beast Iron Maiden_mark of the beast Finally, man I looked and looked online for the original slayer version, but those guys are [...]

Austin's Attack Formation have always been one of my local favorites. The band has 10 members, maybe more...it's hard to keep track. Most of the musicians also lead some of the more stellar bands in Austin. What do you call these guys? Art collective? Noise-rock-dub collective? Art-crunch-post-grunge collective? Does every band that has more then 10 members have to be known as a collective? I think so...beats me. The fact is that the members of the Attack Formation [...]

Rednecks hate france...this is a known fact. They hate the civility of France, the delicious food, the love for art...etc. Perhaps that is why this Athens, GA band decided to name themselves after the country. There are a lot of rednecks in Georgia. Anyways, we got this cd sent to us at the station about 2 years ago. I still never hear anything about these guys anywhere, but they did release something on Jagjaguwar and still update their site....with claims of a new album. Let's hope it comes soon. [...]

I saw the new omen flick tonight. Fucking Hollywood. I bet there are 50,000 great scripts out there just waiting for the chance to be the next classic...but no, they'll never see the light of day because Hollywood is caught up in this "remake" phase. This movie blew. Plain and simple.

Alright, I'm kinda just posting this because I need the link...but I'm also really proud to be putting this show on...attack formation post on it's way!

Since I just started this site about three weeks ago, I've got a lot of ground to cover. So many bands to talk about. Rahim. Great name for a band. Also a great name for an uncle-in-law. Their first five-song EP was in my CD player for months upon months...the new one " ideal lives " came out about a month ago. Rahim gets compared to DC bands a lot. I guess their first ep did have "that sound," but the new one is much more complex...more searching. [...]

What's up? It's Thursday, not just any Thursday - but the Thursday before memorial day...visions of bar-b-q's and swimming are already dancing in my head. To top it all off, I've got some new music to listen to...We just got the advance copy of Onieda's new album, "happy new year." If you don't listen to Onieda...you should. My buddy Bart likes to think of them as "stoner rock" but they're really so much more diverse than that. The album, "the wedding" was one of my favorite releases of [...]
the art collective's mission statement: "Lansing-Dreiden is a company thatsees no distinction between art and commerceâ€"or anything else. Hence, the output of the organization maymanifest itself in various forms, from video to music to product designto the construction of narratives. All Lansing-Dreiden projects are fragmentary, mere stones in a path whose end lies in a space where the very definition of “path†paths." Obviously the group has it's share of critics. I'm not one of them. I think art should be fun, wacky, pretentious...and most of [...]

When you go to SXSW, you always want to see the hot-shit bands that are playing a showcase with about 18 other bands that you don't give a shit about. The schedules for the shows are always janky and never in good order. So what ends up happening is one of two things: 1. You miss the band that you came to see and end up leaving or seeing a band you didn't plan on seeing, or 2. The band you want to see [...]

Some time ago, and apparently witout warning...the DFA record label started to release these really great radio mixes as huge MP3 files. Here's one from James Murphy: beats in space radio show and the link to the rest of them... DFA radio Mixes
