new beginning?
might start this blog up again what do you say?
Missy Elliot Feat. Jay-Z - Ching-A-Ling (Remix) {Z-SHARE} So apparently Timbo ain't gonna produce for Missy anymore, because he wants to shift his focus onto his label and is tired of Atlantic reaping the benefits. I guess that didn't stop Missy from dropping her signiture crazy first single on us, even with the recycled Jay verse it's hot. I don't know who produced, but to me it sounds like Swizzy..anyways, enjoy.
#1: Kanye West - Graduation No surprise here, come on we're talking about KANYE WEST, every time dude drops an album it's epic. Since 'Ye likes to compare himself to Michael Jackson, i'm gonna go on record to say that every album that 'Ye has dropped so far have been reminiscent of "Thriller", in the sense that there's so many fuckin' hits on ONE ALBUM!! When his greatest hits album drops, it'll probably be like a 10 disc set. Okay sorry, i kinda went off track, but i don't think i really feel the need [...]
#2: Common - Finding Forever What can I say, ever since Common & Kanye started working together, Common's been on top of his game and in my opinion his prime. "Be" was a hip-hop MASTERPIECE and i honestly didn't think that he'd be able to follow up with anything of the same caliber, but i was wrong. This album shows Common's growth, both as a man and as an emcee and Kanye's production provides him with a vivid landscape to showcase his vision. On his previous album, "Be", the production style was soulful and Kanye's [...]
#2: Wouter Hamel - Hamel I know I'm going off on a tangent with this album but it is amazing. I've always loved the old school crooners but they can get boring after a while because everyone just sings the same songs or "standards". Sure, they're great classics but I wanna hear something new! So here comes Wouter to save us. You won't find one standard on this album - all original. Every song is so good they have potential to be NEW standards. If I decided my top albums by the amount of plays [...]
#3: Example - What we Made Note: this was hard for me but I put Example ahead of Kanye last minute after further deliberation. You wouldn't think this, but Example is part of the rare breed of true hip hoppers. I mean, everything about him is hip hop - the "fuck-off attitude", slick word play, and witty story driven songs. I'm being completely serious here. Sure, he doesn't look the part, but when was the last time you've been engaged by the story in a song and wanted to [...]
#4: Kanye West - Graduation Wow, what an album. If you haven't heard this already there is something wrong with you. I consider this album to be Kanye's best out of the three. This album is considerably different from his first two because he didn't use any Motown samples this time around. Speaking of sampling, this time Kanye worked backwards - he found samples to complement the melodies instead of the other way a la "Late Registration" . Kanye's lyrical delivery is top notch this time around. Just check this line out from [...]
#3: Lupe Fiasco - The Cool Man, the top 3 albums on my list were extremely tough to sort..this album easily could have been number 1, but it turns out i liked the two other albums a BIT more. With that being said, this is easily one of my favourite albums of ALL TIME, and will definitely have it's own place in hip-hop history. If you were to compare it to his debut album "Food and Liquor", the main similarities are the outstanding quality of both albums and probably the guest spots. This album's [...]
#4: Mr.Hudson and The Library - A Tale of Two Cities If there was a "Most Slept on Albums of '07" list, this would definitely be numero uno. For the 95% of people out there who don't know who Mr.Hudson and The Library are, the most accurate description i can give you is Sting (The Police) meets Coldplay with a dash of Hip-Hop on the production tip. Yes, that's an incredible combination, and their debut album "A Tale of Two Cities", is no different. This is one of those albums where you can listen to [...]
#5: Kano - London Town Kane came back stronger than ever this year. "London Town" proved his staying power. This album fully pushes him outside of the grime circle stereotype which, in his case, is actually curse because he's much more than that. It's a shame he's still getting slept on in North America because he absolutely kills everything you see on BET these days. I can't say that this album is better than "Home Sweet Home" because I like either one more depending on the day. But I can say [...]
#6: Justice - Cross Oh Justice. Some people call them the new Daft Punk. I call them the new awesomeness. To be honest, I don't really know how to elaborate on this album. Basically, if you heard "D.A.N.C.E." (which you should have heard by now) then you will love this album. The highlight of the album is the guest spot for Uffie. I think the album could've used more vocal tracks but their instrumentals are way to tough to complain. My fave track: 07 - Valentine [Listen]
#5: Timbaland Presents Shock Value I think we can all agree that this year belonged to Timbo, hands down. Everybody and their momma had a Timbo beat this year and if they didn't, they did their best to emulate it. With "Shock Value", Timbo decided to experiment and collaborated with a wide array of artists from Dre to Elton John. As you would expect the production is astounding and proves that Timbo is still one of the best producers in any genre, and on this album he showcases his many styles, from his eurodance party [...]
