I don't know what to say!!! It's been a really good weekend for gigs. I travelled down to Birmingham on Friday to witness the mighty Arcade Fire . The hype around these guys is incredible at the moment. They might not be household names, - and let's face it, they're never really going to be with their classical arrangments - but since they signed to Rough Trade they've been getting a lot of positive press in all the UK music magazines. Anyway, they were tremendous on Friday night. The album hasn't stayed long stayed out of stereo since I [...]
Gypsy -------> guitars, vocals Antokio -----> bass, programming Valentina ---> drums Or the line up currently consists of 2 cocks, 2 tits, 10 strings and 2 sticks - their words, not mine. Upon first listening to Querelle you're instantly reminded of bands like Blonde Redhead , Sonic Youth , The Lapse and bands of the same stature. Later on, you learn that really don't just sound like any of those bands, but that they continue in their tradition. Buzzing guitars, alt-noise, [...]
Wooooohoooooooo! It's Friday! The Anemics, The Appliances, The Case Histories, The Confused Tourists, The Deadly Nightshades, The Furious Clones, The Gel Heads, The Kitchenettes (all girl band?), The Near Misses (all girl band?), Oui Ouis From Paris, The Turbojets, The Vistas, Xenolith...Recognise any of those bands? Well actually, no you don't. They never existed. They were only prospective names of a band that you may or may not know as Martha & The Muffins . Although they offically formed in 1975 as neighbourhood friends, things didn't really start happening for the band until they moved to Toronto. In 1977 [...]
"Our mission is to breakdown the paradigm of corporate sponsored filth and the heterodoxy of a misogynistic patriarchy imbedded into co-modified youth culture Oh yeah, and to bend over some bitches." DJ Tanner I've been really been vibing off Sissorkick this week, and in particular the review for a band called The Changes (the track was called "The Machine"). I'm definately looking foward to their full length release. They sound like an neu wave indie [...]

Well, I bought a ticket to see Death From Above 1979 in February today. I mean, £6 isn't to be turned down, is it? Especially when Controller. Controller are going to to be joining them. Yes, that is correct, Controller. Controller WILL be playing with DFA79... 2005 is already looking good, and the Canadians are are coming to show us how it should be done. Then again, the last time I went to a show in Nottingham at the Rescue Rooms there were more people interested in The Zutons than Hot Snakes. Still, there was a nice [...]
Right then, Manitoba . Dan Snaith might not be allowed to produce any more albums like "Up in Flames" under the Manitoba moniker, but they're always going to be good old Manitoba to me. I'm probably not breaking any new ground in discussing how great this album is, but after looking through the linear notes in the CD case the other day I came across the receipt, and yes, I've been playing this album constantly for over a year now. I wouldn't really call what I'm writing now a review, it's more like a homage, because "Up in [...]
