Not together, but those have been the musical guests with Jason Bentley on the venerable MBE in Santa Monica this Monday and Tuesday, respectively. And to think that the xx is scheduled to be on the show tomorrow. Mind=BLOWN The performances between the two are on different ends of the spectrum. The Walkmen appeared to have been stripped down to the bone, whereas, Hot Chip's beats seemed amplified by the live performance. Both brilliant performances in their own regard and pushers of two of my favorite albums of 2012. Please take note of the latest [...]

Hello Seahorse! continues to hold on to one of the "most exciting acts from Mexico" spots making the rounds. The Nacional Records stalwarts have released their first single, "La Flotadera," off of their forthcoming album, "Arunima." The release was recorded at the world famous Sonic Ranch in my hometown of El Paso. Beck, YYY and Bright Eyes have recorded their most recently. The new single feels a little more saccharine infused than previous releases, but with the shimmery voice from Denise Gonzalez, you'd be wishing for that sugar rush to last for a couple [...]

According to Annie Clark, the collaboration between St. Vincent and David Byrne, "Love This Giant," is an album "centered around a bass band." I'm going to have myself a very selfish moment and hope that if any future collaborations are indeed involved, could they be more like the Talking Heads instead of a brass band? Don't get me wrong. The two appear to be having a blast together, as seen on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and the album can be challenging at times. It has taken a few listens, but I have started to feel the [...]

Twin Shadow brought "Confess" to Denver last week. Forget about the homage to Prince, the slick beats and letters of long lost love. The cohesiveness of the quartet shockingly caught me by surprised of how well the band performed. The tight knit didn't miss a beat and the unsung heroes of the night came in the form of bass player, Zak Longo and drummer Joseph Ciampini. The hulkish bass lines , timely beat thumping combined with the devilish crooning from George Lewis Jr. set interpreted one of 20122s best albums with the ease of a hammer. [...]

Grizzly Bear is back on the scene, making sweet sounds, again. Did you expect anything less. Perhaps a tad on the trippy side, or shall we just say "experimental." Either way, it's good to have the guys back making the rounds. Their new album, "Shields," will hit the streets September 18, but you lucky kids get to stream the release via NPR music over here . Fall is in the air, and that crisp only means one thing. Football. The first week of the NFL starts this weekend with replacement refs. Why is the commissioner jeopardizing the integrity of the game over what appears to be chump change? The pissing contest in the end will only hurt the golden egg that the NFL is always trying to protect. In better news, Sunday night's Broncos versus Steelers' game will mark the first regular season game Peyton Manning has played in since 2010. Fans are elated with the fact that the seasoned veteran will be [...]

I still get chills when seeing Samuel T. Herring perform on stage. Last year's Larimer Lounge performance was one of my favorite shows of 2011. The video for "Grease" is a little bit late, but still welcomed nonetheless. The patchwork quilt-esque video is done beautifully in a majestic black and white that captures the intimacy of the band on the road and at ease. Future Islands - Before the Bridge [mp3] Future Islands - Grease from Thrill Jockey Records [...]
Todd Terje and Bryan Ferry from Studio One on Vimeo . Thanks to Studio One for this small two minute video of Todd Terje and Bryan Ferry messing around in the studio. I don't know the meaning behind the video, but my hopes for a new Bryan Ferry album have been multiplied times a thousand. Todd Terje - Snooze 4 Love [mp3] Bryan Ferry - Kiss and Tell [mp3]

How did we get so lucky? Us Colorado kids get two visits from Spanish knob twister, John Talabot. "Fin" is an album I slept on earlier this year, but haven't been able to put it down since listening to "Missing You." The album as a whole has a minimalistic approach to the beat arena without sounding like the audio equivalent of white rice. John Talabot - Missing You [mp3] John Talabot @ Sonar 2012 Barcelona "Depak Ine" John [...]

