Dolly and Queen?

Joyful Noise (2012) Movie Trailer HD
Confession: I've seen pretty much every Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah movie ever so the two of them in a movie together? I'm there opening weekend.

Dark Side of the Rainbow

The Dark Side of Oz
I've really never been a big fan of the Wizard of Oz, in fact I despised the show as a kid, but I've seen The Pink Floyd/Wizard of Oz mish-mash and I'm a fan. Although thanks to this video, kids will never have to know arcane facts like you have to start "The Dark Side of the Moon" at the third MGM lion's roar, it's still pretty cool that someone synced the two together. Here you go: The Dark Side of Oz from Bryan Pugh on Vimeo .

Bears Playing with Pumpkins

Bronx Zoo Bears Play with Pumpkins
I admit, I find myself watching animal videos fairly regularly on You Tube. Here's one that's kind of fun and seasonal too!

REM?

REM Everybody Hurts
Really, I'm not all that bummed REM called it quits yesterday. I like the band, and it's a part of my child/adolescence, but they haven't put out a decent record in years. Frankly, I think they should've said their goodbyes a decade or more ago. That being said, it's still a little bittersweet that REM is no more.

Craig's List Misers

Craig's List Misers I've got a couple of Craig's List RSS* Feeds that I've been following for a while. One thing I find on there is people asking less than 40-50% off retail for a product that's clearly been used. For example, check out this bike rack. This car rack has been sitting on a car for 3 years in the Virginia area (roof bike racks are notorious for rusting out after a year or so out here) and the owner is asking 33% off or "Best Offer" for the rack. I'm pretty sure someone could find a comparable deal [...]

Shake, Shake Shakin'

Shake, Shake Shakin' So, the earthquake yesterday? Honestly, it wasn't the strongest quake I've ever felt, but that might be due to the fact that I was sitting in a building that was dedicated in the 1930's and is rock solid. The first 10-15 seconds felt like someone moving furniture on the floor above us. After that, the building started shaking. I realized immediately what was going on and moved into the doorway. The quake stopped after about 45 seconds or so. My co-workers immediately started speculating. One thought it might've been a bomb, but that idea [...]

Monkey Self Portrait

Monkey Self Portrait Although this hit the internet several weeks ago, I'm still charmed by the incredibly great monkey self-portraits taken in Indonesia.

Best Practices from Pot Dealers

A couple of days ago, I took public transportation to a Doctor's appointment. There were about 4-6 guys behind me on the bus engaged in conversation. As their conversation was loud, I quickly realized I was listening to drug dealers. Not really alarmed, I then realized that they were sharing "best practices" in the drug industry and not trying to one up each other as I originally thought. Anyway, I left the bus a little amused by what I overheard.

What I Learned over the Weekend

1) That our dog, 13 year old Lady died. 2) My friend had no idea that Japan and the U.S. was playing the final in the Women's World Cup. Ironically, my friend is half Japanese and at least her father was following the game closely. 3) When my mom went to put a cover over Lady, Lady jumped up. Both my mom and the dog were surprised. 4) I've been asked to teach Sunday School. The best part about this assignment? No class to teach.

Poetry Thursday

Joy by George Bilgere <!-- (from The White Museum ) --> Today I sit on the sun porch with my body, just the two of us for a change, the flu having left me for someone else. I'm thinking about how good it is to have been sick, to have been turned inside out. Until we are sick , says Keats, we understand not [...]

Dear Blog

Blog, I haven't forgotten you, it's just been a weird month, so I've taken a breather from you. Don't worry, we'll be back together before too long.

"Wild Geese"

Wild Geese You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the [...]

Very Short, Very Brief

Saw the Doctor on Wednesday, he decided and I agreed that I'm genetically "impervious" to current Western Medicine asthma medications and that the next step was Theophylline. He also told me his twin brother was on Theophylline and it really helped his asthma. My first reaction was no more treatments and that I needed to move to Arizona (or Mexico or anywhere on the Western side of the Continental Divide) yesterday, not to mention that I really resented my Northern European mutt ancestry. After forgetting my phone again, [...]

Bad Poetry

I have a chest infection. I teared up a little when I saw someone on a bike this morning. But, at least I have a job, health insurance and people who love me that I love too. And Friday off. And two Aretha Franklin Gospel Albums at home and one "best of Gospel" album I haven't had a chance to listen to yet. I have a good life. The End.
