Anybody remember Testicles? Well a few years back that band seemed to be the next big thing, but things went bad and the band split up. Former member Devonte Haynes seems to be the only one of that group that is making an impact. With last years release of Falling off the Lavender Bridge , Haynes went into a totally different direction then Testicles and constructed a record that focused more on his songwriting. You really can't top a 8 minute plus song about wet dreams. So Lightspeed is back and coming Febuary 1st his new record [...]

The instrumental post rock genre seems to be flooded these days with bands trying to stand apart from another, some to avail, some to be put in the mix of all the others. Myself being a huge intrumental rock/metal/jazz fan, find myself overflowing with choices and new bands to check out. So I came across We Vs. Death that can fit into this same mold. I'll be honest haven't heard anything till I a random search and thought it would be worthy of letting our readers know about. The Dutch band is put into this same instrumental post [...]

Glaciers Debut LP " And The Sea Won The Battle" was waiting for me on my door step when I got home from work yesterday. "And The Sea Won The Battle" is full of sonic textures and crashing atmospheres with just the right amount of down time as well as taking the crescendo all the way to space before it breaks into blasting rocket engines. They also find a good groove and jam it out until the amps bleed. Although not the most original sound I see can where Glaciers might lose points for sounding alot like their predecessors [...]

Hi Andrea, I'm in a Minneapolis-based group called Aaron & The Sea. I realize that you're listed as the Canada contact on Rock Sellout however, I read your write-up on that group Digits and really appreciated its honesty. Anyway we just recently released our first record and I'd love it if you gave it a listen. Tear it apart. Whatever you like. I'm interested. Attached you'll find a couple of our songs, but the album is also downloadable (free) at aaronandthesea.com . Thanks much, [...]

Let me start off by saying every time Katatonia puts out an album, I immediately start waiting on the next one. This band has been sadly over looked in the US for far too long. I do hope this changes in the near future. This might be the album to do it! On November 10, in the US, Katatonia are slated to release their eighth studio album, Night is the New Day. The album was released today in the UK/Europe. The album has already received glowing reviews, and this one will be no different. [...]

Hesitation Wounds is out on Sleep's new home Strange Famous . A big step for Sleep and a huge win for a great label with a tight roster.(2MEX,Buck 65,Cecil Otter, Sage Francis!) To be honest I didn't have any doubt Sleep would release another solid album. Continuing where Christopher left off Hesitation Wounds shows an advancing Sleep getting faster without losing any meaning. All substance and no filler. You're not going to hear the same repeating line "You're a jerk" a million times. With Live instrumentation [...]

Dark Young Hearts is the debut album from frYars (Ben Garrett), a young Londoner with a promising future. The album offers a diverse blend of both genres and themes from alternative, pop and the darker side of electro. Although some might assume that an album attempting so much by someone so young may not deliver all it promises, thankfully frYars has created an album with depth that is both refreshing and rewarding. The album was produced by Luke Smith(ex Clor ) and features guests from Paul Butler( The Bees ) and Dave Gahan( Depeche Mode ). FrYars is [...]

pictured above: a misdemeanor ( photo credit ) I always stop to look at the posters for upcoming events that are on telephone poles. When I went to the record store a couple of weeks ago I saw a poster for The Sounds. 'The Sounds!' I thought, 'I used to love them. Maybe I should go to this and review it'. After about five minutes of deliberation I decided against it because I only really liked their first album, Living in America , and I didn't want to be one of those [...]

It's not often I get to come home to find a Total Babe waiting for me. But today was an exception. Thankfully, the nice people over at So TM sent me a new EP by Minneapolis Indie Pop band Total Babe and I haven't been able to stop listening to it since. The band formed when lead singer/guitar Clara Salyer was given the opportunity to open for Red Pens . So Clara brought in two friends to perform alongside, Lizzie who plays the Viola and Jordan on Guitar. Tim the percussionist joined a few month [...]

Please help friends of the site Russian Circles find their guitar. STOLEN GUITAR: Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway Pro Custom Shop, BLACK Last night, October 28th after a show in the Cincinnati, Covington Kentucky area at The Mad Hatter, one of my guitars was stolen off stage during load out. The guitar is exactly the same as seen in the photos but has a black finish. As the guitar is quite rare, it has significant street and sentimental value. Any information would be greatly appreciated. An eye witness confirms that an individual named Tim Carr was [...]

The first time I heard Jesse Sykes was on the Sunn O)))/Boris split album Altar . She contributed to a track on that album called "The Sinking Belle (Blue Sheep)" I was immediately struck by her voice and her lyrics, but for one reason or another, I didn't pursue any of her solo work. The other day, a friend of mine loaned me a copy of her last release, Like, Love, Lust & The Open Halls of the Soul . I immediately fell in love with this record and have [...]

Pelican has officially broken the mold on this album. "What We All Come To Need" is an exploration of sound and a definition of no one standing above the other. The playing is super tight and spacey, bringing back the sound that Thrill Jockey bands brought in the 90's. You know, back when being instrumental wasn't hip but an exploration of sound and composition. "Ephemeral" starts like a score to a Robert Rodriguez film about hunting the dead. It brings sense of urgency and taste of post metal that is to be bitten in to, by the [...]

I know, I know, Pitchfork got it up first, but some of us have real jobs. Anyway, the amazing duo of DOOM and Madlib are back at it again with their Madvillian project and look to build off the breakthrough debut Madvillianly. Not much details except for Madlib producing with possible help from Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio. Also Mos Def has been confirmed to contribute to the record and as of yet no release date has been set, but we can look forward to it coming out on the great Stones Throw record [...]
Them Crooked Vultures will be dropping their first full length on Nov 17th. The band consists of Josh Homme (QOTSA), John Paul Jones (Led Zepplin) and Dave Grohl (Nirvana), basically the band is a dream team of epic proportions. The new single " New Fang" is out for your listening pleasure. It seems like they are taking the jam approach to this album. Check out the single below and you can buy it through any digital distro channels.
I got the pleasure of going to a Steve Albini lecture years ago that was pretty awesome. Steve was was pretty down to earth and he even went as far as comparing our local paper to the Onion. Which is pretty acurate. I am glad to be able to finally share this with everyone. Thanks Jason for sharing!

We had a website meeting at La Siesta and discussed how we wanted to handle record reviews. We came to the conclusion that we are too positive. So I am taking the leap but only by accident. I tried to like this album but I am going to be honest this is the biggest pile of garbage I have ever heard. I know there will be some push back on this but I tried to be as honest as if it were me and some friends listening to it for the first time. If you don't like what is said [...]

I was recently granted an interview with A Place to Bury Strangers vocalist and guitarist, Oliver Ackermann. He graciously took some time out of his busy schedule to discuss the band's touring history, new record Exploding Head , and vinyl pressing craziness. The aforementioned new album further expands on APTBS' history of noise drenched, shoegaze, guitar freakouts. It's an excellent sophomore release and definitely takes the songwriting to a new level for the band. The album is a touch more user friendly than the last album, but it most definitely as interesting. We, at Rocksellout, [...]
Hey everybody lets get all dressed up and go to a surf show. I don't think I have ever been to a surf show, but I bet there fun as hell. Anyway, The Good The Bad are a band from Denmark that are making their mark on bringing surf/flemenco music back to it's hay days, but with a new school flare. Anybody a fan of Tarantino soundtracks and the Eagles of Death Metal would really dig this band. No vocals because "we couldn't find anyone that would stand behind the drummer". Looking forward to hearing more of this [...]
