Here's some video footage I shot of Dutch Uncles performing their tune 'Face In' during the first of three Manchester In The City sets - this one was at the Chicago Rock Cafe. Dutch Uncles also played the Deaf Institute later the same night, and were a last night minute addition to the Now Wave showcase at the Night and Day (on the bill with The Drums , May68 and Young British Artists). Dutch Uncles - Face In Live at Manchester Chicago Rock Cafe - Sunday 18th Oct 2009 [...]

The Drums were one of the most hyped bands of this year's Manchester In The City.... and, as it turns out, the hype was probably justified. They were certainly in my top 5 bands of the festival. A cracking energetic set with catchy tunes, played to a feverish crowd reaching the end of their 3-day ITC benders. My favourite part: the pirouting and twirling tambourinist threatening to spin-off the side of the stage with each wild revolution! [...]

Towards the end of May, Manchester band Run Toto Run recorded a cover of the Passion Pit tune 'Sleepyhead' and uploaded it to YouTube. Over the course of the summer the video went viral, clocking up an impressive 44,000 views - whilst an mp3 recording of the tune hit the front page of The Hype Machine (a site that aggregates blogposts from influential music blogs) Last night Run Toto Run played at the Manchester Deaf Institute (as part of a Friends Of Mine night featuring Mutineers [...]

The Answering Machine are a local Manchester band I've been a big fan of since their early days. I think the first time I saw them live was during July 2006 - at an Akoustik Anarkhy night at the Manchester Rampant Lion and a few days later at Salford Islington Mill . Since those humble Fallowfield beginnings, the band have: upgraded their drum machine ('Mustafabeat') with full-time member Ben Perry played shows in New York , LA , Ibiza, Glastonbury, T In The Park [...]

They play live at the [...]
I first found out about Alessi's Ark through Adam and Joe's 6Music show and their repeated plays of the magical single ' Over The Hill '. I missed the opportunity to catch Alessi live in Manchester back in May, so I was happy to spot her on the line-up for Hard Rock Calling in London's Hyde Park (alongside Neil Young, Fleet Foxes, Seasick Steve, Magic Numbers, Johnny Flynn, Priscilla Ahn, The Pretenders). Whilst the other artists were scheduled for the 'Main' and 'Pepsi Max' stages, Alessi's Ark played on the much more intimate Bandstand [...]

The very wonderful Manchester-based The Tim and Sam band (and their tune 'Put Your Slippers On') have been used by the Co-operative bank in an advert to "celebrate the Co-Op's 15th anniversary of their unique customer-led Ethical Policy" IndieMusicBlog were lucky enough to catch the band (billed as Tim And Sam's Tim And Sam Band With Tim And Sam) live last month at Blowout in Chorlton , and we're definitely new converts. We've been obsessed with San Diego's The Album Leaf for the best part of [...]

So this year's Manchester In The City has been and gone - how was it for you? A fixture pile-up in the days before ITC even started on Friday last week, meant that I went to gigs five out six nights in the row... and have been paying for it all this week. I took photos at most of the shows I went to, but only on my smaller digital camera - I didn't trust myself getting pissed whilst trying to look after expensive equipment! In the days leading up to ITC I saw:-
