The Olympics are winding down with my beloved Mexican soccer team playing for the gold tomorrow morning. The experience has been forgettable at best with NBC making botched call after botched call putting their advertisers before the audience. I hope they've learned from their mistakes and move to improve for the winter games in Russia in 2014. In better news, last night was the Denver Broncos first preseason game. The world finally saw Peyton Manning take his first snap as a Bronco. His passes seemed to look wobbly at times, but his sound decision [...]

Unless you were glued to Twitter for the last couple of days, chances are you missed an impromptu Jack White show on west Colfax. It was only a four song set, but nonetheless, it was Jack White. I work in Highlands Ranch, which might as well would've been Pueblo, because I found out twenty minutes too late. Luckily, Enrique Jimenez, all around shredder from Panal S.A. de C. V. was on the scene to take some great photos and give his 2¢. Jack White - You Know That I Know (Hank [...]

What do these three artists have all in common? Each are responsible for some of my favorite albums of the year. That's what! Three things that I've come away after watching each of these videos: What's up with pyramids showing up in everything. Seriously?! I see it everywhere popping up in either the form of triangles or pyramids. Yes. We get it, the "all seeing eye." The Liars still know how to creep me the F out after all of these years. They've single-handedly have ruined "Looney Tunes" for me. I [...]

The world lost a great one this week with the passing of Mexican singer and lover of life, Chavela Vargas. Vargas grew up in a time where men were the only kind strumming guitars. Chavela found a co-conspirator in the legendary José Alfredo Jiménez. to realize her dream. Her voracity for life had her linked with Frida Kahlo, but it was her distinct vocal style that resembled a rose adorned with many thorns that won fans over. The famed artist's career spanned over fifty years with gobs of albums and tours that spanned the globe. A true [...]

Locals! First Friday is upon us and for those of you tired of the same ol same ol galleries on Santa Fe, tonight promises to be different. Miami Steve's (555 Santa Fe) will be hosting my favorite Denver rock act, the Knew, playing alongside the Outfit and Faceman. You might notice something familiar about the DJ. Shepard Fairey will be mixing his favorite jams as the artist continues his successful takeover of Denver. Fairey has a piece that he was recently working on Santa Fe by the Metro St. CVA. While milling about, see [...]

It's very easy to get caught up with the theatrics of headliners such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, but there's a whole lineup that will consist of making decisions on head to head lineup conflicts. I've combed the lineup and have come up with these stellar acts that hopefully will be aired back on the Interwebz in REAL TIME. Are you reading this NBC? I haven't looked at the scheduled, but I hope the Frank Ocean is a night set vs. daytime. Sometimes the music doesn't translate the same when played in broad daylight. [...]

Both covers this week come with strong female vocalists taking the charge. Blonds took "Gun Has No Trigger" and made the Dirty Projectors' track into a whimsical escapade of their own. Whereas Scarlett Johansson breathed her sultry pipes into the classic "Bonnie and Clyde" instantly turning the cover into a favorite. Not much can or should be changed on this classic, however, Johansson's vocals are barely breathed which is the only subtle difference. Scarlett Johansson & Lulu Gainsbourg - Bonnie & Clyde [mp3]

Groove Armada is leading the charge of the battle of the "big beat." GA have brought the big beat house sound on their latest single, "Pull Up." The dance floor thumping track precedes an EP that's headed our way that promises to wrap up summer for all.

The Olympics reigned as king of the weekend for those of us unable to be present in London. Lots of armchair quarterbacks talking about Danny Boyle's stab at the Olympic ceremonies titled "Isles of Wonder." The masterful Boyle successfully created a relevant production that most citizens of the UK would be proud of calling Boyle, one of their "own." Boyle comes from humble beginnings and his thematic masterpiece wove the different periods of English history with mesmerizing attention to detail and more than generous with the eye candy pulling out all the stops to make the Beijing [...]

Last week was the first time I have skipped a "Friday Remixes" post in a while. After learning about the theatre shooting 10 minutes from my house, I didn't feel it was appropriate to push forward. I sat numb listening, reading and praying everybody was alright and that none of mt friends or family weren't involved. I was fortunate, however, you ask anyone around town and typically it's one degree of separation with the tragedy. Someone knew someone that suffered as a victim in one capacity or another. Things aren't back to normal around here. People are [...]

