A.M. are one of those stumble upon MySpace maze discoveries. Following a line of links for the bands playing with The Muslims at Pehrspace this Friday (who I posted about below), I was greated with the awsomeness that is A.M. I'm not sure how long A.M. have been around but from reading a few of the comments on their page, it would seem that the songs that they have available on their page are pretty new. Really this doesn't sound like your typical OC band, just listening to them you might guess that they were from Long [...]

"We don't know what the fuck we're doing. And that's why it sounds like The Velvet Underground. Because it has chords and my guitar is trebly. We like the E chord. It's simple" says The Muslims lead guitarist Matty McLoughlin in a recent SD City Beat article. I thought this was great, it's like fuck all this over postulating that journalists, critics, bloggers, and arm chair quarterback do, it's just rock n roll and it sounds this way because the band is young and haven't mastered their instruments yet. It's the purest form [...]

There is no shotage of books about The Clash and Joe Strummer rehashing the same stories book after book, but hopefully within the 640 pages of Chris Salewicz's new Strummer biography, Redemption Song: The Ballad of Joe Strummer , we get treated to some new stories and insight into the man that is to many of this generation what Lennon and Guthrie were to our parents and grandparents gereration. I just picked Redemption Song this weekend, but haven't started to dig into yet as I am saving it for my upcoming vacation. What I am [...]

I've listened to the song, "Can You Dig It", quite a few times today, it's a real sticker, which seems to be the general consensus around the web. Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies [according to them] are the sunbeam sugarplum sound you've been waiting for. If you ask them if they can dig it, they will tell you that they can. If you ask them if they they like to wear kneesocks, they will tell you that they do. With every handclap, you will feel a rainbow and unicorn jump out of [...]

These aren't new interviews, they are from last year, but I just got done listening to them, and think they are pretty good, Svenonius and Mackaye definitely march to the beat of their own drummer. I doubt many of you West Coasters are aware of this particular DC radio show, Dissonance on Radio CPR 97.5 FM. Each episode features a different guest from the DC punk community who serves as guest DJ, picking the show's playlist and answering questions. All shows are available via podcast. Get 'em here .

Did anyone see this last night? I couldn't find any video of it on YouTube this morning, but I'm sure it will pop up soon enough, if not, it airs again today at 2:30pm. All I got to say is "How fucking lame!" Paul get your shit together, you haven't written a good song in ages, you married and are now divorcing (and getting you ass kicked in the process) that crazy one-legged chick, and now you're selling your shit on HSN. Seriously I didn't want to say it, but John, George, [...]

Wow, somehow my three day holiday weekend turned into a five day vacation from this blog, which has resulted in this tardy and abbreviated This Week In Shows post. Wednesday, May 30th: Electric Soft Parade @ Spaceland I really don't know much about Electric Soft Parade, but the track below is pretty good. Look out for Scott (IAF reviewer) there tonight, someone offer him a new job. Electric Soft Parade - If That's The Case ( mp3 ) [...]
