Today I present two contrasting kind of songs. One is a terrific, typical song of the urban music lover and the college goer! The other is a typical carnatic song which ebellishes our rich cultural heritage. One is a song which boasts of technical advancement in audio recording techniques while the other shows how human voice is still supreme! Kunal Ganjawala is a awesome singer of our times who specialises in high pitched songs. Since I loved this song the very first time I heard it, I had this wild idea to sing the [...]

Happy Friendship day! This day is more important to me as something good happened today only due to support of my friends worldwide who enjoy my songs. First of all I would like to thank all those who supported the article on me on wikipedia! It has been decided to keep the article after a long battle of words there! That's the happy news! Special thanks to Jyothis and Gluewhale who relentlessly pursued this case and [...]

It has been 26 years since Mohammad Rafi left this world for another world of melodies. But all the melodies that he left for us in this world still linger on! He was born in a small village called Kotla Sultan Singh near Amritsar in December 1924. His family shifted to Lahore when he was still a baby. One day Rafi and his brother Hamid had gone to attend a performance by K L Saigal. But the legendary singer refused to sing since there was a power failure at the venue. Hamid went up to the organiser and asked if [...]
Well my Blog crossed a milestone of 5000 hits and I was aware of this only when someone reminded me today! This is thanks to my Blogging Guru "Joseph Thomas" who introduced me to Blogging in the first place! After that it has been a wonderful journey all the way since April of meeting and knowing awesome singers and musicians from all over the world! I have come to understand the power of the Internet and the amazing opportunities it offers musicians. Everyday it's a process of learning. Due to the continuous support, encouragement and criticism of people [...]

Eric Clapton is one of the Living Legends of our era. He not only is one of the best known Guitar players of the world but also an equally good singer and writer. This song is one of my favorites which holds a special place in my heart! . There are many songs which live in a singer....till the end. This is one of them for me. Sang it for the first time in a competetion on a ship which featured singers from all around the world; Finland, U.K, Japan, Srilanks, Kenya, UAE, Greece, ......almost youth from 13 countries were [...]

Enough is enough! Well, that was my state of mind today, as I was determined to end my self inflicted voice ban after the sinus problem. I last opened my voice to sing on 7th of this month! What a relief it has been to get my act together once again even though I am not fully well. So I have not attempted to go full blast though. I decided to start with a loosner and though that this was the ideal song for a comeback. And what a song! Illiyaraja's songs are like wine; "the more older the better"! [...]

Since I have not yet fully recovered from my acute sinusitis, I cannot sing and so I thought I would throw some light on my recording gear! 1) MICROPHONE: RODE NT2 2) PC: AMD ATHLON 64 WITH 1GB RAM 3) SOUND CARD: AARDVARK PRO 24/96 (4IN/6OUT with PHANTOM POWER) 4) MONITOR SPEAKERS: AN OLD PAIR FROM TECHNICS (1980's stuff) 5) KEYBOARD: KORG TRITON LE 6) SOFTWARE: GUESS!!!!! So that's what gets my voice [...]

Well I am sick and my nose is running and have very bad sinusitis. But this will not prevent me from putting up something today on my blog! Since I am in no condition to sing, I decided to use a very old montage which is from a live show in 1998! I decided to move away from the likes of Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore, Yesudas, S.P.B, Jayachandran and give you a different experience. He may be called the forefather of all the above greats. The greatest of them all who lived like a king and died like a pauper! He [...]
I have posted many new songs on my Music Blog . Have a look.
If K.J Yesudas is the Gaanagandharvan of Malayalam film music, then P Jayachandran is considered as the Bhaavagayakan of Malayalam Film music. P Jayachandran's forte is laying the song with intricately woven subtle sangathis...and terrific expression or bhava! The fact that his voice is still young as it was in the 60's is evident from this song. I still remember the day when I last met Ravindran Master in his Ernakulam Flat, two years back on the day of voting, for office bearers of [...]

Yesterday I had a big celebrity visit to my Music Blog. It was none other than the extremely talented & handsome young music director Sandeep Chowta ! He needs no introduction for any of the Indian music lovers around the world. He came and conquered with Satya and there after he set his own trend with films like Mast , Vaastav , Jungle , Company , Dum , Pyar Tune Kya Kiya , etc. I have many times gone to visit his site just to listen to [...]

