The December installment of the Feel Bad For You Mixtape is up and streaming. The FBFY mixtape has entered a new segment of it’s life moving from a message board tape curated by Ms. Rockstar Aimz , of My Aimz Is True , to a mixtape put together by a collection of (mostly) like minded bloggers. For a complete track listing, who submitted each song and why....click the more link. 1. Title: The Money Goes Artist: The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band Album (year): Between The [...]

(Disclaimer: Here at Nine Bullets we pride ourselves on bringing you the best music first(ish) and we think that we often do but every so often we get scooped. I procrastinated on this review and finally wrote it two weeks ago. I thought I was going to introduce y'all to a new artist then the Grammy's announced their nominees. John Fullbright is nominated for best Americana Album along with The Avett Brothers, Bonnie Rait, & The Lumineers. I'm a little bitter I got scooped by the Grammy's.) I hope you’ve seen the [...]

Those Crosstown Rivals are a band I've been trying to get a piece written about and posted here on the 9b. Arliss Nancy are a band who's well documented round these parts. They're splitting a 73 and it's really good. The first 300 pressings of the 73 will be translucent red with all subsequent pressings being your standard ol' black record. It's new Arliss Nancy so go get you some . Track Listing: Side A: Arliss Nancy - [...]

What a strange week it's been. I needed the time off. I might have needed more but when there is a new Joey Kneiser EP to be streamed...well. As they say, duty calls. I've spent a lot of time the past month or so with Glossary's latest effort, Long Live All Of Us using it's optimism as a crutch when I lacked any. Midnight For The Graveyard Heart doesn't possess the same optimism in spite of the world feel but it doesn't wallow either. Joey sums it up best himself when he said, “I [...]
Those of you who follow the site know my Dad has been sick for a while now. Well. Sunday around 3pm cancer won. I'm gonna take the rest of the week off and decompress. It's been a long year. See you Monday.
I tried three times to write an introduction for this podcast. I wanted to write one of those introductions where you never say anything about what follows. I tried to write about my dog and how he crowds my feet even when he has a rare opportunity to play in a yard off a leash. I tried to write about how winter and snow has arrived here in Colorado and I tried to go make fifty bucks cleaning out a woman's gutters but the gutters were frozen so I drove home. But none of these ideas worked. So here are [...]
It's near the end of the year and many a band is rolling into their hometowns for a few weeks of close to home shows before setting out in the new year. The Have Gun fellas are closing out their year with a few Florida shows including: Celtic Ray's in Punta Gorda on 12/15, Loosey's in Gainesville on 12/21, Crum's in St. Pete on 12/22 and Ella's in Tampa for New Years Eve. As a form of thank you to everyone who made it out to see them this year they released a new video for [...]

Wow. 100 Episodes. Hard to believe when I think back to how nervous I was in those first couple of months. Lots of requests in this week's show as well as a few songs I found via one of my favorite television shows, Sons Of Anarchy. If you're interested, here is the video of Opie cutting off his beard that I talk about during the show. So yeah. Help me celebrate 100 episodes by putting some ears on the archived stream of the show . Below is the playlist for November 29, [...]

I got into a discussion recently with a co-worker who loves The Smashing Pumpkins. He remembered seeing Billy Corgan on stage at The Ritz in Ybor City several years ago. He described his emotional connection to Gish and Siamese Dream . So I recommended he check out the Pumpkins’ newest disc, Oceania . I told him it reminded me of the band pre- Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness , back when it seemed like Corgan was speaking directly to me, whispering confessionals in my ear, through songs like “Today” and “Disarm.” [...]

Chances are if you are at all familiar with Cody ChestnuTT it’s from the same way that I first heard him. His song “The Seed” was used by The Roots on the Phrenology album. He sings on The Roots version and it’s a great and raunchy dance hit. Around the same time he released his first album, The Headphone Masterpiece . Maybe I heard so much about this album because I was living in Georgia, where ChestnuTT is from, but it seemed to be hyped everywhere. I listened to it several times but never could [...]

