As much as we've enjoyed our time here on blogspot it's time to close down the house and move on for good. I had left the old posts up on the site so that they could be easily found when searching, but blogspot is just becoming much too hostile of an enviroment for music bloggers. I received another takedown notice and subsequently deleted post today for a a post which no longer any contained any active links, it was purely just my writing and photos. [...]

There's still a few of rough edges to clean up but it's finally up and running. Be sure to change any bookmarks you have to that were pointed to the http://bagofsongs.blogspot.com address to http://bagofsongs.com [...]

Some photos from this past Friday night's all local show at Johnny Brenda's in Philadelphia. It was a packed house from the get go as Bitter Bitter Weeks kicked off the night with an excellent set that focused on the more rock side of their catalog and left the quieter numbers at home this time for a high energy set that recalled at times the southern jangle sound of early REM or Let's Active . Up next was Missing Palmer [...]
Golden Bloom - Doomsday Devices Man oh man the 50+ hour work weeks I've been doing lately have really been hindering the blogging time. Here's one I should have given you some advance warning on but wasn't able to get to until now. TONIGHT ! as in RIGHT NOW ! if you're in New York City get on over to Matchless for the release party of the Doomsday Devices 7" single from Golden Bloom [...]

Don't forget we have a really great show coming up this Sunday November 16th at The M Room in Philadelphia. Up until about a month ago I had never heard of Swift Technique , but after having seen them, how they remain one of Philadelphia's best kept secrets I don't know. Playing a unique blend of horn infused funk, soul and hip hop with a Philly edge, they are one of the tightest bands I have seen in quite a while. Blew me away the first time I saw them, trust me you'll be kicking [...]

Justin Kline hails from Murfreesboro, Tennessee just outside of Nashville. His music is not steel guitar laced country twang Music City is notorious for, but a melodic blend of west coast influenced power pop that falls somewhere between the uniquely California sounding harmonies of The Beach Boys and the indie quirkiness of The Shins . And you'd never guess by the lush sound of the music that Justin plays all of the instruments himself, his Six Songs EP is an impressive debut full of [...]

If Philadelphia is one of the hottest music cities on the east coast right now, with the abundance of amazing bands emanating from Portland, Oregon it surely must be one of the hottest scenes on the west coast. This past Thursday night it was east meets west at Johnny Brenda's in Philadelphia with The Chimeras and Cheers Elephant representing the east and Portland's The Shaky Hands on deck for the west. My apologies to The Chimeras as I arrived too late to see their set which by all accounts was excellent. [...]

[Photo by Evan Wallis] Here's a couple cool things going on in New York City to this weekend. Our friends The Hymns , whose excellent new album Travel In Herds I've been grooving to all summer are playing tonight at The Highline Ballroom as part of the MTV Choose or Lose Tour with Locksley . Check 'em out, say hi, and be sure tell them I sent you. Should be a great time. [...]
Okay, I'm sure you're wondering why there hasn't been as much music here lately. Last week's DMCA takedown was not an incident isolated to BOS, but part of a huge wave of indiscriminate takedowns and post deletions across the blogosphere, many of which seemed to be focused on blogs hosted on Blogspot. You can read about some of the many incidents here: http://songbytoad.com/2008/10/ 23/dont-be-evil/ http://songbytoad.com/2008/10/ 28/email-to-columbia-sony-bmg/ http://thevinylvillain.blogspo t.com/2008/10/dial-999-911-or- whatever-number-is.html http://www17seconds.blogspot.c om/2008/10/grrrstand-up-to-bul lies.html [...]
Philadelphia's going to be a buzzing on election day next week, in addition to being one of the hottest contested states this time around, there's going to be plenty of music action. I told you about the new Illinois music yesterday, today I have a brand new video from Phildelphia's Donuts . It's for their song Guantanamo from their record Jet Ear . It was directed by Mark Schreiber (of Slo-Mo , John Train , The Low Road , etc) and Suzanne Penn [...]
Want to know how not to get your picture in the paper ? Take your first real vacation in about five years on the same week that Philadelphia Weekly decides they need to interview you for a special cover story on blogging for their annual music issue. And, during said vacation, end up being in the middle of the Nevada desert with no cell phone service when they try to call you for a real interview so you have to end up scrobbling together some too short answers to their questions in the middle [...]
My fellow Bucks County musical residents, Illinois have a new album coming next Tuesday, November 4th, a six volume extravaganza called The Adventures of Kid Catastrophe . For the next six months they'll be digitally releasing a chapter a month with a batch of songs and an ccompanying short film put together by Arch from the band and People-Food. Check out the video trailer and this first musical taste. I'm really liking the cool groove of Hang On , it's a bit electronic, a bit funky, and don't miss the vocal solo, good stuff. [...]

Back catching up on a few things today after a week away. If you ever get to Las Vegas I highly recommend the Beatles themed, LOVE Cirque Du Soleil show , it is excellent. A little lighter on the acrobatics than your usual Cirque Du Soleil show but chock full of cool special effects and rare Beatles audio snippets. I had left you all with a nice mix to tide you over for the week while I was away, if you're wondering where it went, well apparently it [...]

Be Sure to head on out to the M Room this coming Sunday for The Bag Of Songs 2nd Anniversary Party co- hosted by my friends from Girl About Town and with four amazing bands. The shimmering pop of The Swimmers ,the legendary Figgs , brand new music from Philadelphia's The Thirteen , and the funk soul workout of Joe Lewis And The Honeybears . It's going to be one hell of a party. The Swimmers - Pocketful Of Gold [...]
