Blessed are the bands that still release real singles, thereby keeping alive the dying art of the B-side whilst simultaneously driving completists like myself batty. Los Angelinos Batwings Catwings paraded out the noisegasmic Radio single a while back, and now they're handing over the flipside simply as a way of giving back to fans. Early Exit is a synth-heavy neo-new wave workout that presses your nostalgia buttons without turning a cold shoulder to the band's signature serrated attack. Did I mention you can dance to it if you're so inclined? [...]

Lovely Bad Things' re-release of their cassette New Ghost/Old Waves now both on vinyl and available for download, is doing nothing to help the acute jonesin' for summer weather that afflicts all thoroughly soaked, sun-deprived Pacific Nor'westers this time o'year. Believe you me. You can practically smell the coconut scented Coppertone when their dreamy AM radio sounds come wafting through your speakers. With their infectious guitar riffs and wall-of-sound guy-girl harmonies, it's hard to decide whether you should backcomb your hair into a beehive and do the frug, or [...]

The gradual rising of energy and emotion on "Wolves and Owls," which opens Buxton's Nothing Here Seems Strange , reminds me of Spirit, and of (very) vintage Steve Miller, as much as it calls to mind artists who fall into the Alt. Country and/or Folk-Rock categories. That's how it feels when a band's intensely present. And how it feels when a sense of wonder permeates everything: Life isn't taken for granted. Air isn't taken for granted. Pain, joy, fire, and ice are noticed; heralded. A sucker for melody, I hear nothing noteworthily [...]

When MOKB started yabberin' and then MOKB Presents booked and announced Alabama Shakes in Indianapolis this past Fall, there was some head-scratching. Brittany and crew brought the sold-out house down. The music world, for the most part , has [...]

Photo Credit: Patrick Fraser Chains of Love have had our attention for a while. Their combination of 60s garage/psychedelic rock and soul is hard not to pay attention to. If you were to ask the band where they take their sound from, they would drop Gail Harris, Ike & Tina, The Ronnettes, and The Shangri-la's as points of reference. The band released two 73 singles in 2011 and are getting ready to release their debut EP, Strange Grey Days [...]

The aforementioned M.I.A. stole most of the headline's from the entertaining and well-constructed show by flipping the bird and her use of the word shit, giving people with nothing better to worry about something to complain to the FCC about.
