You didn't think that Omar Rodriguez-Lopez was going to have ALL THE FUN with his new outfit, Bosnian Rainbows? Not to be outdone by former Mars Volta counterpart, Cedric Bixler-Zavala has decided to take a stab at with his new act, Zavalaz, that consists of: Cedric Bixler Zavala - Guitar, Vocals//Dan Elkan - Guitar, Vocals//Greg Rogove - Drums, Vocals//Juan Alderete de la Peña - Bass, Vocals. There's not much known about what we can expect, however, a snippet was released recently that appears to be more inviting than the proggy mess that the Mars Volta was spinning [...]

Nathaniel + the Night Sweats crammed as many people and energy on the Hi-Dive stage not seen in years. Rateliff brought the swagger of a Baptist preacher during a revival service leading the charge with his guitar and trusty tambourine. The all - star group consisting of Patrick Meese (drums), Joseph Pope III (guitar) and Joshua Trinidad (horn) channeled the fury of a raucous James Brown show circa late 60s with their small catalog of tunes to celebrate their 73 release. The heavily sold out show witnessed a different side of Rateliff that usually teeters [...]

A full decade has passed since the release of "Give Up." The Postal Service was always a side project that was never meant to achieve the level of success/popularity that the duo (trio?) has reached. The sold-out Red Rocks crowd gobbled up everything that the Sub-Pop kids were dishing up in a blustery perfect evening that had many thinking that the show might have been canceled due to a show cancellation this week in Salt Lake. Skinny Ben Gibbard did his best one-two dance steps with Jimmy Tamborello serving as the electronic maestro for last [...]

The wait is almost over for the new album from Disclosure to hit the States. "Settle" will be available June 4 via Interscope and is going to give Classixx and Daft Punk a run for their money for summer dance album of 2013. Check out the "When a Fire Starts to Burn" video that includes the conviction of a southern minister hootin' and hollerin' in a sweltering church. I had taken a hiatus from writing for a while due to a lack of inspiration/motivation. After a while of sitting on the sidelines, I've finally gotten back into the swing of things and like the direction of some of the new music being released. The only time I spent inside my house this look Memorial Day weekend was to sleep. Kind of reminded me of the days when I was a young one leaving the house at 7am and only coming back to eat and leaving again and not returning till the sun went [...]

The start of summer is upon us, or at least that's what Memorial Day (military appreciation day) weekend reminds the rest of the country of our three day weekend. The one thing I wanted most around this time of year is for Colorado Rockies baseball to be relevant. My wish has been granted with the Rox playing inspired ball as of late and the first place standing at this point of the season leads me to believe that the guys aren't pretenders this year. Musically, I'm not surprised about the insane amount of Daft [...]

Vampire Weekend has taken their collegiate odes to east coast women and living and taken a more broad approach to songwriting with their latest release, "Modern Vampires of the City." Is it inconceivable that VW had the best selling album in the land last week? An indie release no less. Number one on the Billboard charts with a spot at the top of most summer festivals in 2013 with a "Best New Music" from P4K. One could say this is the year of the vampire. Speaking of vampires, "True Blood," starts this summer. [...]

Classixx has put up a good fight with their latest album, "Hanging Gardens," to claim their stake as conquerors of the summer jamz circuit. The only other release that stands in their way is the gargantuan release from Daft Punk, but that was expected. Saturday night saw the duo behind their keyboards to get the party started with a short(er) set that included the pre-recorded vocals on "All You're Waiting For," but that didn't take away from those that had an itch to cut a rug. The SoCal kids sounded great, but the lack of live [...]

The Presets are performing at the Odgen Theater tomorrow co-headlining with Dragonette and openers Classixx. In all honesty, the three could be headlining the evening with strong new(ish) albums from both the Presets and SoCal's Classixx. The Presets' latest release, "Pacifica," has a tinge of Darren Emerson from Underworld sprinkled for good measure on Australia's best hope to follow in the footsteps of Cut Copy. "Pacifica" is a step in the right direction of using more instruments versus leaning too much on the electronic element with a more organic feel compared to previous efforts. Classixx's "Hanging Gardens" [...]

