Jawbone Jambox, a nifty, portable, wireless speaker for your iPhone or other bluetooth device

Jawbone JAMBOX (Black Diamond) I decided to try out this highly rated bluetooth speaker for my iPad and iPhone and was shocked at its ease of use, sound quality, small footprint, portability and long battery life. I liked the choice of colors which makes these small speakers standout and easy to spot. When I first opened the package, I was pleased that the company included several high quality cords including both short and long micro USB cords for recharging and computer synching, charge adapter, and a tangle-free audio cord for non-bluetooth sources. You can [...]

The Stone Roses rumored tour dates and tidbits

"There are new songs… 'pure psychedelic pop' according to Ian after this week's conference, Ian also said that Reni's drumming was amazing 'like the kid has got 8 arms!'. Ian said the band wanted to announce the reformation the day after the UK riots. Liam Gallagher has been in touch with them saying he's going to every date on the tour and Noel Gallagher told us he had been sworn to secrecy for months but … 'holy shit balls!'" - via louder than war Fri 29 June Heaton Park, [...]

Stone Roses reunion likely (“It’s happening”, says Ian Brown)

The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored
The internet is buzzing with rumors that The Stone Roses are reuniting. I was first informed days ago that a Golden Voice insider was quoted as saying, "we're working on getting them for Coachella". Then this morning The Sun ran this article and NME followed up with this article . Elbow's Guy Garvey has also confirmed the reunion, with a source telling the paper: "Guy was talking to friends about how the original line-up had been rehearsing over the summer in Manchester."

Under Electric Light

Waiting For The Rain To Fall by Under Electric Light After years of secretly singing over records as a child in his native Victoriaville (somewhere between Quebec city and Montreal, Canada), Danny Provencher started playing bass in his secondary school band. He then moved to Montreal where he started writing and producing electronic music on his own as Under Electric Light. After the release of his first EP (Untitled, 2002), he decided to sing over his instrumental pop songs and released the Never See The Light EP (2005), the Blue EP (2006) and the After the [...]

Vinyl Williams

Freshly Picked Diamond by Vinyl Williams Vinyl Williams is a one-person project by Lionel Williams that has had several members (namely Bryan Lee on drums) and has toured throughout the USA. The musical style is usually referred to as psychedelic and ambient - additionally, the music has a pseudo-scientific direction involving exploration of "sonic matrices," combinations of sounds that affect dimensions of the body. These are enabled by frequency intersections, and when certain tones, chords, and patterns are composited to induce specific (and usually unpredictable) emotions, unexplainable feelings, expansions of the spirit etc. [...]

Yuck

Fuzzy - "Flashlight"
Yuck, who hails from London, played two nights in a row this week at The Independent in San Francisco. They remind me of several 90s bands, many from Boston, and I wouldn't be surprised if they've never heard of any of them. The Blake Babies (with Juliana Hatfield), Fuzzy and a non Boston band, Elastica. Here is a track by Yuck called "Get Away". In the mid-90s I caught this band called Fuzzy locally. It has a similar vibe and the guitars sound very similar. Listen to [...]

The Big Takeover’s Jack Rabid

Create or Else: Jack Rabid
I've been a big proponent of The Big Takeover for years. Here is a lovely video (please excuse the language) of Jack, the founder/owner/editor talking about the magazine. If you're into punk, post-punk, shoegaze, british rock, british pop, new wave or indie rock then this will be the best $20 you'll spend for a 2 year subscription.

Shirts designed by me are now available

Shirts designed by me are now available The alternapop.com store with a few designs is up now. These are items I've designed personally or recreated from old now defunct favorites. This is one of the t-shirts I've designed. It's a vector drawing of San Francisco International Airport with 2 small additions. Can you spot them? A hint is that the text reads, "San Francisco Galactic Airport". Look at all of the aircraft parked at the gates. I realize the image is a bit small here so you [...]

Bad Veins (for fans of Interpol and The Strokes)

Bad Veins - Gold And Warm
http://www.badveins.net/ Buy on Amazon.com Buy on iTunes Bad Veins are a rarity in today's musical landscape: An act who didn't set out to become critical darlings or the next "buzz" band, but managed to achieve both after only playing a handful of shows. However, despite the fact that Bad Veins' music has been instantly embraced since their inception in late 2006, the duo of Benjamin Davis and Sebastien Schultz decided not to rush out the disc you're currently holding in [...]
