Got a 7" from The Living Kills on my doorstep yesterday. A four-piece band from Brooklyn playing spaced out 60's/70's psych rock that reminds me of some Yo La Tengo playing Velvet Underground. Good stuff.

When I first saw the trailer for The Vicious Kind , I really didn't know what to expect. I felt like it was going to be a story about relationships with a dark comedy spin. Tomorrow marks the date that 7 years ago music lost one of its most cherished performers. Joe Strummer, former The Clash and The Mescaleros frontman, was a man of many good deeds and talents and was taken away to soon. The charity Stummerville was set up to honor him and to create a foundation that could provide better access to all things musically for those that couldn't get it. Rocksellout's favorite political rapper Sole has just released his first mix tape titled Nuclear Winter which includes some unlikely pairings. This release is going to be the first of what Sole says is the first of many coming out in the near future. I got a hand made demo a few weeks ago from a Mr. Oberhofer along with an email of some tracks. Right away I was drawn in by the sounds. I always hate posted about this band because they keep tease me with shows and reunion dates, and not actually coming out and saying "we getting back together and making another record". This band was just hitting their prime when they decided to quit and the music world has been missing a small piece ever since. Railcars reminds me of what it would sound like in a sleepy carnival. Opening with a fuzzy carousel trip that hints of bands like Parenthetical Girls or Xiu Xiu who's Jamie Stewart produced the EP "Cities vs Submarines". "Cathedral With No Eyes" appears to be a concept album about the life of "Edmund the Martyr, a 9th century king". I can understand that not everyone will enjoy this.
