It's hump day so how about a profile on another great band that I love and you should already know about. The Go! Team, from Brighton, are a great band who released one of the better debut albums in recent memory last year. Due to the band's clever use of sampling on just about every song on the album, they struggled to get the samples cleared for the North American release of Thunder, Lightning, Strike, and as a result it came out a year after it was originally released in their homeland. It ended up getting [...]
There are few folk heros in todays music scene who's reputation lives up to that of Jason Molina. As the front man of Songs: Radix, Songs: Unitas, Songs: Albio, Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Company, and as a solo artist, he has delivered a sprawling collection of timeless and soulfull songs. He's playing on Dec. 9 at St. Matthew's Church in Halifax and we decided to throw the cultural mega-force of That's Fucking Dynamite behind the show and speak to this up and comer. If you haven't heard Molina before, we've also pillaged a few live solo tracks [...]

It's the beginning of December and I'm feeling kinda merry. Today I'm gonna give you two great early Christmas presents. On top of that, I'm not gonna ramble on at all, and I'll keep today's post short and sweet. Don't get too excited though, I'll be back with another longwinded random observation on life later this week. 1. Today we introduce the first official TFD contest, and as it is almost Christmas time, we'll give it a Christmas theme. Just head over to the Sufjan Stevens Christmas Contest page in the feature section on the right side of [...]
Braveheart was a piece of shit. I know that it's essentially part of a holy trinity for res/frat guys along with cheap draft and internet porn, but that movie made Dungeons and Dragons look like a masterfully crafted epic. The movie's director/star Mel Gibson recently has gotten less than flattering press for some intoxicated anti-semitic comments he made. Now, check out this statement in which he lends his support to Michael "KKKramer" Richards, who has found himself in a similar situation: ""I felt like sending Michael Richards a note. I feel really badly for the guy. He was obviously in a state of stress. You don't [...]
The Raveonettes are a fucking dynamite, twangy, surf-punk rock band from Denmark. They broke onto the scene in 2002 in North America draped in black leather with the release of an EP, and followed it up in 2003 with their debut album, Chain Gang Of Love (which by the way, was recorded entirely in B-Flat Major). The album was a critically acclaimed collection of fuzzed out songs about girls, boys, sex with girls, sex with boys, and prostitution. Following in the footsteps of noise-pop Gods the Jesus & Mary Chain , and [...]

I was downtown a few months ago when I stumbled upon someone screaming out an offkey version of James Brown's "I Feel Good." It's probably something most people have done once or twice in their life except for two things, he was on a stage and people seemed to really enjoy it. After the song ended, the rest of the singer's band returned to the stage and I found out it was part of a Windom Earle show. As the band's set went on, things got stranger and stranger. Their music, which roughly sounds like M83 scoring [...]

There's nothing good in movie theatres these days. I don't need to go see Denzel overacting in another stupid movie, so Deja Vu is not gonna happen, and I won't go see Bobby because Lindsay Lohan is in it. I am going to try to avoid all things Lohan for the rest of my life. I'm sure it won't really have an effect on her bank account, but not seeing her ugliness brutal acting and "unintentional" crotch shots will help me sleep much better at night. So the obvious choice [...]

I remember living in Toronto when Broken Social Scene's You Forgot it in People came out. It was the type of album that seemed to leak into the air. People were talking about it all over the city. Conversations with any music fan would invitably bend towards singing its praises. My roomate at the time brought it home soon after the hype started, and we were both blown away. It sounded like indie rock fiberboard...tiny pieces of bigger things tightly packed together and compressed until they took shape. It wasn't until later that [...]

TFD has been flawless again this week as usual, but there was a lot of other stuff going on in the world that just disgusted me. The week that we find out that Britney Spears is a bisexual should be a week of celebration, not a week of confusion and disarray. Kramer made it uncomfortable for me to watch my favourite TV show 5 times a day anymore. The big angry lesbian Rosie O'Donnell lashed out at hottie-bulimic Kelly Ripa for making a homophobic comment about a closeted Clay Aiken. Tenacious D has a new movie coming out. Heidi Klum had another baby [...]
I have watched the shit out of this video. It really may be the funniest thing mankind has ever played a part in...with Blazing Saddles and the episode of Fresh Prince when Will and his date get stuck in the basement coming in a close second and third. Take a look for yourself and then we'll analyze: Points of note: 1) The victim calls "stop" and then continues to try [...]

2007 is going to be a very big year for Interpol . They are currently in the studio recording their 3rd album, and their first for a major label, Capitol Records. You never know what to expect from a band that makes the switch from an Indie to a Major. Are they going to have as much creative control as they did before? Are they going to go insane spending the massive amounts of cash they are now exposed to? Are they going to try and sell out as much as they can so they can live [...]
