Evan Dando of the Lemonheads at Emo's photo by staff photographer jeff barringer The Lemonheads Hometown: New York, New York http://www.thelemonheads.net/ The Lemonheads Concert Photos Tuesday, February 9, 2007 Emo's Austin (Austin, Texas) Evan Dando dropped off of everyones radar ten years ago, after a whirlwind career that seemed destined to end tragically like his friend Kurt Cobain. Too much success too soon, and too fast a crowd, left Dando struggling with his own [...]
In what has got to be the most poorly matched song to use in an advertisement, the bright guys at Wendy's are currently running a commercial for their new Bacon Mushroom Cheeseburger Melt using the Violent Femmes song "Blister In The Sun". Now this intrepid reporter risked life and limb and actually tasted one of these sandwiches and I can honestly say that they do not taste like blisters in the sun, though they may want to replace the bun with something a little more substantial. They may also want to consider replacing their marketing arm as well since this [...]

In case you haven't noticed, all my reviews are for death and black metal bands. This is NOT a typical review for me. Time Requiem is an incredible group of musicians very influenced by classical music adapted into the genre of progressive metal. Regardless of your personal tastes, as a musician you find yourself at times unable to ignore music you would not normally pay attention to. This record had that effect on me. It is simply brilliant. I had the house to myself for a weekend, a rarity in my life. As I was working in [...]
club kingsnake will be displaying our site at this years SXSW Interactive and Music Trade Shows. We will be handing out free 3,000 of our infamous "My Snake Is Bigger Than Your Snake" T-shirts from our booth at the show and they will be available to the general public at a few select locations such as Snake Eyes Records. After months of waiting and speculation SXSW has finally released it's list of bands scheduled to perform. With over 1300 bands this years festival once again has something fro everyone. I myself will definitely try to weedle my way into the Les Claypool and Zico Chain sets and I have barely begun to do more than glance at the list. To make it easier to read we made our own version of SXSW's 07 list for now. Take a look at http://club.kingsnake.com/inde x.php?/pages/sxsw07bands.html
Howard Jones at the Cactus Cafe photo by staff photographer jeff barringer Howard Jones Hometown: Somerset, England http://www.howardjones.com Howard Jones Concert Photos Tuesday, February 6, 2006 Cactus Cafe (Austin, Texas) This is definitely NOT the Howard Jones lead singer of Killswitch Engage, but rather the Howard Jones of the hairspray eighties with a slightly tamer hairstyle and a much matured audience. I will be the first to admit, regardless of [...]
We are looking for a few good bloggers, podcasters, and videographers that like to blog about live music and are interested in joining our communal blog as staff or contributers. We don't make any money with the site, thats not really the point, so we can't pay you, but we can promise you that people will read your stuff. We can also help you out with ticket expenses, press credentials, and equipment like cameras as well as CDs and DVDs to review. Some of our bloggers are going to SXSW2007 all expenses paid this year. Others have gotten camera equipment, [...]
It seems like just a short time ago that we were up to 10,000 photos in the concert photo gallery, but looking at the numbers today, just more than 18,000, its hard to believe that we didn't start the gallery til after SXSW06. Now the big question - can we make it to 20,000 photos before next month's SXSW? It will be tough but we might just do it. With staffers shooting in 4 major cities we have done pretty well so far, and we are adding staff as fast as we [...]

We only have a thousand to give away. Of course if you miss us there, you can get one next month at our SXSW Trade Show booth where [...]

This must be the year of improbable reunions. The Meat Puppets, Iggy & The Stooges, the Police, and now Van Halen? Breaking a 20 year standoff, Billboard is reporting that Van Halen will re-unite with David Lee Roth for a 40 city tour this summer. Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfie will step in on the bass for the shows. The tour will open in, of course, Las Vegas. Hopefully Dave can pull himself away from the Liberace museum long enough to grace us with his customary " I'm so drunk I forgot the words to this song...". Dave, good to [...]
I covered the Lucy Lawless concert ... you know, the actress/singer who played Xena: Warrior Princess for six years and then took the country by storm last year on the cheesy but entertaining Celebrity Duets ... for another publication. And when JeffB suggested I review it here, I gave him a skeptical look and said, "Jeff, honey, trust me, there is nothing 'alternative' about Lucy Lawless' music." He shook his head. Well, perhaps I should say he shook it metaphorically, because we were on the phone. I have no actual knowledge of what [...]
Authorities have confirmed that former Social Distortion bassist Brent Liles was struck and killed on January 18 as he attempted to bicycle across southern California's Orange Freeway in Placentia California. Liles was bass player for the band from 1981 to 1984, quitting, along with drummer Derek O'Brien, during a New Year's performance in 1983. Liles later played in a number of punk bands including Agent Orange. Brent played on the band's Mommy's Little Monster album. Brent Liles was 43.
Marshall has always been an oddity in the music business. They seldom offer signature model amplifiers, and have rarely given amps to artists for free. At Winter NAMM in Anaheim, Marshall announced the new JCM800 2203KK Head, inspired by and built to the specifications of Slayer's Kerry King. Kerry joins the elite ranks of Jimi Hendrix, Slash and Zakk Wylde as one of the few artists to have a signature Marshall amplifier. Marshall has also announced a second Zakk Wylde signature amp. The Limited Edition MG15MSZW is [...]
