NYC indie dance rockers The Bloodsugars head to Minneapolis' Nomad World Pub on Thursday July 10th @ 9 p.m. w/ Koo Koo Kangaroo, Golden Bubbles, Plastic Chord. The boys are touring on their new album, BQEP , on Engine Room Recordings. This is the video for "Purpose Was Again." I love the ~2:40ish mark where they animate over busy NYC.

Brooklyn band The XYZ Affair 's drummer, Sam Rockwell, is originally from Minneapolis and shot me an e-mail about the group's upcoming three song EP, new music video and upcoming tour stop at Minneapolis' Nomad World Pub on Saturday, July 26th. Here's their video from last summer that stars Marc Summers (Double Dare, Unwrapped), Jason Zimbler (Clarissa Explains It All), Danny Cooksey (Salute Your Shorts, Terminator 2) and Michael Maronna (Pete & Pete, 40 Days and 40 Nights, Slackers).

Like Americana folk rock? Searching for a new double-LP to wrap your Midwestern heart around? Check out New York's Matt Keating 's Quixotic , out today on Kealon Records. Keating reunited with longtime studio partner Adam Lasus (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah) and also worked with bassist Jason Mercer (Ron Sexsmith, Ani DiFranco), drummer Jordan Richardson and guitarist Duane Jarvis (Lucinda Williams, Frank Black.) Here's the first track: Matt Keating : "St. Cloud" (mp3) And the video for "Sorry Son"

Check out the first single from The Faint 's upcoming album, Fasciinatiion (Label: blank.wav), out August 5th here . As one of only five bands for which I get tour alert e-mails from Pollstar , I CANNOT BELIEVE the Omaha band known for their energetic, multimedia live shows are skipping Minneapolis on their huge tour: July 27 Des Moines, IA - People's Court [...]

Check out the single from Albert Hammond, Jr. 's new album, ¿Cómo Te Llama? , which drops tomorrow on Black Seal Records. Albert Hammond, Jr. : "GfC" (mp3)

The early 2007 Jazz at Lincoln Center event called "Willie Nelson Sings the Blues" was a two-night country/jazz collaboration between Willie and jazz trumpet legend Wynton Marsalis . Lucky for us, the recordings from the event are available as the 10 track album called Two Men With the Blues . Set for release tomorrow on Blue Note Records, I will say this album is pretty sweet - pairing two of my musical heroes together to perform what grandma would call "oldie but goodies" before opining for the days of full service gas stations and airline [...]

On his new album, Someone Else's Déjà Vu (Saddle Creek), Son Ambulance 's principal singer/songwriter Joe Knapp shows he's come a long long way from his piano-driven indie-pop, "striving for a dirty Billy Joel vibe" that made up much of his 2005 LP, Key (which I really love , by the way). I first caught Son Ambulance around 2002 in a cramped apartment show in Ames, Iowa with a hardwood living room floor serving as a stage. As Knapp tinkered at his keyboard, David Dondero accompanied on guitar and the wine was flowing freely. [...]

In the past 10 months I've acquired every David Bowie album and an entire host of live albums, bootlegs and imports. And to be honest, while I respect him greatly, I'm not the biggest Bowie fan in the world - at least not a regular listener. But apparently I wasn't a "real" Bowie fan until today, when I checked out the new Live Santa Monica '72 disc on Virgin Records - a recording of Bowie's Santa Monica concert that was his first live U.S. radio broadcast (KMET in L.A.) and never available as [...]

Love As Laughter 's Holy came out last week. Obviously influenced by bands like Modest Mouse (whom they toured with, btw), I was immediately struck by the title track and "Crosseyed Beautiful Youngunz," which you can see them perform below (taken from 6/16 show in Rochester):

Mar 's debut album, The Silence , featured Jimmy LaValle of The Album Leaf and Black Heart Procession and Samuli Kosminen of MúM and was recorded in Iceland in the thick of Sigur Ros' Takk... Sessions. The new album, The Sound , was recorded in a backwards Arkansas cabin - just a trifle different atmosphere, really. Guest appearances by Bright Eyes' violinist Anton Patzner and cellist Zoe Keating of Imogen Heap add strong string elements to an already rich layered sonicism. Mar : "Icarus" (mp3) [...]

Today local postmodern indie rock band Aviette release their second full-length album, The Way We Met , on Draw Fire Records. Working with Minneapolis-based producer Darren Jackson (Tapes n' Tapes, Kid Dakota, The Hopefuls) helped the group make some lofty steps on their sophomore offering, and early indications are this band is poised to take off. Aviette : "Why Do We Stop" (mp3) Read our interview with the trio last December here . Aviette play the University of Minnesota on [...]

UK garage punk band The Heys sent us their new album, Young Bored and Broke . The Heys : "Pressure" (mp3) The Heys : "Friday Night" (mp3) While "Pressure" is the lead single, I'd opt for the cooler, Strokes-flavored title track. RIYL The Kinks, Jam, Hives and Strokes.
