Focus On A Blurry Distance
this week, the richie hawtin show at mighty on june01 was announced and since it falls on the same day of the arcade fire show that i got tix for, i will have to wait for the next go-around from arcade fire unless there is a bit of energy left for the saturday show, but i highly doubt it. a slow year in terms of the number of shows, but with bjork in may and now hawtin, the season seems to be falling into place. also, with lcd ss playing next week, the possibility of the soulwax [...]
And "So It Goes"
rest in peace mr. vonnegut. an existential writer who broke away from structure and created world's unlike any other. kilgore trout will be missed. went to the yuri's night out party on friday night at the nasa research center in mountain view. it was strange to go to a party in a federal facility and it was basically burning man in a hangar as well as outside the hangar. we got to hear telefon tel aviv while we were waiting in line and plaid scared everyone a few hours later while the space cowboys ( [...]

TV On The Radio - Wash 2 Days Away
utah 2007 - taken by travis boyette @ solitude last wednesday and thursday, i had the chance to see tv on the radio perform @ the fillmore. everytime i get to see them, they get better and better. these set of shows topped the great shows at the independent last year. some highlights were the slow and heavy version of 'wash the day away', the hyperkinetic versions of 'wrong way' and 'satellite', a haunting version of 'province' and on the second night, oakland's subtle joining the band for a 'join-in-the-chant' like version of 'a [...]
Yell Scream Cough Spit Gasp Breathe
utah sunset - march 2007 what doin? just got back from utah a week ago and been catchin up on the work thing, so...no time for the fun stuff. utah was a relaxing getaway even though the snowboarding conditions were less than ideal, but i got 5 good days of riding in with good peeps and i even made it onto their local fox channel 13 station with my somewhat diluted thoughts on global warming. i'm back finally and photographer extraordinare gene x tells me that i have a last.fm page [...]
The Float
superflav in banff 2006 it's almost a week until the foeweel gang hits the fresh fields of powder in utah. snowboarding. it's my peace. the closest thing to flying floating getting above or away from your everyday normal existence. the link below takes you to burton's site and a free download of their 'For Right Or Wrong' movie. it shows you every aspect of snowboarding and more importantly instead of being a highlight reel for the pros, it takes you to the core of the passion of what makes people ride...... and it's not [...]
Richie Hawtin 2000
click on the Richie Hawtin/909 image above for an interview by kylen campbell for techTV from 2000. there's also a piece on the love parade as well as an interview with Coldcut. also, kylen is promoting the screening of Hi Tech Soul with a performance from Derrick May. the movie is a great history lesson on the origins of detroit techno and how it's come to influence much of the electronic music made today, so go to blasthaus and get your tickets. thanks kylen.

Click on pic above to see full set of pics last night was the surprising return of speedy j and scott pagano to recombinant for 2 shows and after their first show a few months back i had to bring my camera this time because words cannot provide justice to this sensory overwhelming experience, so enjoy the pics and the vids. remember, let's keep it a secret for now.
Shady Colors
ocean beach.san francisco.january 2007 i finally had the chance to see p.t. anderson's 'punch-drunk love' and it once again proves that he is an incredible director. i enjoyed 'boogie nights' and when 'magnolia ' was released in the theaters i fell asleep a few minutes into it and awoke at the scene when the frogs were falling from the sky. after finally watching it again at home along with his other movies, he has a way of making almost every scene look amazing. he frames everything to enhance the scene and by using jon [...]
Sustained Notes
a rare version of the title track from a bittersweet album full of tragedy by spiritualized. a classic album that is often overlooked due to it being released in the same year as 'ok computer'. they even toured together that year and it was my first full live experience with both radiohead and spiritualized although spiritualized decided to play mostly feedback for the 40 minutes or so they were on stage of radio city music hall. according to to the wik : "Original pressings had an alternative version of the title track, incorporating the lyrics [...]
Just Add Some Water
some years back, i was in NYC to visit some friends and i stumbled upon a Ludwig Mies van der Rohe at the whitney. the above beach towel was one of the products for sale at the exhibit. i'm still scratching my head on that one. i got the shirt instead. my interest in architecture was only beginning at the time, but i was awe struck of how mies was able to create these incredible structures with such minimal features. at first glance, his buildings looked plain and boring, but with further inspection, you could see [...]
The Time Is Getting Wider
bye bye year of six. the first track from the now defunct out hud will be the tale of my evening and into the year/ear, hopefully. the second track is a marvin gaye cover from the hipster indie electro favorites of the moment, hot chip. i'm slowly getting into them and i do like this cover as well anything marvin gaye. with the sharp electro edges, it still retains it's soul. the final track of the year is a cover of probably my favorite radiohead track. it describes my oh-six pretty well. [...]
Scratch It For The Snow
as i take a slight break for the holidaze, i leave you a song that you will hopefully not misconstrue as the white specs that cover your shoulders so often, especially observed by you, and probably by others when wearing dark clothing....i leave you, suzy dry scalp.......? You're So Numb.
Rhodes '73 say it, if you mean it. mean it, if you say it. if it's mean, do you say it? if you hesitate to say it, could it be mean. if you mean to say it and it comes out mean, but you didn't intend to mean it that way, are you being mean ? The Stone Roses - Something's Burning (Alternative Rock) Catherine Wheel - Fripp (Alternative Rock) Freddie Hubbard - Here's That Rainy Day (Jazz) [...]
