50 Cent Fired Up About Guns

50 Cent Fired Up About Guns 50 Cent is hot about no one complaining about movie posters for "Casino Royale" and "Mr. And Mrs. Smith" that contain characters holding guns. When 50's "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" came out, people protested his holding a gun on posters for the film, but now, critics remain strangely silent. I'm going to have to go ahead and, ummmm, agree with 50 there. Source: School of Hip-Hop

Concert Review: Deftones with Deadsy - 9:30 Club, December 4, 2006

Concert Review: Deftones with Deadsy - 9:30 Club, December 4, 2006 Three out of five stars. On this cold night in December, the Deftones decided to round out their fall tour in support of Saturday Night Wrist with their DC area fans, and did so with the support of glam-goth rock group Deadsy , who also participated in this summer's Family Values Tour with Korn and the Deftones. As the lights went down, an ominous tune from "A Clockwork Orange" came forth, and Deadsy took the stage with matching black military shirts and complementing makeup. Stage presence was solid, with lots of [...]

Jam Cruise '07 Posts Schedule, Pamela Anderson & Kid Rock Splitsville

Jam Cruise '07 Posts Schedule, Pamela Anderson & Kid Rock Splitsville Duuuuuuude, Jam Cruise 5 is already sold out. Leaving Fort Lauderdale on January 2 and returning on January 7, it is 5 days of solid jamming. Too bad we can't go, my friends, as we were too apathetic to buy tickets. Now we miss the Guitar Hero competition. And I was just reading in GQ this morning about Pam & Kid's fabulous marriage, and TMZ reports that divorce papers have been filed. Bye bye, love.

Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus 3 - Ole! Tarantula

Chances are, Robyn Hitchcock has been rocking since before you were born (or at least, before you knew that there was more to music than Fraggle Rock). Hitchcock, a psychedelic legend, has been...

Thursday - A City By The Light Divided

2.5 out of 5 stars. The band's second release on Island Records, A City By The Light Divided is more lo-fi than their Victory Records work. Singer Geoff Rickly has suddenly started singing more often than screaming (significantly obvious in "Sugar In The Sacrament") but the bang-crash of the drums and the fuzzy distortion of the guitars make it near-impossible to really appreciate the turn he's taken. It seems an effort to bring the music to the same focal level as the vocals, to add to the aural topography, but is at times quite [...]

Citizen Cope - Every Waking Moment

3 out of 5 stars. Clarence Greenwood, AKA Citizen Cope , since leaving the DC hip-hop scene (his former group was Basehead, worth checking out), has reached out on his own, now on his third solo release. Cope's vocals are very muddled, without enunciation, particularly noticeable on the album's deepest cut, "107 Degrees." This smoky, sensual track conjures the ambience of the previous album, with some heavy keyboard and the best sound from Citizen Cope on the record. Some might consider such vocal porridge to be Dylan-esque, but it's more [...]

Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds

3.5 out of 5 stars. Justin Timberlake successfully escaped the boy-band downturn and came out a bigger star than he was in 'NSync. His last album, Justified , was one of the most entertaining albums of 2002, not to mention a very sophisiticated R&B record. So when this album came out last week, in the midst of a new single that's been scorching radiowaves all summer, I was pretty eager to see what else Justin had to offer. The album opens with another synthed-up Timbaland beat, then thumps its way into SexyBack, Justin's proclamation [...]
