Coachella 2009 pictures
I'm back from Coachella 2009. I took some pictures of bands but nothing that is worth posting here. I didn't get a press pass and didn't try to get close enough. I did take some photos of the crowd and art that is somewhat interesting. You can view higher resolution versions at my flickr account . This last one, in a very subtle way, [...]
off to Coachella tomorrow…

The Telescopes (recommended if you like Jesus and Mary Chain, Spiritualized, Verve)
Biography by Jason Ankeny "Dream pop cult icons the Telescopes formed in Burton-on-Trent, England, in 1986 - singer/guitarist Stephen Lawrie, guitarist/singer Jo Doran, lead guitarist David Fitzgerald, bassist Robert Brookes, and drummer Dominic Dillon comprised the original lineup, which in 1988 issued its first single, Forever Close Your Eyes, a split flexidisc with Loop issued on Cheree in honor of the two groups' joint New Year's Eve performance. The Telescopes' official debut single, Kick the Wall, followed a year later, its feedback-laden trance-rock earning the band critical comparison to the Jesus and Mary Chain and Spacemen 3 - 7th [...]
Trent Reznor on ticket resellers/scalpers and the Ticketmaster/LiveNat ion merger
http://forum.nin.com/bb/read.p hp?9,548515 "My guess as to what will eventually happen if / when Live Nation and TicketMaster merges is that they'll move to an auction or market-based pricing scheme - which will simply mean it will cost a lot more to get a good seat for a hot show. They will simply BECOME the scalper, eliminating them from the mix. Nothing's going to change until the ticketing entity gets serious about stopping the problem - which of course they don't see as a problem. The ultimate way to hurt scalpers is to not support [...]
The Veils (riyl: The National, The Walkmen, Cold War Kids, I Am Kloot)
So Beggars Group has done it again and brought us another great album. The Veils (formed in 2002) are a New Zealand band based in London, fronted by Finn Andrews. Their sound has been compared to artists as diverse as Jeff Buckley, The Birthday Party, The Smiths, and Joy Division. Their live shows have become famed for their emotional intensity and Finn's often scarily possessed stage presence. The Veils - "Killed by the Boom" http://www.beggarsgroupusa.com /theveils/ "By turns epic, desolate, [...]

Interpol, news on the upcoming 4th album
"It's been a long time. We shouldn't have left you... After the touring for OLTA came to an end, we all dispersed to tend to our individual personal lives. ...And to get our ducks in a row. Now the band has reconvened, and we are rehearsing new songs. We find ourselves marveling at the tremendous focus that has defined our early rehearsals for this, our 4th effort. All kidding aside, we feel like a new band. Once again, we have no concept to this batch of song-writing. [...]

Dead Heart Bloom
Dead Heart Bloom - "Flash In A Bottle" "After releasing two EPs in 2008, Dead Heart Bloom completes their 3 EP series with the release of their latest, In Chains. The series, embracing several styles yet lyrically and conceptually tied together, is released on the band's own KEI Records. If you haven't checked this (and it's 2 predecessors) out, you're really missing out. These guys can master so many different genres, it's astounding" You can download their music for free direct from the band's site: [...]

Venice Is Sinking
Venice Is Sinking - "Ryan's Song" Venice is Sinking plays orchestral pop, Americana, slowcore, or space rock, depending on whom you ask. Founded in Athens, GA in 2003, this five-piece outfit eschews facile categorization. Its sound is familiar but hard to pin down, rooted in cinematic arrangements, subtle genre tweaks, and clear, ringing harmonies. The band's 2006 debut LP, Sorry About The Flowers, gained national attention for the crystalline male/female vocals of singers Daniel Lawson and Karolyn Troupe and for Troupe's deft layering of her instrument of choice, the viola, which makes few appearances [...]

‘Guitar’ (recommended if you like: My Bloody Valentine, M83, Arovane)
'Guitar' is the idea to produce new unique guitar-based songs and sounds. Let's say: Free the guitarsound a little bit from the guitarplayer! After the first Guitar album I decided to open the definition of 'guitar' and also work on all kind of instruments that have strings. Ayako Akashiba is the vocalist and co-songwriter of the albums! Recommended if you like: Lush, My Bloody Valentine, M83, Seefeel, Air Formation, A Sunny Day In Glasgow, Arovane Guitar - "Sunkissed" Guitar - "Honeysky" [...]
