All Sessions Back Up

Just a quickie to let you know that all sessions are back on line (and will hopefully stay there). If you find any broken links please let me know.

The Fire Engines - 9th March 1981

A bit of a scottish flavour about this weeks sessions. The Fire Engines released disappointingly few records. Three single and just one album "Lubricate Your Living Room" without which your record collection is sadly incomplete. They did however record two Peel Sessions of which this is the first. David Henderson - Guitar/Vocals Graham Main - Bass Murray Slade - Guitar Russell Burn - Drums 1. No Time To Lose 2. [...]

Ballboy - 21st March 2000

Edinburgh's Ballboy were Peel favorites ever since the release of their debut E.P. "Silversuitsforastronauts" on SL Records in 1999. They released their first album in 2000 "Club Classics", a compilation of tracks taken from their early E.P.'s. Their first "proper" album "A Guide For The Daylight Hours" was released in 2002. Ballboy's new album "The Royal Theatre" is avaliable now on SL. This is the first of four sessions the band did for Mr Peel. Gordon McIntyre - Guitar/Vocals Nick reynolds - Bass [...]

Quickspace - 20th October 1998

Quickspace started life as Quickspace Supersport in the early nineties. They released their early singles on Too Pure and Domino Records.Later material was released through their own Kitty Kitty label. Unfortunatly this is another session with a track missing. This session was broadcast with a fourth track called "Bathtime". Has anyone got a copy??? Don't forget your sessions are always welcome. I mean, whats the point in keeping them locked away in a shoebox when you can share them with people who may never have heard them. Send your sessions to perfumedgarden@ntlworld.com [...]

The Would Be's - 19th March 1990

The Would Be's were one of those bands who could have done so much more. They were four kids from Ireland (Dublin I think, but I could be wrong) who released one of the best singles of 1990. Their debut single "I'm Hardly Ever Wrong" reached number 12 in that years Festive 50. Unfortunatly the band only released one more single, a four track e.p. called "Silly Songs For Cynical People" before breaking up in 1991. Julie McDonnell - Vocals Aidin O'Reilly - Trombone/Tenor Saxophone Mattie Finnegan - [...]

The Family Cat - 4th October 1989

I can't tell you much at all about The Family Cat. I remember buying "Remember What It Is That You Love" on Bad Girl Records in 1989 and rating it as one of the best tracks of the year. What I can tell you however is that The Family Cat recorded three Peel Sessions, the one below in 1989, a second in 1990 which I'll post in a few weeks time, and their final session in 1992. Kev - Drums John - Bass Tim - Guitar [...]

The Wedding Present - Lee's Palace, Toronto, 26th April 2005

Ok so it's not a Peel Session but it's definately something Peelie would approve of so here goes. This is a recording of one of the shows on the current Wedding Present Tour. It's so good I just had to share it with you. As you have probably already detected it was recorded on the American leg of the tour just a few weeks ago. I'm sure if Peelie was still here he would have had them back in Maida Vale by now so here's the next best thing. Intro/Interstate [...]

The Samurai Seven - 26th January 2000

Oxford's Samurai Seven are a four piece formed in 1997. Initially signed to Shifty disco records the band released a string of excellent singles and an album called "Le Sport" on Rotator Records in 2002. The Samurai Seven recorded five Peel Sessions. This was their second. Simon Williams - Guitar/Vocals Matt Williams - Guitar/Vocals Jimmy Martin - Bass/Vocals Chris Hayward - Drums 1. Bonnet 2. If You Only Knew [...]

Anhrefn - 4th August 1986

I don't know a great deal about Anhrefn except to say that they were probably the best punk band to come out of Wales (Bangor to be precise) and they recorded two Peel Sessions. This was their first. Sion Sebon - Guitar/Vocals Rhys Mwyn - Bass Dewi Gwyn - Guitar Hefin Huws - Drums/Backing Vocals 1. Defaid 2. Teimladau 3. Action Man 4. Dawns y Duwiau These files [...]

