It's got to be the most auspicious date in electronic music, and parties all around the world are springing up to celebrate. Obviously, if you can be, the place to be is the 808 State party in London , which includes I-F, Arthur Baker, and DMX Krew. But if you're not fortunate enough to be partying with the old school, there's some pretty great new school options over here in the US. As for me, I'll be throwing down at The Tank for their 808 '08 Party. Scion of the alien-obsessed Detroit techno-godfathers [...]

I freaking love it when a planned Res post is interrupted by something urgent and awesome. Today's cause of Postus Interruptus? That Rex The Dog album is FINALLY SEEING THE LIGHT OF DAY. An entire calendar year...or two... after it was first listed as "available in like a week" from the Kompakt promobot (who has since died an untimely and unfortunate death-if you're still out there, Kompakt promobot or Forced Exposurebot, holla), Rex The Dog's Rex The Dog Show is finally due to be available on Hundehaus Records in September. And, in true too-cute-to-rave Rex fashion...there's a comic [...]

With all this talk about Res repping Brooklyn, I thought I'd ressurect a vastly-overdue-for-posting song from where the other half of Resonator resides-Atlanta. One of the biggest surprises the past year has held for me is that of the resurgence of dreamy, wind-and-feedback swept school of shoegaze. Don't get me wrong, I'd sell my left anything (or right anything, or only anything) for the chance to experience My Bloody Valentine raging into "You Made Me Realise" for like 25 minutes until synapses are bloody pulps, nerves are raw and all sound is apathy-inducing, but on [...]
New York's only monthly chiptune series returns, this time at The Tank's new venue at DCTV! If you had been to a show over the last two months at The Tank, you know that there was some serious crap (no pun intended) going down, and it's definitely a pleasure to be in a space that has that new venue smell (at least, new to us). If you attended the mind-and-circuit bending festivities of Bent Festival 2008, then you've already been to DCTV and know that you're going to have room to breathe and room to dance- but know that the [...]

My two favorite bands from Australia named after things you have or do on your computer are coming to the States for a dual headlining tour guaranteed to knock your SOCKS OFF. Tickets are now on sale at ticketbastard, so get 'em while they're still available, because this is the dance party you are going to kick yourself if you miss. Resonator is going to have a lot of coverage of these guys coming at you in the lead up to Hacks and me attending the NYC shows, so stay tuned!
Well.. I kinda did. I haven't posted about them in forever, nor I have received any updates from them in quite some time. They're one of my favorite lesser-known producers and I don't think there's a remix of original piece of there's that I haven't enjoyed. Backtracking... Trixie and were discussing the awesomeness that is The Presets this morning, her saying they were both a prog house band in disguise and that the Miami Horror remix of "Talk Like That" -while good- is a let down if you're expecting the original (and I [...]

It's pretty awesome when, unexpectedly, a track ends up in my email inbox that not only touts itself as reminiscent of a Kompakt Speicher release but also manages to hold to the expectation that creates. A blast from Moodgadget Records brought with it a handful of treats I've yet to unwrap, and this one, which I've already devoured and am regurgating for you to also taste. It's how baby birds get their music. Frank Omura: The Juggernaut Audition I know nothing about Frank other than [...]

Oh, hai guise... Ok, ok, ok. First of all, I'm not going to do the usual "...trixie shows up and apologizes for not posting for three months" thing because, honestly, I've been busy working on my life long dream of being the female, short, blonde, American version of Tony Wilson, and that's why you haven't seen me in awhile. I'm still working hard bringing people new music, I've just kind of limited my scope to the "live" and "NYC" part of that job. You guys wouldn't believe how hard it is to jump on to Res and write a post [...]

Its more Black Ghosts times! Tonight, come play "spot Trixie and Hacks at the Black Ghosts show"! (hint, we'll both be dancing our asses off and odds are they'll be a bunch of people watching us do so). The Black Ghosts - I Want Nothing (Jack Beats' Remix)

There's something to be said for taking a decade to refine a sound. For forward-thinking electronic producer/songwriter/at-times-B jork-bandmember Leila, the 10 years from her spaced, airy and fluttering Like The Weather 'til now have seen her move from sunshine to deep, dark nightmare/dreamscape soundplay. If I were to say that Blood, Looms and Blooms sounds wonderfully, fantastically and (yes) refreshingly like what the label WARP used to immediately conjure, hopefully I'll have said all I need to-because it's an electronic masterpiece. Four and a half stars and a giant [...]