David Byrne's voice sounds as timeless as ever on his latest album that sees the ex-Talking Heads chief team up with Ms. Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent). The album plays like a vanity project for the duo and proves to be a challenging listen that you can decide for yourself over here . The xx "Coexist" on their latest album. The much highly anticipated followup to their debut album that was on non-stop repeat for a full year after the release date is scheduled to hit the streets next week. Jamie xx's [...]

It's been over two years that C=T has been pining for a full length album from one of Vagrant's newcomers, California Wives . "Art History" is scheduled for release September 4 (purchase here ), but you can stream the debut album below. All of a sudden, your Thursday night just got better. For you Chi town folk, look for an album release party Sept 12 at Lincoln Hall. California Wives - Purple [mp3]

Ok, so we only got the list from the first three new episodes for the 2012-2013 season and I'm sure a large sum of you will be pleased with the first episode scheduled for September 22. Look for Seth MacFarlane fresh of his homerun slam of "Ted" and Frank Ocean. Ocean's "Channel Orange" is going to be at the top of those pesky "Best of" lists you'll start seeing at the beginning of December. "Sweet Life" off of "Channel Orange" could've easily been an A side cut off of a Stevie Wonder album. Other guests for this [...]

I've been meaning to post the Care Bears on Fire's valiant effort on a classic 80s Tears for Fears cover of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." The take is entirely fast paced abandoning any semblance of the original. How to Dress Well decided to take Janet Jackson's classic of "Again" by sedating it altogether. Lastly, the Knocks kept the octane in the tank with their take on M832s smash, "Midnight City." Care Bears on Fire - Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Tears for Fears cover) [mp3] How [...]

Sometimes life gets tough. When it does, we look for inspiration in different places. Faith and music are my old standbys and the vocals from Neil Halstead have proven to function as a beacon of light in those trying times. Our old friend from Mojave 3/Slowdive comes back to us with his forthcoming album "Palindrome Hunches" on November 5 with a beautifully poignant track, "Digging Shelters." This album is going to sound amazing when the temperature plunges below zero and the winter blankets make their yearly appearance. Neil Halstead -Digging Shelters [...]

The voice of Chan Marshall will accompany me before I lay my head to sleep tonight. One of the most eagerly anticipated albums of the year comes from Matador's Cat Power. It's the end of the baseball season and things are tightening up in division races. It makes sense because my Colorado Rockies are starting to play as if they were in contention for a wild card berth. Mathematically, it's still a possibility, and the Rockies are taking a note out of one of my favorite 802s movies, "Goonies never die." After being left for dead, the team has resurrected by an absurd 75 pitch count for starters, a piggy back rotation that involves a mess of middle relief pitchers and a couple of serviceable closers. The young [...]

TRST (TRUST) is hitting the road in support of one of electro's titans, the Faint. The Faint are releasing a remastered version of "Danse Macabre" and more importantly, the Nebraskans will be performing the album in its entirety. 20122s best release from the Canadian label, Arts & Crafts, comes in the way of the s/t album from Robert Alfons and Maya Postepski (aka Trust). The ominous gloom brand being pushed is as dark as the soot on your chimney and should serve as a perfect compliment to the Faint on this pending tour. [...]

Kings of Leon are FM radio mainstays. For a while there, you couldn't shake "Sex on Fire." Their popularity surged and next thing you knew, the southerners were selling out larger venues. It didn't help that Caleb Followill's dependancy has taken a stronghold over his life and the group. KOL has been on hiatus since late last year. Bassist Justin Followill decided that time is precious and teamed up with Nick Brown from Mona to create Smoke & Jackal. The first single "No Tell" is a tender ballad that shows promise for a future full length. Look [...]

The Walkmen are fresh off of playing some of their larger shows to date opening up for Florence + the Machine. The guys are still out pushing their seventh LP, "Heaven." It's hard to believe that the guys have been going strong for well over a decade and show no signs of slowing down. I can definitely appreciate their new LP output at every two years on average.