The Workhouse 26th November 2003

I think The Workhouse were actually the last band John Peel booked to record a session for his programme. That second session was broadcast on One Music in March apparantly (and I missed it. Anyone got a copy?) but this is the first session from November 2003. Andy Dakeyne - Guitars Chris Taylor - Bass/Vocals Peter Lazell - Drums Mark Baker - Keyboards/Guitars/Vocals The Workhouse - Last of The Long Songs The Workhouse - Boxing Day The Workhouse [...]

The Primitives - 15th October 1986

The Primitives were formed in Coventry in the summer of 1985. Their early singles released through their own Lazy label were unquestionably their best work. They recorded three sessions for John Peel as well as sessions for Andy Kershaw and Janice Long. This is the first Peel session. I'll post the others in the near future. Tracy Cattell - Vocals Paul Court - Guitar/Vocals Pete Tweedie - Drums Stephen Dullaghan - Bass 1. Stop Killing Me 2. Shadow [...]

14 Iced Bears - 26th November 1986

Brighton's 14 Iced Bears formed in 1985, released their first two singles (Inside & Balloon Song) on Frank Records before signing to Bristols legendary Sarah Records late in 1987. They would release two albums for the label before breaking up in 1992. Two Peel Session were recorded. This is the first. I'll post the second in a couple of weeks! Robert Sekula - Vocals Kevin Canham - Guitar Nick Roughley - Guitar/Backing Vocals Dominic Mills - Bass Nick Emery - Drums [...]

Magazine - 20th February 1978

Magazine were formed in 1977 after vocalist Howard Devoto left The Buzzcocks. They signed to Virgin Records by the end of that year and released four albums between1978-1981. In February 1978 they made their first visit to Maida Vale 4 to record the session below. Three more sessions were recorded before the band split in 1981. Howard Devoto - Vocals/Guitar on track 3 Martin Jackson - Drums Barry Adamson - Bass John McGeoch - Guitar Dave Formula - Keyboards [...]

The Field Mice - Missing Track

This is the track I had lost from The Field Mice session I posted a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to Tom Smalley for this one. The Field Mice - Anoint this file has expired If you go to my Burning World blog and scroll down there's a link to a Field Mice gig at The Dome from 1991. The sound quality is poor at best but I think it's worth having. [...]

The Field Mice - 23rd April 1990

This is the only session The Field Mice recorded for the Peel program. It was recorded on 1st April 1990 and broadcast on the 23rd. The session featured four tracks all of which were exclusive to the session and never released. Anyway the line up here is:- Robert Wratten - Guitar/Vocals Michael Hiscock - Bass Harvey Williams - Guitar Ian Catt - Synth Although The Field Mice never did another session Robert would return to Maida [...]

Introduction

The basic idea behind this blog is to post a different Peel Session every week. I will try as far as possible to steer clear of those which have already been made avaliable elseware. If you want to contribute sessions to the site (and why would'nt you?) you should send them via You Send It.com to perfumedgarden@ntlworld.com . Enjoy.

The Fall - Sound City 92

Many years ago it was suggested that Strange Fruit Records should release a Complete Fall Sessions box, but due to various disputes and what have you it never happened (there was a Peel Sessions CD a couple of years ago but it barely scratched the surface). It's a shame then that it's only after John's death that it finally becomes a reality. Monday 25th April see's the release of "The Complete Peel Sessions", a six CD box set (released through Sanctuary Records) containing every track from all 24 sessions The Fall did for the Peel program. [...]

Camera Obscura 14th August 2001

Camera Obscura hail from Glasgow and were first heard on the Peel program in 1997 when he played their single "Your Sound" on his program. However it wasn't until 2001 that the band recorded their first Peel Session. Since then "The Cams" have recorded a futher three sessions plus a memorable live performance of "Little Donkey" on a Christmas program from Peel Acres in 2002. The band have released two L.P.s and numerous singles. On 14th March 2005 they released a three track single on Elefant Records featuring songs based on the work of the legendary [...]