I meant to put this out on Sunday, and then my title would have been more "Last Night blah blah blah" but I'm lazy and swamped with work and blah blah blah, so oh well. Saturday night played host to Hacks his new friend Toba taking a trip to Tribeca Grand to dance till the lights came on to one bearded deejay/bass player named Fred Falke . But wait, I should tell this story properly. See it all started with this: Toba: "Hey, let's hang out" Hacks: "Ok, I'm going to see [...]

It would be a band from Brooklyn that would manage, with one song, to capture a sense of loss and longing, a claustrophobic, encroaching darkness with any crystalline angles muted to the point of sounding less jagged and more worn and broken. That band would be the Crystal Slits , and that song would be this song. Crystal Slits : Shattered Shine At first, I really wanted to shake these boys off, or at least turn a deaf ear [...]

Ok, so it happened: I found some Robyn that I actually like Robyn: Be Mine This is such a 3am "last song played in a set by Superstar DJ X" where the "x" is intentional jam, and not at all the Knife ripoffs that most of the rest of this stupid record is. On the whole, I just don't understand the Robyn phenomenon, other than-seriously, other than-that schnawsagely awesome tinkly re-imagining of that song that really should have been done by Pink, "Show Me Love". Robyn: Show [...]

As a result of several things-the fact that I've recently fallen in love with Hipster Runoff to the point where I want to BE THEM (do you hear that, HRO? I WANT YOU INSIDE ME!), the fact that Hacks is all about day-glo dinosaurs and stuff that's totally not at all French but wants to be and Trixie wishes she could live in the second NES Zelda game (yeah, the one that was impossible to beat but kind of rocked-I had that gold cartridge which meant, I think, that I was either one of the first or one [...]

The crew over at Buffet Libre have been assembling this collection for quite some time now and they just announced it is finally complete. Sixty quality covers/remixes of your favorite (or obscure) 80s tracks all available for free in one nicely wrapped package. So what does that mean? Well it means that good ol' hacks here has been listening all 60 tracks on repeat trying to pick out my favorites. I've tried to stick to some that aren't littering hype... but no guarantees. Dragonette takes the ZZ top sound and destroys it with [...]

Being the Anti-RIAA kids that we are, we figured that hopefully some of you would enjoy this as much as we did: Today, the Pirate Bay and the Bureau of Piracy start their journey throughout Europe, that will reach its climax at the art festival Manifesta by the end of next week in Bolzano, Italy. The good news is that if you'd like to join them en route, everyone is welcome. The pirates will be touring in an old bus they bought and prepared for their trip road trip through [...]

Flying Lotus: Robo Tussin I am so f-ing glad this exists. Let's face it, there are more remixes of Lil Wayne 's " A milli " out there right now than ever existed, ever, for anything else, ever, including but not limited to Lil Wayne 's " A milli ". No, you think about that-I don't want to. What I'd rather do is listen to how Lotus, who is bringing the drowsy, half-step and woozy wobble back to the hip-hoppin' side of WARP, makes some [...]

Both Xinobi and Moulinex have been personal favorites for quite some time now. I've rocked out tracks by both of them on more than five occasions and they just don't seem to get old. Well there's good news for us (or for me; screw you guys if you don't like 'em) since they finally launched their label this weekend: Disco Texas The first release from it is Xinobi's "Day Off" and its a driving disco-infused french house rumble the walls and tear down the house track. Its available via Beatport [...]

Its a double release party for I AM SOUND! Both The Black Ghosts and Sunny Day Sets Fire enjoy in store releases today. The Black Ghosts ' Self Titled album is brilliant; I've been listening to it none stop since the promo magically showed up in my mailbox. 11 Tracks worth of the dance floor filling tracks you've come to expect, plus some blissful ballads on the lighter side to keep everything balanced. I'd hope The Black Ghosts need no introduction, but if so, I'll just let you face the [...]
So I've got a deejay crush on Sta . He throws down great sets, his remixes consistently find their way into my deejay sets, and I danced my ass off the one chance I got to see him live. So when I get a handy update that he's got a remix of what somehow has become a hugely popular track for top40 hipster club kids: I make love in this blog. Usher feat. Young Jeezy - "Love in this Club (Sta Remix)" He also recently remix Toronto-based These Electric Lives [...]
