Kanye West's "Can't Tell Me Nothin'," featuring Zac Galifianakis gyrating on and around various farm equipment while Will Oldham lurks in the background. PS: Also, clogging.
Sharon Jones (the undisputed current queen of soul, at least around here) and the Dap-Kings are going out on tour, but are coming nowhere near our fair city.. TEARDROPS. I missed her last time she was here, too. Anyway, BrooklynVegan has a bit of info on Daptone records, as well as a download from SJ's new album. Highly recommended, obviously. Some YouTube: SJ singing Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In): [...]
If you're hanging around this evening, looking for a great band to see, head on over to Grimey's and catch the everybodyfields , doing an in-store performance at 6 PM. Their new album, Nothing is Okay , is in stores today, and from what I can tell of the tracks I've heard so far, sounds pretty great. You can sample some of the new stuff on myspace , or through their virtual jukebox on the official website. The show is free! The CD will be worth every penny. Nothing much to report over here. We [...]
I didn't get up this morning with a plan to post about the big white leisure suit in the sky, and, to be honest, I enjoy his music but am no Elvis expert. The more I've poked around, though, reading blogs this morning, the more I realized that I wanted to say just a little bit of something about Elvis. I was born and raised in Mississippi, and when I was making the transition into junior high, my family moved up to a suburb of Memphis. We were so close to Graceland that I almost could have walked [...]
Is definitely Locust Street . See aforementioned blog for great mp3s, a few musical history lessons, and a compendium of pretty much every interesting Serge Gainsbourg clip ever posted on youtube, including this one, where he says on screen that he'd like to screw Whitney Houston. To Whitney Houston. Using more colorful language. He touches her on the neck and her eyeballs look like they're going to explode: I especially appreciate the attempts of [...]
I can't say anything that would do justice to the event last night that was Rufus Wainwright live, at the Ryman, but it was probably one of the more incredibly entertaining things I've seen in my whole entire life. Oh, Rufus! I guess I went into it expecting a fairly straightforward show; I'd never seen him live before last night and didn't really have much of a clue as to his on-stage persona.. I did not expect costume changes. Rufus in a sparkling patchwork suit, Rufus in lederhosen , wearing a tennis bracelet and a diamond necklace. And the [...]

1. Most importantly: eeeeeeee! Huge buttsmacks (I'd like to institute the use of the word "buttsmacks" instead of "thanks") to Alison for the ticket. 2. I have been battling the wilds of Craigslist for three weeks in search of a bread maker. This has almost become an obsession. I thought I found one last week, but I think that the person flaked. This has been the third or fourth flake-out via Craigslist, and I am slowly being driven [...]

<a href=" http://votefortrees.com/" Don't think I've mentioned this here yet, but I started working for an amazing company in February called Emma . They are a permission based email marketing company based here in Nashville, and they are probably the coolest thing going. If you need a way to reach folks by email, let me know. Anyway, Emma is sponsoring an Arbor Day campaign called "Vote For Trees." It's a simple concept: go to this website , and vote for [...]
Hi! Hello, woefully underused blog! Tonight, at the 12 South Arts Venue, Improv Nashville is performing a comedy improv show as a part of Laughing Stock 2007, a benefit for Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital . St. Jude is a hospital that does very great things, and is dear to me because of my brother John, who was a patient there when we were children. So, come! All proceeds from the show go to benefit St. Jude. Tickets are 12 dollars and can be purchased in advance from Improv Nashville's [...]
So I haven't given a 24 update in a couple of weeks, and that's mainly because I'm pretty disappointed with the direction the show is taking. I feel like the wheels came off somewhere around the 12th hour, and I'm not sure they're going to be able to recover at this point. So instead of talking about the episode, I'm going to talk about general things that are ruining the 24 experience at this point. More Jack, Please - I don't think we've ever had a time on 24 that the show was less [...]

