i'm very excited for the next three weeks because i've got a bit of a singer-songwriter concert trifecta: andrew bird tomorrow 9/21 , m. ward 9/28 , and sufjan stevens 10/9 . the only way i think that could possibly be any better is if somehow jeff tweedy was involved. and if all the shows were at the john anson ford amphitheatre . but i'll take what i can get, and this promises to be a LOT. first up is andrew bird, who i became aware of only last year when his [...]
unfortunately i'm a little late for this idea, as i know a few other blogs have done it already. but hey, i think having a blog named for a line in another michel gondry movie gives me a little authority right? so anyway, michel gondry's new movie the science of sleep is getting limited release this friday and i could not be happier. this will be his third feature-length flick, after 2001's human nature and my favorite movie, 2004's eternal sunshine of the [...]
it's been a few days, but i'm back. back with a new toy--a nice shiny new macbook. woo hoo! i've been spending all my time the past few days getting it all set up and haven't had a chance to think about blogging. but today i did add a nice new feature...on the right bar is a cool little player that will play the most recent songs that i have posted on here. you don't have to download anything or leave the site, just press play if there's something you want to hear. of course, if you [...]

so i finally got my wish and was added to the very excellent hype machine (thanks anthony) the other day, providing me with a nice little bump in hits. my listing on the hype machine goes back a little way, but not all the way (mostly because i've removed a lot of those links). so, in light of that, here's an earlier post of mine that hopefully a lot more people will see this time around. it's one that i really liked--short, simple, themed, not to mention some of my favorite songs. (if you're coming from [...]

it's difficult to even know how to start a post on a day like today. the emotions that are stirred up by those two numbers are overwhelming even to me--i cannot imagine what it must be like for those directly affected by the events of that day. maybe it's the blessing of distance from the situation that allows me to feel this way, but i think it's important for us--as americans rightfully touched by a sense of patriotism in the memory of those who have fallen--to remember that there is a difference between pride and hubris. we are blessed to [...]
every so often--once every couple years i'd say--an album comes out that represents everything i love about music. it may not necessarily be the best album, nor even a great album, but it strikes a chord in me in just such a way that it is perfect to me. one of last year's releases by bright eyes , i'm wide awake, it's morning , was one of those albums for me. in many ways, october 2004 to may 2005 was one of the most difficult times of my life. it saw the end [...]
did a major update of my ipod today, including the addition of a bunch of the performances off the coachella dvd that came out earlier this year. i've never been to the coachella valley music and arts festival and honestly i'm not sure if i would mind not ever going, due mostly to the heat and the logistics of the festival concerts. having grown up in indio, i know that heat all too well and would do (or not do, as the case may be) most anything to avoid it. but anyway, the dvd is [...]
so in addition to foo fighters awesomeness the other night, there was also frank black . i wish i was cooler and could impress with my knowledge of the songs he played, but alas, i cannot. at least, however, i can say that i knew it when he played "where is my mind", the pixies song i posted the other day . it sounded good, but i have to say i missed kim deal's part (woooo ooooo). anyway, since i don't know much else about him, i'll have to go off on [...]
part 3 of 3 of rilo kiley 's austin city limits performance. 05 does he love you? 06 i love l.a. 07 interview
apparently i am incapable of going more than a few days without posting something m. ward related...but hey, it's m. ward so that's okay right? the new album drops on tuesday, but in the meantime he made his network television debut last night on the late show with david letterman . good for him, finally some big time exposure. the song was "chinese translation", a great pick to initiate the uninitiated, and one of the guys in his band (i'll have to figure out his name because he was cool) [...]
part 2 of 3 of rilo kiley's performance on austin city limits. 03 ripchord 04 the absence of god
i don't really have much to say about rilo kiley, except that they are freakin awesome! jenny lewis and blake sennett both put out cd's on their own this year, and i consider both among my favorites for the year so far. still waiting on the next rilo kiley album though, which hopefully will be soon. in the meantime, here's the first of three posts of their performance on austin city limits, originally aired on october 8, 2005. 01 pull me tighter 02 [...]
