Silversun Pickups Carnavas released July 26, 2006 free mp3 of 'Lazy Eye' If the idea of basement tapes made by Billy Corgan and Doug Martsch appeals to you, say hello to your new favorite band. Silversun Pickups are fairly early adopters of the 1990s revival, but they're not grunge dorks or anything, and they're from L.A. [...]
Silversun Pickups Carnavas released July 26, 2006 free mp3 of 'Lazy Eye' I think the first time I saw these guys was back in November 11, 2005. They opened for Brendon Benson. We went to see them. Since then I've probably seen them another 4 times. At the Rickshaw Stop, Popscene, at [...]

i'm speechless. anything i think of to write here would make me sound like a pompous jerk. just don't ever wear these things. while i'm thinking of it, no man, ever, should wear denim shorts of any style/variety.

The Catherine Wheel are one of the most under appreciated bands of the 90s. Their album 'Chrome' is up there with Radiohead's 'The Bends' as far as "must haves" for any fan of Alternative/Indie rock. Why didn't they become as popular is anyone's guess. Marketing, label problems or even the band's name can be to blame. ----- http://www.thestar.com/artsent ertainment/article/176393 from an interview with The Catherine Wheel's singer, rob dickinson, regarding feedback while touring for his solo album: "It was a [...]
While I'm thinking about Engine 88, I should share this link. I managed to stumble into this show at the last minute. I would've been so upset had I missed this random reunion. I'm in the middle raising the beer!

Adorable - Vendetta MP3 Suggested if you like My Bloody Valentine, The Stone Roses, Echo and the Bunnymen, Radiohead, U2, Jesus and Mary Chain "Adorable arrived when the shoegazer scene in England was starting to fade away. Formed in Coventry, England, in late 1990, Adorable was comprised of Piotr Fijalkowski (vocals, guitar), Robert Dillam (guitar), Wil (bass), and Kevin Gritton (drums). The band's wall of shimmering riffs drew comparisons to shoegazer icons such as My Bloody Valentine and Ride; however, their most noticeable influence was Echo & the Bunnymen as Fijalkowski has a harrowed, [...]
Engine 88's noisy pop recalls Pavement and Fugazi. Two Bay Area bands provided the personnel for the group. Damon Wood (guitar, vocals), David Hawkins (drums) and Eric Knight (bass) previously played in the Smoking Section, a soul-funk band, while Tom Barnes (vocals, guitar) worked with Sordid Humor. The band began their own label (Shut Up and Drive) in 1993 and released their first single, "Funny Car/Drowning." The second single, "Bottle," appeared on No Life. Caroline released their debut album, Clean Your Room, in mid-1995. You can pick up the album "Clean Your Room" at Amazon for [...]
Some might say the title of French Kicks' third album, Two Thousand, is an unintentional reference to all the other New York bands that sound exactly like them. And, yes, while the group did at one point have a predisposition for scrappy punk guitars, off-kilter disco rhythms and strained vocals, this release actually sees it distinguishing itself from its neighbors with a more restrained sound and ambitious vision. There is a distinct '80s influence in songs like "Also Ran," "Cloche," and "No Mean Time," all shimmering guitars and motorized beats. On "Knee High," the band even manages to successfully evoke [...]