I just want to get this out of the way. I'm open for debate on this point, but I'm willing to go out on a limb here and now and say that "Blades Of Glory" has usurped "Anchorman" as the best of the Will Farrell canon. I know there are a few "Old School" believers out there as well, but I think that after this one, the argument is settled. "Blades" takes the prize. I'm not going to ruin the movie by rehashing it here, but I will defend my [...]

First, I'd like to say that I really liked this episode. I would still like to see more Jack, but overall, this was a great episode. Time for lists! The good: Martha Logan is back! And she stabbed Charles in the neck! She is my favorite new character from last season, so I hope stabbing Charles isn't her last act on the show. Not sure if Logan is going to die or not, but we can always hope. Silver Spoons kicked some serious ass. I'm wondering [...]

I'm selling cupcakes at Improv Nashville's Mainstage show tonight. The show starts at 8 PM, and you can now buy your tickets online! You can also pay 10 dollars at the door, but shows fill up pretty fast. They'll be performing short-form and long-form improv. CUPCAKE. These are dark chocolate buttermilk cupcakes with a cream cheese frosting. And green sprinkles!! Green like trees. Sorry, pretty pink plate is not for sale. Bring a dollar [...]

So, one of the things that I like about this whole "relaunch" of the blog is that Matt is posting more often! Sure, yes, he's posting about people getting punched in the face and fingers being sliced off and more BOY ACTION than you can shake a stick at, but at least the blog is getting a good workout. One of the things I actually want to share on here that I never felt quite belonged before is my semi-obnoxious obsession with cooking and baking. So, here's a bit of domesticity to balance out the ass kicking and unsportsmanlike behavior. [...]
From this article on ESPN.com , where Tyler insists there is no bad blood between him and Gerald Henderson: Hansbrough said Tuesday he hasn't heard from Henderson, who flagrantly fouled him with 14.5 seconds left in North Carolina's 86-72 victory Sunday. Okay. Let's say you're playing a sport and you accidentally, I don't know, break a guy's nose or something. And let's say he's rushed off the court because he's bleeding profusely and he also looks like he might eat your head if he gets close to you. And [...]
And I would be silly not to include one of my favorite songs from the now-defunct Austin group, 8.5 Souvenirs . Eight and a Half Souvenirs: No Lo Visto

Happy spring! Happy blog! Happy Tuesday! I'm on spring break , suckers, so I've spent some good lounge time listening to music and putting together an mp3 post. I have been completely enamored of vintage French pop music lately, ever since the purchase of this album , and it's inspired me to dig out some older stuff that I haven't listened to in a while. To me, French pop music screams SPRINGTIME! It helps that the sun is shining, the day is beautiful, and I don't have to teach for another few days. [...]
I'm a big 24 fan, and even though I've been a little disappointed by this season, I still think it's the best show on television. Last night, I felt like it got a little of the magic back. I could write a huge post here, but let's just do lists. If you haven't seen this episode, you should stop reading here. First, the good things: Tom Lennox stepping up to the plate. Honestly, this was probably the biggest surprise of the season so far. I was sure that Lennox [...]

Carolina blue, that is. I may live in Nashville, but I grew up in North Carolina, and as a result, I chose sides early. I've been a Heels fan for as long as I can remember, going as far back as Joe Wolf and J.R. Reid. I even vaguely remember watching Matt Doherty play when I was very young. And being a true blue Carolina fan, there's always the matching corollary: I hate Duke. As you can imagine, I always look forward to the two UNC/Duke games every [...]
Well, it's been awhile, but after a long winter hiatus, we're ready to open up shop and rejoin the land o' blogs! That's right, Muse: Nashville is ready for a relaunch, and honestly, we're ready for a bit of an overhaul. After losing our passion for this site, Celine and I started questioning why we weren't really interested in posting anymore. The answer was very simple. First, we were extremely busy. And second, Muse: Nashville had become a "local events blog," and we never wanted to be an events blog. Don't get me [...]
