Madness - They Call It Madness

Madness - They Call It Madness I like Madness. Madness are ideal music for days like today. It's now past mid summer, and here on the south coast of England it is still raining. So here's a little musical sunshine to sing along too, as we dodge the showers, and wait for some sunshine and a visit to the beach ! Madness - 01 - One Step Beyond.mp3 Madness - 03 - Night Boat To Cairo.mp3 [...]

What Is Soul

What Is Soul I am not an expert on soul music. I do not even know if some of the music I call soul music, is soul music. I expect some purists may be upset by my inclusions. I do know that Stax, Volt, Atco, and Atlantic Records, were the home labels for alot of sixties & seventies soul. As regards the artists and songs on the 1969 sampler 'This Is Soul' that prompted this article, most tracks were recorded in Tennessee with Booker T and the MG's or in Alabama with the [...]

Random Mode Four

Random Mode Four Summer remains a mixture of some sunshine & to many showers here in the south of England. Must be affecting my listening taste, still here's a selection of whats been playing in my car these last few days. If you have a moment can you look at the poll on the right of the screen, and click the most appropriate answer. This will be useful for me, particularly in uploading whole bootlegs to share, and some feedback is always useful. For your further listening pleasure my current random state of mind... [...]

Anorak Corner - Part Three

Anorak Corner - Part Three Holland can proudly claim to be the home of offshore radio in the early 1970's. Radio Caroline relaunched off of Holland, joining Radio Northsea International who had both Dutch & English language programming (and at one time German). There was also Dutch station Radio Veronica, which had soldiered on from the 1960's. Radio Atlantis also had Dutch & English services, and somewhere along the line I know the Flemish had a share on the speaking front. All of this had two notable beneficial effects. Firstly those in Holland, and bordering areas, along with those [...]

Alanis Morissette - Lets Dance !

Alanis Morissette - Lets Dance ! It goes without saying that this is my blog, so I am going to post 'stuff' about music I like. I like Alanis Morissette, she has in my humble opinion made some good albums, and is worth catching live, if you ever get the chance. I am glad I formed my opinions upon hearing Jagged Little Pill, for the first time, rather than her 1991 release simply called Alanis. Thankfully I came across the 1991 album via another site, which with hind site was dwelling on some real cheesy musical genres and artists. So [...]

Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band

Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band We live in the age of remastered and re-released albums. You usually can expect a few 'unreleased' extras, a bit of playing around with the original cover, and hey presto, it's a must have (or so the record industry will tell you). Some times these albums are really worth all the effort, some however from personal experience, are noticeably the same to listen too (or even worse audio quality), and you understand straight away why the 'extra free tracks', were never originally released. So the Bonzo's have had their classic albums remastered [...]

Jeff Buckley - Never Enough Boots

Jeff Buckley - Never Enough Boots Jeff Buckley was born in California's Orange County in 1966. He died in a tragic drowning accident on May 29 th 1997. He left one near perfect album, several live concerts recorded and released in full or part prior to, and/or after his death, and the material that may have lead eventually to a second 'proper' album. If you are a fan this leaves a void, that can never be filled. Sadly for an artist as talented as Jeff, the 'unofficial' recordings remain sadly few and far between. In away this [...]

Random Mode Three

Random Mode Three I once grew my hair long, very long, totally long, longer than most. I was not famous, so having the photo's destroyed was not to difficult. With hind site I am glad I have never been famous, my long hair was only known to the peers of my time, who are also not famous, so problem solved. Thankfully I still have the option of growing my hair longer, however I am pleased to say The Move circa 1970/71, have helped me to take the right decision. Plans to grow my hair long [...]

Anorak Corner - Part Two

Anorak Corner - Part Two Listening to Radio Caroline in the 1970's was fantastic. Having become 'Europe's first and only album station', you had a diverse selection of 'album orientated' music, that varied according to the presenters tastes. There were singles too, however the format veered towards rock music from the late sixties on. That said, some presenters (the late Tony Allen springs to mind straight away), pushed the boundaries of musical choice. Anything with a 'Peace and Love' orientation, had a fighting chance of being aired. For me [...]

Random Mode Two

Random Mode Two This week I have been mostly listening to... Bring back The Fast Show I say, still in the meantime, I have been 'getting on down' and 'grooving my thing' to the following "beat combo's" whilst driving the cab around on the 'night cruise'. You can purchase here - Beehive Candy Store , or simply check them out by clicking on the following links. Be Bop Deluxe - Jet Silver. wma [...]

Coco Rosie

Coco Rosie One of my concerns with Beehive Candy is the fact that I tend to look back to the past. I do not want to be the 'oldest swinger in town' that's definite, and name droppers bore the pants off me. However if I look at the mp3's I have downloaded in the last six months, I reckon at least half or more are from artists that are at the very least still touring and producing music, and a healthy number are at least half my age. That's not a case for street credibility, rather [...]

Punk - Thirty Years On - The Sex Pistols

Punk - Thirty Years On - The Sex Pistols I thought about writing something along the lines of how punk was hijacked, how the record industry took advantage of it after the initial shock etc etc. However you know all that, plus an awful lot of the so called 'punk' bands were just months earlier wannabee prog rockers, or off of the 'chicken in a basket circuit' in the UK. With hindsight, some of the bands from CBGB's in New York, had more street credibility, and certainly more 'roar' energy. That said, the Pistols did unsettle the musical establishment, media, and for a [...]

Random Mode One

Random Mode One I grew up listening to a wide range of musical genres, influenced by my older brothers and sister, and also by the likes of Radio Caroline, and John Peel. I suppose that may account for the fact that these days, I am so bored with what I hear on local radio stations. It is always the same safe tunes, even when I channel hop, no wonder when I am in my cab, it's CD's or BBC Radio Four or Five Live. So here is random mode one, a taster of what I have listened to this [...]

Doing the Upload Blip...

Doing the Upload Blip... It would appear that some recent uploads to Mediafire have gone AWOL. So I will try & reload the missing Steely Dan stuff when time permits. Cannot moan to much, as free hosting, without strings attached for all concerned, is pretty much exclusive to them (unless you can point me in another direction). I have removed the offending links, you can still download a couple of tracks from the Rainbow gig. I have the full concert zipped up and ready to load, as soon as I know the problem is fixed.

Share - Communicate - Inform

Share - Communicate - Inform Put those razor's back in the cabinet, take that rope down, get away from the cliff edge, get off the railway platform, go home log on, it's not that bad ! OK, so you are having a bad run, your friends have turned out to be mates of Genghis Khan, and the bailiffs are on first name terms. You can still make a difference, why today you will make such a big change to someones life, a change for the better, that you will find yourself the centre of adulation, respect, love, and high regard.