This is the first of a series of songs that I will be posting here as part of my tribute to one of the greatest composers of Malayalam Cinema, the late Ravindran Master. His songs range from heavy classics like, Goopaangane, Pramadavanam, Harimuraleeravam, Kalabham Tharam, Sreelavasantham, etc. to folk based songs like Manjakkiliyude, Pularepoonthoniyil, ghazals like Vidatharu, Nirangale paadu and fast numbers like Vaa vaa Manoranjini, sombre melancholy & romantic numbers like, Vishada Naugayil, Etho Nidrathan, Azhage Nin...He did every type of songs in his lifetime. He also introduced new singers like Biju Narayanan, Gayatri, Asha Menon, myself...to name a [...]

I have wondered many times how this song became more and more popular right from the 60's through the 70's, 80's right into 2000's! It was one of the very few songs composed by the late music director "Job Master" for the film "Rosi". It is also said that this song was initially intended for another living legend Udayabhanu! But as fate would have it, he could not sing it due to some reasons, and the song went to Dasettan . This romantic number is special in that it has a western and modern touch to the orchestration and [...]

Here I am re-presenting some songs in the playlist which were my originals for Ravindran Master. The photo shows him teaching "Paalnilaavile" which I sang as track for S.P.B. Out of the songs that I sang for him my most favorite one is "Innunjan Ente" from the Album "Ponnonam". Tells about how someone remebers his mother on Onam day when he sits with his little son for having "Onasadya" on a "Thooshaila". He remembers all what his mother had done for him. This song always brings tears to my eyes.... This song was sequenced and arranged [...]

Today I woke up to hear about a terrible Car accident which resulted in the tragic death of my friend & upcoming music director and talented Flute Player Sachin Kaitharam. He was travelling from Trivandrum to Ernakulam after a program with Jassie Gift. Jassie's manager was driving the Scorpio and they picked up Sachin from a bus stop where he was waiting for the bus! The driver escaped but both Sachin & his friend who were at the back did not escape cruel fate! This has shaken me completely, as I still remember him calling me many times over the [...]

Swati Kanitkar has started a new Blog. Here is the address. http://swatimusic.blogspot.com / She has posted some wonderful Bhajans and some old vintage Lata & Hemant Kumar songs as her intro! they are just fabulous and awesome. Please do have a look. She really is an asset to all music starved ears.....

He is one of our living legends. He is forever young at heart and still going strong. He is the "sakalakalavallabhan" of Indian playback singing! Whatever he does...singing, acting, dubbing...he does with his own inimitable style and elan! He is our own S.P Balasubramaniam or fondly know as S.P.B to all his fans worldwide. His 60th birthday fell on June 4th this year, and as a humble fan of this living legend, I wish to offer my appreciation by singing this terrific song of him with all love and admiration. I had the privilege of singing track for him two [...]
Even though Swati may already be familiar to many of the music lovers through Murali who introduced me to her, I am introducing her voice through my blog to the blog world. Her biggest asset is her sruthi perfection. I have wondered how someone could sing with such perfection. I think she will add to the other gems we have discovered on the blog world. We have tried an old Rafi-Lata number. I hope Swati starts blogging soon. She has lot of great songs on her personal page here Swati's Website [...]
People in Kerala seem to be finally opening their eyes to blind politics. They have started using their vote judiciously. The defeats of K.Muralidharan and his entire D.I.C.K team, P.K Kunhalikutty, and most of other Muslim League candidates proves that the Muslim community of Malabar who were believed to blindly cast their votes for the ladder now have started using their voting power seriously. This shows that people have started to think above political lines and do not want political chamleons and social blots as their leaders any more! No longer can fools and social evils be send to "safe [...]

Kishore Kumar was a rage in his times for the peppy fast numbers and slow melancholy romantic numbers alike. His voice was magnetic, romantic and full of emotion. In my Music Blog I present some of his songs that are unforgettable and enchanting even today. These are excerpts from a live "Kishore Kumar Night" show done at Palakkad, 3 years ago for the Palakkad chapter of "Swaralaya". The experience of singing only in Kishore's voice that too for a whole show was challenging and exciting!
