Japanese experimentalist Otomo Yoshihide's collaboration with former Ground Zero member Sachiko M (she apparently is into sine waves) under their moniker Filament (see japanimprov.com for more info) has been rereleased nearly ten years later. Like it or hate it, it is a bit disarming and I must agree with the promoter's description, it does indeed challenge the definition of music. It will definitely make you acutely aware of the natural sounds around you. Try it with your eyes closed and turned up. Expect the dance remix soon. Filament "Filament 1-9" [...]

Sorry about the wait, there was a computer mishap, a lot of repeat work, then blogspot went down, but it's just a flesh wound! To make it up and give stragglers a chance, Part 2 will be posted sometime after 12:01AM CST (1AM EST, 6AM GMT) Feb. 5 , then every odd number day, i.e. Part 3 in the early morning of the 7th, etc. Again, this first one will be so easy you don't even have to leave this page. [...]

Excited yet? I am, and I've already heard the whole show! Local boy DJ Jester (left) opened the show, he had also opened for Of Montreal when I saw them last in Austin, he's kickass. His set started off with a nice short mix of Neutral Milk Hotel's "King Of Carrot Flower" . He did better with "All My Exes" the last time I heard him, but I especially like the "Fraggle Rock" > "Word Up" mix in this one. Download the whole set below. And just [...]
Alright folks, here's a primer to show you how easy the Game Of Of Montreal is. Q: What is the name of Kevin Barnes's alter ego? A: Georgie _______. The answer is three posts down if you don't know it already. Now copy the below link into your address bar and use the clue to replace the blanks. Oh yeah, hit enter. http://libsyn.com/static/funer alpudding/___.html So this post'll hit all the mp3 aggregators and make sure fans know about the game, [...]
Pitchfork has a review and some really good pics of the San Antonio show here . And here's another little tease: Of Montreal - soundcheck sample (SA '07)
As you can see from the mp3s in the post below, this is high quality stuff, folks. The Game will not be hard, and even non-rabid fans who are just willing to spend an extra minute looking at Of Montreal stuff on the internet will be able to play and download the entire show. The Of Montreal interview will be published soon... an extra mp3 and Kevin's interview can be found here: http://www.e6townhall.com/view thread.php?tid=8109
I had to just get something out quickly. Hopefully by tomorrow evening I will have transcribed interviews with Kevin, BP, and Jamey, give me a day or two for that. I don't have pictures of the show, but eventually a killer video will be made. I still need to compare this analog source to the digital and it'll be at least a week before the whole show is ready, but after listening to it, I just have to spoil it with this highlight, Kevin Barnes's alter ego Georgie Fruit finally owning up to being the bastard son of Ziggy Stardust. [...]
I had to just get something out quickly. Hopefully by tomorrow evening I will have transcribed interviews with Kevin, BP, and Jamey, give me a day or two for that. I've got to cook dinner after this and then it's Prison Break and 24 (why, NBC, must you put Heroes there, you heartless bastards) . I don't have pictures of the show, but eventually a killer video will be made. I still need to compare this analog source to the digital and it'll be at least a week before the whole show is ready, but after listening to it, I [...]
As you may have read in the previous post, Of Montreal have released brand new EP, called "Icons, Abstract Thee" . It is available only from the band on tour or through Polyvinyl , which also has a special price for the EP bundled with the new album , "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer". This is the first song on the EP, a marked departure from Of Montreal's more glam-ish current sound, this one even features a squeezebox. Of Montreal "Du Og [...]

I don't quite know what to say about Of Montreal , or their new album, I am both in love and lust with them. I normally hate statements like this, but seriously: I really don't see another album coming along this year better than this one, it's going to be #1 (Last year was Hot Chip, listenable again and again, then Belle & Sebastian's best yet, then some alt- country niceness from Scattered Pages... there, that's overwith). Of Montreal have gone from the quirky little band with the nutso-chord-change songs to full-fledged electronic synth-pop powerhouse, although still with [...]

I don't believe this is officially an mp3 blog until I post some Shins. The Shins' third comes out in about three weeks. It'll be everywhere, and more people not normally clued-in to "alt" music will be listening to it, and other people will rag on it. It's probably the most different of the three, somebody bought some vibes, and the delay in putting it out is evident in how much production there is. There's still a lot of the familiar James Mercer vocal phrasings, although this time over a bit trippier, more expansive music, and I [...]

Here's a gem. Super rare Joy Division, never recorded in studio, not on the "Heart & Soul" box set, and one of their more rockin songs. I met a guy a few months ago who told me he hated Joy Division. I tried to politely explain that perhaps a bit of true angst was necessary in your soul to truly appreciate it. What I should have said was this: "You're fuckin stupid." Joy Division "At A Later Day"
Worth a repeat listen. The Sixth Great Lake "Always After Christmas, Boring"

I have a good mind to turnin' this here blog into mostly a live music thing. Torrents and bootlegs have taken over my life almost completely. And sorry it's a day late of a once-a-week rate for posting, but I've been burning and photoshopping some stocking stuffers like this on a shirt for my sister-in-law: So, lately I have been burning a lot of live country and reconfiguring the back of Andrew Ridgley's hair. One of [...]
Boyee, I ain't but hardly even done been born yet, and the first mp3 from a label comes streaming into my inbox like Columbus into the Caribbean, completely unaware of its status as seed of indescribable power, mwahaha. To be honest, I probably would have put it up as long as it didn't sound like caca, but I was pleasantly surprised. Swooning and breezy, for some reason this song puts imagery in my head of driving medium-fast through city streets on a cold overcast day. I wonder if these guys from Vancouver have any idea how lame their namesake city [...]

Since I've started torrenting, my CD collection has exploded, mostly pristine live recordings I never imagined I'd own. The premier live music torrent site has got to be Dime A Dozen . Tapers and bootleggers old and new are crawling out of the woodwork and posting their stuff there. If you've got a high-speed connection, you need to get BitTorrent , and have patience enough to get an account at Dime (capped at 100,000, always booting those who can't share). I've been downloading a few things for stocking stuffers and decided this would be the perfect time to [...]

First, a word to other bloggers / podcasters: Steve Albini wrote a famous piece on the problem with the music industry, basically crawling through a long pit of caca. That's how I feel after looking for a new file host for the mp3s on this blog. I was going to try and stay all-free and was going with fileden.com, which has now been unaccessible for several days, delaying the two of my one-two punch. I won't often hawk products or services, usually nothing but music, but let me throw a big shout out to Liberated Syndication . [...]

Well, the first post, and boy-o-eee it's a doozie! A big mix of Christmas tunes delivered to you by a heathen, complete with a fancy cover. I tried to find a still of the scene where Billy Bob tells the big saleslady that, well, her pipes ain't gonna be working right down below, but oh well. I actually did an award-winning story in high school (well over a decade ago now) about a Santa fired from his job, getting drunk, scratching some records, and then blowing up Macy's. Of course, I could have fleshed it out into a screenplay if [...]
