Loving this new tune from LA band TV Girl off their self-released EP titled Lonely Women . “She Smokes In Bed” ( according to Connor at the always reliable IGIF ) "continues their hot streak of syrupy-sweet, ghetto-tech indie-pop jams laced with brilliantly sardonic lyrics". Oh so smooth! Glass Animals new single “Black Mambo” dabbles with eerie R&B and electro-pop textures, offering up an absolutely effortless vocal by Dave Bayley. This single will be featured on their upcoming double A-side which will be on ‘super-big-producer’ Paul Epworth’s new label called Wolf Tone and set for a June release. The Scottish electronic duo Boards of Canada have a thing for mystery and progressive reveals. After hinting at the new album in numerous ways across the globe (which included a surprise screening of a promotional video in Tokyo and the discovery of pieces of a 12" in New York and London, among others), BoC just released the video for the first single. It is simply beautiful. I felt a dozen different things watching it and every time I hit replay I get a new kind of goosebumps... The new album, "Tomorrow's Harvest" is due on Monday, [...]

Following up his 2012 release of Last Words , Canadian producer, Ryan Hemsworth , drops his newest EP, Still Awake , today which is available for a free download from his Soundcloud page . The post Still Awake appeared first on Indie Music Filter .
"Start At The Beginning" by Among Savages , from The Wanderings Of An Illustrative Mind . The debut album from Peter Barbee, opens with “Start at the Beginning,” where a haunting cello ushers in a string section as Barbee’s androgynous voice coos through waves of reverb over electric guitar. Raised in the foothills of Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, Barbee relocated to Nashville at 17 and embedded himself in its music scene. Wanderings of an Illustrative Mind features cinematic pop underpinned by rich, symphonic layers. Good stuff. AMONG SAVAGES - "Start at [...]

A fascinating magnetism is surrounding the band Still Parade at the moment. In a time so dependant on and obsessed with defining a creative-identity to ensure you’re the “red” in a sea of black and white - it’s refreshing that their music is the only thing we know about them. Following along the same grain, “Actors” allows you to momentary unplug and take a much-needed pause from your day, letting the soothing vocals and electro infused folk sounds speak loudly for them. It grabs your hand, pulls you in and makes you listen undistracted. The video [...]

I'm loving the debut EP ("Northern Lights") from Kate Boy , the group comprised of Australian singer-songwriter Kate Akhurst (vocals) and Swedish musicians Hampus Nordgren, Oskar Engström, and Markus Dextegen. The title track from the EP turned a lot of heads, now “In Your Eyes” is taking over (video below). Don't those two songs alone make you want to see this band? Here's how to get in. LIVENATION presents: KATE BOY SUNDAY, JUNE 9, 2013 WRONGBAR – TORONTO Doors: [...]

Being born in a country that birthed the Kwaito genre, it surely comes as no surprise that it's Benin City 's latest "Faithless" track tweaking my inner little ear-worm and that niggling familiarity button. It's an auditory feast that charges through different genre's by folding and layering them into one another. From the first introductory set of Indie chords, we're then gifted with some seriously hard hitting electro, bass and drum elevations that could easily spur an anthem-esque crowd chant. It is completely exciting for a new band to be pushing themselves at such an introductory stage. The Londonders [...]

"Disappear", the swelling and soulful ballad from Mikky Ekko is the new self-produced track which he has dubbed as a "ruff demo" offering. Nay! This surely sounds like his best work yet and in my mind, he won't be disappearing anytime soon... The post Mikky Ekko: Disappear (ruff demo) appeared first on Indie Music Filter .

I missed the episode of New Girl in which this song "Until We Get There" by Lucius was placed in, but started seeing the song pop up on the blogs a week ago. Stunning track (actually demo), which will be on the bands' album this fall. Click here to sign up for the bands' newsletter and download the demo version of the song. If you're not feeling appropriately "Tuesday" yet, here's Bear Mountain 's track "Congo" from their new album XO . An infectious tune lathered with synthy chords, live instruments, syncopated bass lines and strong vocals. If that just scrapes the surface then go on and visit this page and listen to the other beat-upper "Two Step". The post Bear Mountain appeared first on Indie Music Filter .

What are you listening to ? My family are big music fans, so I've grown up with great music. This means I have a really eclectic taste. At the moment I'm in the middle of writing a movie, so I've been listening to a lot of Krzysztof Penderecki and Pino Donaggio (turn off all the lights, wack the volume up and scare yourself to death). I've also really been getting into Rodriguez , Blessa , Findlay and Harrison . I love Random Impulse , too. I [...]

I've given some lovings to the Sydney treat Jagwar Ma before, but now they've decided to return the favour with the brand new video for the already released "Man I Need". The original ten-minute track is now condensed into a shorter made-for-video-version bursting with animated images that could easily have walked right off the walls of an abstract expressionist painting (could imagine putting on my trusty 3D glasses for this too). The energetic creativity of the video becomes a perfect partner for the sound of Jagwar Ma . "Howlin", their debut LP, lands on the [...]
Paris-based singer/multi-instrumentalist Melody's Echo Chamber (Melody Prochet of My Bee's Garden) has released the video for her new single, "Some TIme Alone, Alone" via Pitchfork.tv . The single comes off of her criminally-overlooked eponymous debut, produced by Tame Impala's Kevin Parker. The video does visual justice to the libidinous guitar rhythm and vocal delivery as Prochet wanders about a nighttime carnival. Watch the video here and treat yourself to a sultry piece of dream-pop that will certainly prepare you for the coming summer heat. [...]

Looks like I'll be running some more contests on the blog in the coming weeks, as Live Nation has a slew of great shows coming up in Toronto. For instance, got plans on Wednesday, May 29th? I would hope you'd be heading to the Rivoli to see Nightbox , who are gearing up to their 2013 debut album. Head to their website to see previews of the album and put "Burning" back on your long-weekend playlist. Oh, and enter this contest to get in. J.D. ORIGINALS PRESENTS [...]

I'm loving this new song "Forever" from Julianna Barwick , off her upcoming album Nepenthe (out August 20 via Dead Oceans). Take a listen below in her album trailer below. Nepenthe is Julianna's third full-length album, which was recorded in Reykjavík, Iceland, in the dark cold days of February. In ancient Greek literature, nepenthe was a magic drug of forgetfulness used to wipe out grief and sorrow. The title suggested itself to Julianna, who experienced a death in her own family in the middle of making the record, but it also refers [...]

Sometimes, its just the easiest to post the whole e-mail. Meet DAVIDS. ---- Hello Indie Music Filter. When I moved back home with my parents I started making electronic music. They didn’t seem to mind. Now I’ve finished my first EP and video. Watch the video for ‘Dead Walkie’. Directed by Christopher Mills (Interpol, Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse, Rush), it was shot on location in Lyon, France and features [...]

Josef Salvat 's latest video for the lush and sultry song "Hustler" nudges its way passed other band offerings today, as its new set of visuals drape themselves comfortably over an already rich and moody sound. Carry on Salvat-ing by streaming the brilliant remix of his previously released track 'This Life' here too. Hustle, hustle.

Here is 'Waste of Time', by MØ , a new single that I would call anything but what the title suggests. The Danish artist just signed to RCA Victor/Chess Club Records and promised to release her debut album soon. Karen Marie Ørsted will be playing around Europe all Summer, so if you're around don't think twice - the lady is incredible on stage.
