After an entire year of listening to music pretty much non-stop, here is the music that has separated itself from the pack and floated to the top. Or, in some cases, rocketed to the top. Top Albums 30) How To Dress Well - Love Remains 29) Frightened Rabbit - The Winter Of Mixed Drinks 28) Abe Vigoda - Crush 27) Mount Kimbie - Crooks & Lovers 26) The Chemical Brothers - Further 25) Hot Chip - One Life Stand 24) Angus & Julia Stone - Down The Way 23) [...]

Here are two remixes that I haven't been able to stop listening to recently. I want to use these songs when DJing a party at 5 AM when a hundred people are just coming down off of E and sinking into the chairs and sofas, and they trying to desperately remember what exact moment in the past 7 hours of dancing was their favorite. All they can remember is that at this moment, when their bodies are trying to claw its way back to normalcy, they want to tap their feet and lay back eyes closed. [...]

So I've basically given up on updating this regularly. My work schedule plus rather hectic life has prevented me from keeping any sort of regular schedule over the past year or so, so I'll just update this when I feel like it. Much less stress! Anyway, for those of you who still read HSB, I'd like to share with you one of my newest obsessions, Ponchos . I was sent a couple tracks of theirs the other day and I haven't been able to [...]
One of my favorite songs this year
I can't decide if this is a guilty pleasure or just something I straight-up like yet. I know all the music purists out there are over dubstep already, especially the wobble-wobble kind, but I can't help but love this song. It's made perfectly for the UK charts, and probably won't make any kind of impact in America at all, but whatever. Katy B following in the footsteps of UK electronic MCs like Craig David, Ms Dynamite, etc? Maybe.

For a fun time and an interesting cross-section of LA's vibrant music scene, come to Swimming With Sharks this Saturday the 24th at Downtown Standard. I'll be DJing, along with our buddies in Local Natives and We Are The World . Here's What I've Been Listening To DJ Nate - Make 'Em Run Theo Parrish - Ugly Edits (various) These New Puritans - Hologram (Salem Remix) (coming out tomorrow) Fat Joe - Jealous Ones Still Envy
This might be taking trippiness to a whole new level

Once again, apologies for lack of posts. I've been traveling quite a bit recently (London, Stockholm, New York, which is where I am right now) and life has been crazy. That doesn't mean I won't post about Salem 's new album, King Night . Out September 28th, this album will rule all. Absolutely amazing. 01 King Night 02 Asia 03 Frost 04 Sick 05 Release Da Boar 06 Trapdoor 07 Redlights 08 Hound 09 Traxx 10 Tair [...]

I first heard of Actress through one of my favorite current UK electronic musicians, Zomby . Actress is the head of Werk Discs, the label that put out Zomby's fantastic Where Were U In '92 album, and so of course I had to check out Actress's music as well. As you would expect from someone who puts out Zomby and other like-minded musicians, Actress has the kind of 'post-dubstep' (hate that term?), experimental electronic music which brings together a handful of electronic subgenres. [...]
Sorry I've severely slacked recently - I'm in London currently for work and have not had much time to do really anything. If you're in London, come out to Smash N Grab at Proud Camden tomorrow night (Thursday night), I'll be DJing. That being said, here's what I've been listening to... Kisses - People Can Do The Most Amazing Things (upcoming single) Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs Nina Simone - Nina Simone at Newport Robyn - Dancing On My Own (Remixes EP) Gaslight Anthem - [...]
Today marks the release day for LCD Soundsystem 's new album This Is Happening . Considering the fact that James Murphy is pretty much indie royalty now and this album has gotten crazy amounts of hype, there is nothing much I can say or do to really help or hinder the album. However, that's not to say that I don't want to still celebrate the release of the album, by giving away a limited edition LCD poster (below) and a copy of the CD. Just email me at paul [at] [...]

Loving this track lately - it's the solo project of Kele Okereke from Bloc Party , of course, and this song was produced by XXXChange.

The first Whitest Boy Alive album, Dreams , was released in 2006, and I was pretty into it - "Above You" was my jam, and the fact that Erlend Øye of Kings of Convenience was the frontman was pretty good reason to keep interest. However, their second album, Rules , came out last year and for some godawful reason, I didn't even notice? Note to whoever was the online PR for the album: hound me more next year, I don't pay enough attention to my emails and the hundreds [...]