"Breaking Bad" spoiler alert! We can all agree that Bryan Cranston, aka Walter White, is possibly one of the best character actors on the big screen. Walt has increasingly turned more evil as each season passes playing the meth producing chemist and violent mastermind of a multimillion dollar business. The partnership with elder muscleman, Mike, has me shocked, but not suprised. More importantly, who's the chick that Mike fails to kill at the end of last week's episode? The beginning of last week's episode has Walt and Mr. Pinkman scavenging throughout the house looking for that one [...]

I'm convinced that the Killers attended some type of summer camp that involved a songwriting class instructed by Bruce Springsteen. The vivid imagery woven by frontman Brandon Flowers coupled with the back to basics attitude has the Killers soaring with their anthemic single, "Runaways." The forthcoming album, "Battle Born," will see the light of day September 18. The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It (Madeon Remix) [mp3]

George Lewis Jr., aka Twin Shadow, checked in with one of my favorite music videographer, Yours Truly . "Confess" has been getting extreme play on my listening rotation to the point that my cube neighbors at the office have requested that I listen to something new for the sake of their sanity. The release is a true revelation that the LP format isn't dead in singles driven market. Catch Twin Shadow on tour and watch George bare his soul below in front of his LA garage. For those wondering, yes, a motorcycle was used in [...]

The new xx single, "Angels," resembles their best stab at Beach House. Funny that both played the late night tv rounds last night. The track is clearing lacking in the Jamie xx department. In case you missed it, the xx announced some tour dates that you can check below. Beach House performed two tracks on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. It was good to see Victoria's hair not look like a bird's nest and seemingly sounding upbeat. the xx - Angels (Andrea Remix) [mp3] Beach House - Myth [...]

OMG! CAN'T. BREATHE. NEW ORDER. TOUR. NORTH AMERICA. DENVER. The bad news is that Peter Hook won't be involved, but my bucket list will be complete! New Order - Blue Monday (Dom Dolla Stab Rework) [mp3] North American Tour Dates 10-05 San Francisco, CA - Oakland Fox Theatre 10-07 Los Angeles, CA - Greek Theatre 10-10 Denver, CO - Broomfield 1st Bank Center 10-12 Dallas, TX - Palladium 10-18 New York, NY - Roseland Ballroom 10-21 Chicago, IL - Aragon Ballroom 10-23 [...]

Hot Chip are growing up before our eyes. The fun party band use to just go out for kicks, but something struck me a little different on "In Our Heads," the latest album from Hot Chip. The album plays like one of my favorites of 2012 and who knew they had it in them to put together a slow love jam in the track, "Look at Where We Are." I like the change in scenery with the new material and their live show is one I sadly regret missing a vast majority of when [...]

It's impossible to think that you'll be able to catch most of everything that you'd like to see at this week's UMS. There's one of two approaches you could take. You could wing it and just go to wherever your friends are going to hang out or you could be responsible and try to map out some type of semblance of a plan to navigate through the multiple venues and acts over the colossal four day weekend. I've scoured through the acts and I've come up with a couple suggestions to look out for while making [...]

I'm a fan of whatever outfit Greg Dulli is fronting. The announcement that the Afghan Whigs have reunited with tour dates that include my hometown is even better news. The timing of the Frank Ocean track, "Lovecrimes," couldn't have come at a better time and the Dulli vocals on track breathes new life to an already piece of stellar work. The AV Club's "Undercover" series is one of the best things to happen to the Internet on a weekly basis. The last two weeks saw covers from Father John Misty taking the subdued "Do [...]

One of my favorite things to see on "the Late Show" is to see how Letterman thanks the evening's musical guest. Letterman is completely awkward when he doesn't know how to respond, as was the case with lead singer Jake Orrall wearing a shimmery dress for their late night television performance. As expected, the Tennessee boys crushed the stage with their summer jam, "Sixpack," as they played as a quintet last night. " "Hypnotic Nights" is the name of the latest album that was released yesterday available pretty much everywhere and look for them on tour [...]

I never thought I'd be typing Bill Callahan and documentary in the same sentence, but here we are. Former FADER video extraordinaire, Hanly Banks , has taken his camera and followed the Bill Callahan crew around the US as part of the documentary, "Apocalypse: A Bill Callahan Tour Film." The tour documentary captures live show footage and a behind the curtain peek at Bill Callhan, the person vs. the performer supporting the exquisite album, "Apocalypse." Look for the film to make the rounds this summer and a DVD to be available for purchase soon. [...]
