Greece isn't really known for its budding music scene but every now and again this country produces music you just can't ignore. This time around, it's a duo from Athens that call themselves Keep Shelly In Athens . Writing the most beautiful, etherial dream pop tracks with female vocals had me completely hooked upon first listen. Not much is known on the duo except they currently have a EP out entitled In Love With Dusk out on Forest Family Records. Getting a lot of comparisons to St. Etienne, the band presents the [...]
Oh Ke$ha , finally you've decided to put on a cocktail dress and ditch the dumpster look (which I think suits her very well and actually quite dig to be honest). Not only that but you managed to get James Van Der Beak and call him James Van Der Douche (amazing!) AND unicorns in your video. Pretty brilliant if you ask me. Now, for your viewing pleasure:
The Naked And Famous had one of my favorite tracks of last year with their dremy pop masterpiece Young Blood and now they are finally coming Stateside for a tour with Foals and Freelance Whales as well as an appearance at SXSW. The song Young Blood has also gotten the royal remix treatment from Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio) who added a more pop edge to the track. You can listen to it here: The [...]
What happens when 20 girls get together and decide to form a band? One word: Gaggle. Made up of Alibi, Bennett, Coughlin, Culwick, D, Dana, Green, Gusset, Honey, Kiki, Kumari, Launette, Lipstick, Luddite, McClean, Missmiss, Namsoo, Polydorou, Strick, Wunderla who all go by pseudonym since they hold down normal day jobs. Considered "beyond description" by the Time in the UK, the band calls themselves an all girl alt-choir that make music about booze, drugs and things you always wish women had the guts to sing about more often. To get the true experience, check out [...]

You may think Tribes is surely an American band circa the late 80's in the Northeast or early 90's in the Northwest but you are sorely mistaken on this one. Actually, they are a band that formed in 2009 in London that got their start passing their demo out to friends and playing every possible gig in the London underground scene possible till the buzz really started to grow. Now, they are opening for everyone's new favorite band (so it seems), Mona. There isn't too much music going around YET but you can [...]
The 8th Radiohead album is HERE! Pushing the release up one day early, you can download The King Of Limbs now for your listening pleasure. Most importantly, the brand new video for Lotus Flower has been released and features Thom Yorke alone in black and white showing off some fancy footwork. Absolutely gorgeous.

An Horse reminds me about everything I loved about late 80's music coming out the the Northeast (opinion...we are all allowed to have them) and the band releasing their sophomore album Walls is a a release I've been looking for for some time. The band is gearing up to drop the album on April 26 via Mom + Pop Music with the following tracklisting: 1. "Dressed Sharply" 2. "Not Mine" 3. "Airport Death" 4. "Know This, We've Noticed" 5. "Trains and Tracks" 6. "Walls" 7. "Brain on a Table" [...]
This is what the future of music is...and one of the best late night performance the world has seen in ages. I will say no more...just watch.
Ahhh Portland...a city where over the years they have silently continued to put out great music without fail. 2011 sees another band that is hopefully going to break out of the "great local band" mold and get recognized. Name: Blouse . Sound: Dreamy shoegaze with breathy female vocals. Score: A+. Featuring Charlie Hinton, Patrick Adams and Jacob Portrait, the Portland trio has released a video for their first single Into Black that lure's you in from the second Hinton softly sings the first note. Their video for [...]

There are a lot of "super groups" turning up these days and Middle Brother has just thrown themselves into the mix. Made up of Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit; these boys have shied away from any use of the synthesizer and embraced the return of rock in their debut album set for release on March 1, 2011. In addition, they feel like giving you all a free MP3 which you can download HERE The band is also set to hit the [...]
I'm falling more in love with Jessie J the more she does. Her video for her new single Price Tag is fun, tasteful and just plain awesome. Featuring Jessie amongst a lot of "larger than life" things that the song says she doesn't "need", the video is filled with beautiful colors, Jessie looking fantastic (she really DOES love that lace one piece though a little too much...) and the ending with a little dancing between Jessie and B.o.B. is super cute. This girl is the real [...]

Finally, the moment we've all been waiting for...Coachella's 2011 lineup is now announced. A few surprises are in here including SUEDE (or The London Suede for us Americans) and the reuniting of Death From Above 1979. Its a solid lineup with headlining spots being covered by Arcade Fire, Kanye West and Kings Of Leon. Plus, PJ Harvey is playing...and that is never to be missed. Full lineup can be seen here:
Jessie J (a.k.a. Jessica Cornish) has literally come out of nowhere to become unavoidable in the music world. Winning the BBC Sound of 2011 (previous winners include Adele, Mika and Little Boots), the 22 year old singer has hit with her debut single Do It Like A Dude , which she originally wrote for Rihanna but ended up keeping it for herself (good thing she did!). This girl has a voice to kill, writes incredibly catchy tunes with an edge (she was behind Miley Cyrus' smash Party In The U.S.A. with Dr. Luke) [...]
Beady Eye , better known as a reformation after Oasis sans Noel have recently released their first single entitled The Roller on XFM in the UK and HOLY SHIT its incredible. It reminds you of everything Oasis once was; the catchy chorus, the signature vocals...its absolutely fantastic. I've just gotten 10 times more excited for the debut album on February 28th!!! Listen for yourself here...
Oh Amy, how we've missed you! Ms. Winehouse is back with a new song, a cover of the 1963 Lesley Gore classic It's My Party and its good to have her back. Teaming up with Mark Ronson to produce the song for the Q: Soul Bossa Nostra release, it sounds like a typical Winehouse song with her nasal vocals paired up with that soulful voice. Is it good...well, its Amy so its got to be. Listen to it here: [...]
M.I.A. once again has made a video and let it go viral...this time around for her track Story To Be Told . Taking the Captcha style and placing words from the lyrics boxed around a white bird, the song wails as the words fade into the background. Its simplicity allows M.I.A. to get across her favorite thing these days...a message. Check out the clip here: M.I.A. kicks off her North American tour today with label mate and protege Rye Rye.
Being a band for 20 years has its ups and downs and for The Charlatans this definitely has a lot of truth to it. With the release of their 11th album Who We Touch the band decided to make a rare trip Stateside to play several shows around the country for the first time in around 4 years. The band gave fans exactly what they wanted while making sure they showcased their new material, which is bound to become certified "fan favorites" tracks in the future. Opening with Then from their debut [...]
The Charlatans are back with a brand new album, Who We Touch and a shiny new single and video to accompany it. The band recently released their video for the single My Foolish Pride which sees Tim looking like he did back when Some Friendly came out...a.k.a massive mop top. Still suits him though! The video features Burgess traveling on trains, walking through stations and clearly reminiscing about a former love which sadly it seems at the end he is after all, alone. Check [...]
With the fall season coming our way soon, the perfect soundtrack seems to have come from Brie Stoner and her brand new release, the Delicate Hour EP . Sounding like a cross between Neko Case and Mazzy Star, this Midwestern girl has a voice as smooth as honey and is pretty much love at first listen. Check out her video for her song Together Forever here: I can't wait for more from this girl!