Last time Purity Ring came to Denver, the duo played to a wild Larimer Lounge. The seasoned veterans of the road have checked in the comfy confines of the LL for the very spacious Gothic Theatre tomorrow, before the 4ad kids bring the noise to the desert for Coachella. I have a pair of tickets to giveaway to one lucky reader. Just send me your name via Twitter over here or email me (julio dot enriquez at gmail dot com). The Canadians are on the hustle with their latest album, "Shrines," for those of [...]

AND WE'RE BACKKKKKK! After a brief hiatus, we're back on the grind and hope to make the Friday Remixes better for y'all. Today is opening day for my beloved underachieving Rockies. See you at the ballgame. Capital Cities - Safe and Sound (Vice Remix) Started From The Bottom (G-Mix) D.L.O. x Drake x Wiz Khalifa Zedd & Tiesto vs. Cryogenix & Daddy's Grove - Clarity Like This (N3AKO Bootleg) Can't Sleep In The Chaos (ft. A lot of you guys will commence eye rolls when seeing any movie's preview as soon as the name TOM CRUISE is flashed before your eyes. Think about how many great movie's he's done: Top Gun, Cocktail, the Outsiders, Risky Business and on and on and on. See, he's not that bad. Fast forward to 2013 and we have the futurisitic post apocalyptic feature, "Oblivion." Who better than Mr. Anthony Gonzalez to score the spacey film? The rest of you that don't win can purchase the "Oblivion" soundtrac over here and for more [...]

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds came to the Ogden last night to "Push the Sky Away." I'm converted. I am now a "Bad Seed."

Little Boots is back with great news. Fans can look out for a new album this May titled, "Nocturnes," but in the meantime, we have "Motorway." The beautifully arranged single that plays well into Little Boots' strengths of clever beats and silky vocals. Little Boots - Motorway [mp3] Little Boots - Motorway

Phoenix made good with their promise of new tunes in 2013. The new track, "Entertainment," has that grandiose buildup with the falsetto vocals from Mr. Thomas Mars. Look for the Parisians' new album, "Bankrupt," April 23 in the States. Phoenix - Love Like a Sunset (Mike Hewitt Remix) [mp3] Phoenix - Entertainment (homemade lyric video)

That Russian meteor that crashed in the mountains of Ural was the boom that was literally heard around the world. It could be one of four scenarios. #1-It was an actual meteor #2-The US was testing out a new weapon #3-Russia shot down said "meteor" with their own missiles #4-Alien invasion Shall we put Morgan Freeman/Bill Pullman on the phone and get "things" taken care? Stafford Brothers - Hello ft. Lil Wayne & Christina Milian (Pleather Remix) Parker Ighile - [...]

I didn't subscribe to the hype coming from the Jessie Ware camp, but I'm converted. Ware's take on Rihanna's global hit remind me of that scene in "Romeo and Juliet" when the starry-eyed lovers steal glances from each other from across a rather large fish tank. I'm completely smitten. The xx put their stamp on the melancholic Beyonce/Frank Ocean penned track for those of you spending today in solitude. Fleetwood Mac's timeless track "Everywhere" got the chill-wave makeover by Selebrities and Purity Ring did their thing on Soulja Boy's "Grammy." The xx - [...]

It's coming! The new Yeah Yeah Yeah's album is scheduled for a spring release from the NYC noisemakers. Four years have passed since "It's Blitz" and the new album couldn't come any sooner. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps (remix) [mp3]

I'm a sucker for anything New Order (Peter Hook/Bernard Sumner) related. Nova Nova brings the sophistication of French house and incorporated the unmistakable sound of bass strumming from one of Manchester's own, Mr. Peter Hook. Listen to the sprawling 16 minute banger below and be on the look out for a proper release of the "Low Ends" single with the original recording and three remixes via Atal Music in April 2013. Nova Nova + Peter Hook - Low Ends [mp3]

Bosnian Rainbows has announced a US/Mexico tour that begins this week. Check out their second single that is scaled back from their initial single, "Torn Maps." Look for the S/T album to be released later this year via Sargent House. The first thing that fans will notice is the constant noodling from Omar, however, in the end, it's Teri Gender Bender's vocals that tie the band of misfits together. Bosnian Rainbows tour dates Feb 15, 2013 - Atlanta, GA @ Terminal West * Feb 16, 2013 - [...]
