Datarock took the floor right at half past eight and had our attention the whole time they graced our presence. It was the first time an opening band was worth seeing rather than making a beer run or [...]
Brazilian Girls . Neither members are from Brazil nor girls... well one is a girl. They were quite fun to see when they played here last year with Ladytron. Preceding their self-titled debut album and their second album, Talk to La Bomb , is New York City . Expect it in stores August 5. From Talk to La Bomb, "Rules of the Game." Mysterioso...
Trent baby's done it again. :-) I'm quoting their MySpace bulletin... Nine Inch Nails is pleased to offer a free EP featuring songs from the talented group of artists who will be supporting NIN on the Lights In The Sky tour this summer. The EP contains high quality, DRM-free, fully tagged MP3 files from A Place To Bury Strangers, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Crystal Castles, Deerhunter, and Nine Inch Nails. The download also includes artwork and a pack of digital extras. To download, visit http://lightsinthesky. nin. com

I have been waiting for this for a quite a while. To be exact, I've been waiting since I interview ed them last February. :-) At any rate, this is one of the music addict's take on Ladytron's latest and greatest. The opening track is "Black Cat". Think "Turn It On" and "True Mathematics" off their sophomore album, Light & Magic . It's chill, goth and addictive to listen to. The only thing I wished they did for "Black Cat" was segue it into "Ghosts." Being their first single as well as making a music video, [...]

I came across a few treasures in the way of chick rock in the last few weeks. It looks like there's some good new indie releases on the horizon for summer. I just got an EP in the mail from Samantha Crain . She's from Oklahoma and has been compared to " Judy Garland singing Neutral Milk Hotel songs." Her new EP, The Confiscation, is packaged as a "musical novella" and I really dig it. Check out the track "Traipsing Through The Aisles" on her Myspace page [...]
I'm a-lookin' and I'm a-likin'... Coldplay - "Violet Hill" Ladytron - "Ghosts"
This *just happened* not even 15 minutes ago when they posted a MySpace bulletin and blog. It's out there for $9.99 via iTunes plus. It will come out in stores June 3. Get it!!!
And freebies too... 1. "When Your Mind's Made Up" and "Falling Slowly" by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova – I chose these tracks for my two free song credits I received when I got The Swell Season tickets online. Even though these are both great, I favor "When Your Mind's Made Up" more. When Hansard holds out those notes live and on film , you turn numb it's so good. I haven't heard someone get into their music that much in a while. "Falling Slowly" has that spark as well knowing they're together in real [...]

I have of tickets to give away...thanks to the lovely people at the Loft , who are hosting some pretty awesome line-ups in the coming weeks... This week, I have two pair to give away. Aren't you excited? If you want to enter both, be my guest. In case you're wondering, I pick winners from a hat. So it's pure luck. First off, Thursday, May 22, Bell X 1 is playing with support from Brooke Waggoner and Rantings of Eva . In case you don't know, Bell X 1 [...]
Legends are breathing the same air as us right now. The Eagles will be playing at the brand-spankin' new Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park May 14 (last night), 16, 17 and 20. Under the same roof as them last night, I was in rare form jumping up and down like a kid at a candy store. They played all the hits: "Witchy Woman," "Life in the Fast Lane," "Desperado," "Take it Easy," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "Lyin' Eyes," "The Long Run," "One of These Nights," "Love Will Keep Us Alive" and others. Oh yeah, I forgot [...]
Sure, it's last minute, but this is how fun things work. I have a pair of tickets to the Hives show at the Loft tomorrow (which is May 15)...do you want to go? Well, then shoot me an email with your name. I'll let you know tonight if you won. email me!

The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre was chillaxing last night while listening to The Swell Season . Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova of the film Once brought in a packed audience to the 2,750-seat venue. I sat with my bloody nose alllllll the way at the top balcony in the middle of the last row (but I was there, right?). People watching was a plus looking at audience members in jeans, sundresses and a case of the metros. Hansard opened up the show with "Say It to Me [...]
Yesterday was the release of yet another Nine Inch Nails album entitled The Slip . This time it's online and FREE. Trent baby said on the May 5 blog entry , "(thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one's on me.)" This pushes him back up on my good list after the Ghosts I-IV episode. The Slip doesn 't fall. After hearing "1000000" on MySpace , I slipped and fell (head over heels). Check it !
Chris McDonald won the CD I was giving away. Yay! Back to my Kleenex and vitamin C induced liquids...
Fun song alert! I heard this on the way to a mojito outing last night and fell in LOVE with it! The song: "Chelsea Dagger" by The Fratellis. It's a couple years old, but that's not the point. I haven't been this excited about a track since "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers . Listen to it (again). Lurve it. Sing along to it (if you can). Embrace it with open arms. But most of all... BLAST THE VOLUME!! Listen to the fun here or watch below. Cheers dears!
Go to Coldplay.com for a *free* download of "Violet Hill" off their upcoming album, Viva La Vida . It's only available for one week starting today, so get it while it's out there. Have a listen to "Violet Hill" on their Myspace as well. Viva La Vida hits US stores June 17. Cheers!
I've got a CD to give away from David Ford , a most awesome singer/songwriter so full of angst that it makes me warm inside. This is the same guy who is opening for Sarah Bareilles tomorrow night at Variety. In case you have been under a rock, the show is sold out, so unless you already have tickets, you are SOL, my friend. Anyway, he is pretty much the poo. I mean, really. If you want Songs for the Road , just email me your name with the subject "David Ford." [...]

So, on a personal note, I highly doubt I will ever get to blogging much at all because... I've just accepted a job in New York with glaceau. So, please, drink lots of vitaminwater and smartwater (which you should be doing anyway since they're awesome)! Just thinking about everything I need to do before I leave is making my head spin like that chick in that movie. I'll be heading out the middle of June, so wish me luck. As much as I love to hate to love Atlanta, this opportunity is [...]

So, I'm a little behind with this, but I saw Kate Nash play at Variety Tuesday night, and it was pretty amazing. Despite the fact that I was surrounded by 13-year-old girls and their moms, it was a good time. Nash definitely knows how to connect with her crowd and bring a good live show. From "Shit Song" in the beginning of the set, to a new song about the ocean, I couldn't take my eyes or ears off her for a second. There's something very refreshing about watching a girl sing about a "Dickhead" and having an [...]

The Sasquatch Music Festival is coming up over Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-26, 2008) at The Gorge in George, WA. If you haven't been to this festival before, it's actually one of the most enjoyable because instead of a bunch of rednecks getting their "mosh" on (wow - that was really 90's of me), it's a group of low-key music lovers who are just there to enjoy some tunes and have a nice time. Oh, and The Gorge is beautiful. I am still trying to wrangle some people into going, but here's the line-up . [...]