"This should be played at high volume. Preferably ... in a residential area" That quote comes from “ Lyrical Gangbang ” on the b-side of Dr. Dre’s classic album, The Chronic . It also could have served as my contribution to a one sentence review of Discount Guns’ debut album. Discount Guns come out of Louisville, Kentucky. I assume they don’t have Google in Louisville ‘cause, outside of Glossary, I can’t think of a worse band name for Google searching. That said, their poor SEO naming skills are the last time [...]

I have been a fan of rockabilly for a very, very long time. While I don’t roll around every day dressed like a character from The Wild One, I've got my rockabilly tattoos, I settle for no less than 4” cuffs, and I still pomp my hair on occasion. I've seen bands come and go and, to be perfectly honest, it is has been a good amount of time since I've actually been excited about a new artist in this genre. It’s hard to bring something unique to the table in a genre that has been around [...]

Well. We shut down turkey day with a Thanksgiving episode of Ninebullets Radio. We weren't playing any of that Alice's Restaurant shit either. Nope. Instead we played brand new Two Cow Garage. We also threw in a little locals set as a thanks for making the musical life in my town better week in and week out. So put some ears on the archived stream of the show . Below is the playlist for November 22, 2012 [Artist - Song (Album)] 01. Alabama Shakes - Heavy Chevy (Boys & Girls) [...]
Two Cow Garage has put together a 45 containing 2 brand new songs for Record Store Day's Black Friday Sale. I don't think too much more needs to be said. New Two Cow. We're all gonna buy it. Right. RIGHT? That's right...I thought so. This EP will be limited to 400 pressing are there will be no reissues afterwards. It will be released by Last Chance Records and will be available at participating record stores on Friday, November 23. However, if you can't find it at a store near you, Last Chance [...]

"Anyone who has not heard her does not know the power of song. There is no one but is carried away by her singing, a tribute all the greater as we are not in general a music-loving race." ~ Franz Kafka, 1924 On his deathbed at the age of 40, Franz Kafka wrote a story called " Josephine the Singer, or the Mouse Folk ." It's terrifying because you can see Kafka change before your eyes from someone who had been as good as dead since his diagnosis with tuberculosis seven years before, someone who was fine with [...]
Since Alejandro Escovedo formed the San Francisco punk band The Nuns in the late 702s, he has spent very little time not kicking ass as a guitarist and songwriter. Based out of Austin, TX for the past 30 years, Escovedo's bands and solo albums have set the bar for heartland and southwestern rock; however, his constantly evolving sound eschews genre limitations. I mentioned Escovedo in an article a few months ago as one of the best live shows I'd seen-and lo! his publicity team reached out to us at Ninebullets for an interview as Escovedo toured [...]

Kind of busy here at work today so I don't have anytime to write anything too creative and snappy here. That said, if brand new Browan Lollar, Doc Dailey, Kill County, Sturgill Simpson and American Aquarium sounds like your cup of tea put some ears on the archived stream of the show . Below is the playlist for November 15, 2012 [Artist - Song (Album)] 01. Lucero - Nobody's Darlings (Nobody's Darlings) 02. Browan Lollar - Freight Train Hearts (For The Givers And The Takers) [...]

It took an amazing artist for me to ask Autopsy IV if I could write my first guest post after six years of visiting 9b. In August of this year, I compiled a list of my top five artists to see live that I’ve never seen live. This is my list in priority order: 1. The Weight 2. Joshua Black Wilkins 3. J Roddy Walston 4. William Elliott Whitmore 5. The Fox Hunt In September, I was able to see William Elliott Whitmore . And, after this weekend [...]

So you might not know this but I am a huge nerd, not just a music nerd either, and write for another website where I inflict my opinion about comic books and graphic novels upon the world. I wrote about this really cool graphic novel (I also read the monthly comic as well) The Li'l Depressed Boy - Lonely Heart Blues way back in April. Whilst opining on it I had the spark of an idea that would eventually grow in to this little post. Honestly The Li'l Depressed Boy is sort of cheating, as evidenced by this [...]
