Just in time for the Paid Dues Festival in April, Murs is promoting two studio albums, Melrose and Varsity Blues 2. A collabo album with Terrace Martin, Melrose is explosive, dance hip hop content with ballsy, raunchy lyrics sure to keep you way entertained. Obviously unapologetic, hilarious, and so bad-ass. Varsity Blues 2, produced by Aesop Rock features tracks with 9th Wonder and Foundation. Murs and 9th Wonder's "I Used To Love Her (Again)", their version of Common's "I Used To Love H.E.R" is pretty sweet and adds cool nostalgia. Check it! [...]

Times New Viking from Merge Records on Vimeo . Art school dropouts...wait, not dropouts - the members of Times New Viking finished school. And what did they do next? They started a band. There's something adorably endearing about TNV. Be it the garage-bandiness, the charmingly off-kilter harmonies, or the blooming sincerity in their tunes - it kind of tugs at your post-college heartstrings. Give a listen to "No Room To Live" , sounding like a forgotten 60's B-side from their latest release, [...]

I didn't think I'd be into Cloud Nothings at first, honestly, but there's something about these kids that brings me back or takes me forward, or something. It's that perfect kind of energetic pop that makes you want to dance or run around and scream along like you're in high school again. "Nothing's Wrong" and "Understand At All" just keep making back into heavy rotation on my playlists, and rightly so. Cloud Nothings is on tour with another one of my favourites, Toro Y Moi , including dates [...]

Indie rock group, A House for Lions came out with a new EP I Want Us To Be Remembered . Their song, "Come On Let's Go" is so alluring and incredibly heartfelt. Lead singer-songwriter Daniel Norman swoons with his comforting voice, drawing in listeners to feel the honesty through his endearing lyrical content: "If you want to go downtown We can start a whole new band We can make the lights flash bright We can make the old bells clang We can run away tonight [...]

So much good stuff, yet so little time to share it all. Here's this weeks small handful of tracks that I'm listening to right now here at the UV at USC. Take it to your kick spot tonight and impress the snobbers. First up we got a track from Denmark's CALLmeKAT off her album When Owls Are Out. CmK takes command with vintage elements and and pop fed attitude, give it a little funk some. SXSW bound, look er up. Flower In The Night [...]
Ten-Twenty-Ten by Generationals from Jubadaba on Vimeo . I've been digging Generationals something serious lately. Their latest release Actor-Caster comes out at the end of the month. There's something so happy about it. And this song reminds me of Hall & Oates, in the best ways possible (are there even bad ways?).
Major props to my friend Dolly for showing me this jam! What a beautiful song and a great music video to go along with it. I love it when soul tracks have the best of both worlds. This song is a total wedding/first dance/all-around sweet love classic. So wonderfully passionate. After its three minutes of soothing bliss, all I want to do is play it all over again! True soul music right here. Timothy Bloom
Watch this wonderful film Free! COI won 13 awards including Best Feature at Newport International Film Fest and the Special Jury Award at San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. Not bad for a first feature, Tze Chun. "Two young children living illegally in a model apartment outside Boston are left to fend for themselves when their hardworking mother disappears."

If you've ever seen The Brothers Bloom you must certainly remember Bang Bang, the Japanese sidekick to Mark Ruffalo's character who made things go boom! Yesterday I was randomly checking out the IMDB credits for one of my favorite films called Sideways and found out that they did a Japanese remake version starring Bang Bang aka Rinko Kikuchi . That led me to her role in Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood. Wait, you mean the famous award winning highly acclaimed novelist book writer, artist, and marathon runner that also did Kanye's album cover? Yes, that [...]
The newest video for "Get Away" from the UK's Yuck , filmed in my lovely/unfortunate hometown environs of LA and Orange County!
These Slough dudes are blowin' up steadily and have two FREE tracks for you. First head over to their facebook for a new b-side of Homesick and get Time Machine below or here . They are currently touring with The Streets and you can probably bet to hear a lot from these dudes in 2011. Also below is their newest video from their forthcoming album. That's some sweet sing-a-long indie rock right there. Is it just me or is it Oasis-ish of the 2000s? Just sayin'. [...]
I just saw this rad vid on NOWNESS. Filmmaker Jonathan de Villiers shot this little docu about one of my new favorite things: Keirin racing culture. Love it. Keirin seriously kicks. Inside the High-Octane and Lucrative World of Japan's Cycling Spectacle Before fixed-gear bikes became de rigueur for urban aesthetes, they were the weapon of choice for Japan's fearless Keirin cyclists. A gladiatorial incarnation of track cycling that dates back to 1948, the Japanese sporting phenomenon operates by an intricate set of rules that sees competitors jostling for position on steeply [...]
Fences on Shoot The Player : My Girl The Horse. Video features Sara Quin of Tegan & Sara who also produced the EP. Great song!

"The Hour Glass" by indie pop couple Thurlow is a simple but sweet tune. Each instrument compliments the male vocals and the background harmony flows well together. I think the layering on this track is stellar with lyrics that uncover the importance of time. Originally from Washington, D.C., Thurlow worked on their complete formation and original for five years and now consider L.A. their home. It's also pretty cute that they are a married music-making duo. Aw, how lovely! The Hour Glass Their interesting video:

Commander Lykke is unstoppable...I think. Her new album is her best yet and now roll call the countless remixes. Okay, right now there aren't as many as you'd think but soon. Give it a sec and you won't be able to get enough. There's a small handful floating around and I'm just gonna give you all of the ones I have on my iPad2. Which is your favorite? Get Some (Mike D Remix) [MP3] Get Some (Beck Remix) [MP3] [...]
Was that title too much? Oops! I can't wait til people stop talking about Charlie Sheen. Not hatin' just tired of it. oh wait, that's hatin'! The only good thing that's really come out of all this is a dope new video/track from Jin the Emcee, Dumbfoundead and TRAPHIK. This is simply a song about Charlie Sheen done right. Going viral in 3...2...1.....seriously...dope . Cool to see Jin on this track, he's killer sick.

Saw an email in the inbox that was subject-ed Peelander Z and had noooo idea what to expect. To my surprise/confusion it was more insane high freak energy punk rock from Japan. Their songs are actually very American...sort of; they have an insane song about Tacos appropriately called Taco, Taco, Tacos and a song about the fact that there are many people named Mike in America called So Many Mike. All their videos make me laugh. They just want you to have fun but also they want you to be crazy. They even have a [...]

Everyone is sending us their SoundCloud pages and I think they should have a SoundCloud fest of some sort. I am sure they have that in the works. One of groups that has to be on the bill is JazZstePpa . Their new EP is sick with some dub step tracks, and this killer I Doser title track with Jessie Lee Burn's showsy blues vocals. It's a good kind of catchy and makes you wanna dance. Get this EP , you'll dig. Listen to the whole EP here . [...]
