Last night was kind of a blur, but a very good blur at least. I started out at Rothko to catch The Changes from Chicago who I thought were excellent and really lived up to the hype with their live show. Their lead singer wins the award for happiest frontman possibly of all time. Seriously, he just looked so damn happy to be on that stage and that sort of energy tends to be infectious. You can catch them tonight playing an early set (7:30) at Mercury Lounge on a bill with The Everyothers, [...]
since you know, i needed one more thing to be addicted to on the damn internet, I joined flickr. Here is my account or whatever if you want to "friend" me and look at random band/drunken photographs occasionally. Fun.
Watch the video for Annie's single "Heartbeat" (if you read blogs you know this song and have danced around your room to it at lease once, don't lie), in which she does endearing things like eat cake and film balloons and roll around on the floor. Cuuuuuute. My favorite person in the UK, Brian, recently emailed me to tell me about this band he thought I would love called Editors . From Birmingham, they're basically indie goth I'd say or at least the Joy Division/Interpol (I guess those goes hand in hand now) influence is obvious, as well as Echo and the Bunnymen. I've listened to their single, "Munich," about five hundred times today already, so I'm clearly finding it addictive and maybe you will too. Thanks, Brian! Editors - Munich (right click save as)
You know they are one of my favorites and now they have an album release! Could I be more excited? The self titled debut from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will be out soon-ish and they are playing a release show at the Delancey on June 9th. All the mp3s you need are on their site, and you can buy one of their nifty t-shirts also, inexchange for 14 bucks and one of your darkest secrets (more than worth it!). Mine received several (though possibly drug induced) compliments from the 5am pool playing [...]
Tonight there are way too many great shows going on in the city. In fact, that's kind of the case every night this week. I guess that's the upside/downside to living in New York. Tonight there is a great Vicious bill @ Rothko, featuring Chicago band The Changes who I wrote about earlier. They play at 9. Benzos will also be playing their record release show @ Mercury with another band that I love, The Big Sleep . Hopefully I will get to see my good friend [...]

hello it's... Ligers! Ah.. serious amounts of last minute awesomeness at Luna Lounge Friday night, pulled me away from my dinner with a mad dash through the Lower East Side, which left me feeling totally queasy but it was well worth it I think just to here rockness from one of my new york favorites. They played through their entire new album and finished with the triple threat of "in the walls" "jenny" and "my coco." This show and the running and not eating made me too [...]

Billy Corgan to play Webster Hall (courtesy of BrooklynVegan ) Come see me act like a 16 year old at this show. Ok, but I act like that most of the time, I know. Good stuff though, I'm excited! Billy has also continued to write even weirder stuff on his webpage ...

Of the three bands that I saw on Tuesday night, Aqualung was the only one that had seats for their audience, which was entirely appropriate because I was tired and Aqualung make music that is entirely relaxing. Aqualung is the solo project of musician Matt Hales from England who combines his haunting voice with pianos, violins and guitars to create songs that are very simple and emotionally powerful at the same time. A lot of the songs on Tuesday sort of came off sounding very similiar, with the obvious standout being the single "Brighter Than [...]

Despite the fact that it's my hometown, I actually know very little about the Chicago music scene, so I was really excited when an email about a band called The Changes landed in my inbox. Drawing comparisons to bands like the Police and Phoenix, the band produces some irresistably catchy and quite dance-y indie rock (isn't that all the rage these days...).. some say they out did the Kaiser Cheifs on charm and fun when opening for them in Chicago . Well... you can be the judge of that yourself when the band makes at trip out east [...]
Wendys gives out free frosties all weekend . A fun chance for you and the whole family to find more random body parts! Awesome. Spoon plays at Virgin Megastore Union Square today at 6pm. Rob Holmes will be the first in line. Fun with slogans! (can you tell I'm bored today?) Pitchfork wants to make Rivers cry . Bastards (but ok... the album really isn't deserving of the four stars Rob Sheffield gave it either). I'm personally of the opinion that [...]

while i wait for my coachella pictures, read what peter did over the weekend via Spin.com because that's pretty much my story also (though opinions may vary and i thought the Kylie/New Order thing ruled but if you know me, you knew that already...).
here's a new song from Surefire , how appropriate considering my earlier post. get it here , i'm pretty sure the song is called "Hung" but I could be wrong about that. I love it and can't get over how polished and mature they are sounding! yay!

In anticipation with the upcoming release of their FANTASTIC album "Morning Stanzas," Benzos have some events coming up in New York that you should definately try to attend if you have the chance. The album is out this month on Stinky Records Wednesday, May 11th : BENZOS Morning Stanzas Listening Party First Taste Wednesdays @ Hi-Fi. 169 Avenue A, New York, NY. 9pm - 11pm. i haven't mentioned this yet, which is just silly. how exciting is this for Surefire ? I think I went to at least 15 of their shows last year if that is any indication of how much I love this band. and now they are playing at Bowery! so exciting. i will see you there. get your tickets here

We live in a fucking amazing country. And if I never see a car or a rest stop or 4 dollar per gallon gasoline prices ever again, I will be a happy girl. That said, I'm back in NYC. I have tons of stories to tell you, mainly about another fucking amazing turn at the Coachella festival where I got no sleep, drank massive amounts of red bull, saw 283957239587 great bands and had the time of my life. Obviously my love of festivals has started to take over my exhistance... Lollapalooza tickets [...]
we made it!!! HELLO CALIFORNIA! honestly, i don't even have the proper words to describe the fun this trip has been so far, and the fact that Coachella starts tomorrow sort of blows my mind. that's all i really have to say right now, pictures et. al will be forthcoming but right now i have to get ready to head over to party central. i bought pool rafts with cupholders in them and will soon rock out to NIN in the [...]
Austin is amazing. Tex Mex and two dollar drinks and a killer music scene? Why don't I live here?! Maybe this hangover is a bit telling... Anyways, while we are headed to Santa Fe on a glorious 80 degree day, if you're in NYC and want to pick up some eyeliner tips, I suggest you go to this: addVICE presents: Louis XIV after party @ Happy Endings 302 Broome [...]
Greetings from the road (or the heartland, or bumblefuck USA, or whatever you want to call it. I have to say, I'm really enjoying my vacation from blogging. I did get my first traffic ticket today about five minutes after we entered Texas, but I guess that's to be expected. Today we went to Graceland and now I have a strange need to netflix every Elvis movie ever. Suddenly "so cheesy it's cool" has become my personal motto. Maybe that's the result of drinking a four pack of red bull a day and/or spending significant time in the bible belt. [...]
